文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章从卫生、饮食、工作等方面介绍了宇航员在太空中如何工作生活的。

Astronauts eat three meals a day: breakfast, lunch and dinner. Some food can be eaten in the natural form such as fruit. Other foods require adding water such as noodles. There are no fridges in space, so space food must be stored and prepared properly to avoid going bad.

Besides morning routine and eating in space, astronauts perform many tasks including checking the machines, updating computer equipment, etc. At the same time, the control center on Earth sends messages to the astronauts through voice or email with new instructions to assist them in their daily routines.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了“平静技术”的特点和应用,在未来平静技术将渗透到生活的各个方面,会无形中提升生活质量。

2 . It seems like technology is everywhere.Computers and smart phones are at the center of almost everything we do. They constantly require our attention. We text our friends with them during the day, sleep with them by our beds and check our messages as soon as we wake up.

In the future, technology will no longer be interrupting us all the time. Instead, we will use calm technology which was first developed by scientist Mark Weiser in the 1970s. In his opinion, calm technology works quietly but constantly. We know it is there, but we don’t pay much attention to it. According to Mark, the best technology should be invisible (隐形的) and let you live your life.

We already use many different types of calm technology in our everyday lives. Do you have a smoke alarm in your house? That smoke alarm is always there, checking the air for smoke and quietly keeping you safe. It only reminds you it’s there when you’ve burnt your bread! Or there may be lights in your home or school. When somebody passes in front of their sensors, the lights turn on. You don’t think about this type of technology until you see the light go on.

In the future, we can imagine our houses will use calm technology to open the curtains for us in the morning, to turn down the heat when we leave, or even to choose the best music for our mood. The minute we walk through the door, our house will respond by turning on the lights and music, and perhaps even starting to prepare our dinner!

1. Which of the following is an example of calm technology?
A.A computer.B.A smart phone.C.A radio.D.A smoke alarm.
2. What does the underlined word “interrupting” mean?
A.Troubling.B.Protecting.C.Helping.D.Hurting.
3. What’s the main idea of the third paragraph?
A.Calm technology keeps us safe in many ways.
B.Calm technology can help you to do housework.
C.Calm technology has been used in our daily lives.
D.Calm technology plays an important part in schools.
4. What can we infer from the passage?
A.The light won’t go on unless we touch the sensor.
B.Calm technology will make our life more convenient.
C.People will depend more on smart phones in the future.
D.People won’t have to work because of calm technology.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了阿尔卑斯山和亚洲的冰川面临严重威胁,可能在本世纪末融化,文中分析了其原因,同时也提出了解决问题的思路。

5 . Two thirds of the ice in the glaciers (冰川) of the Alps is doomed! These glaciers will melt by the end of the century as global temperatures rise, according to a recent study.

Scientists claim that half the ice held in some 4,000 Alpine glaciers will disappear by 2050 due to global warming through the effect of past emissions. After that, even if carbon emissions drop to zero, two-thirds of the ice will still have melted by 2100. If emissions continue to rise at the current rate, the ice tongues will have all but disappeared from Alpine valleys by the end of the century. The most pessimistic prediction tells us that the Alps will be mostly ice-free by 2100. Only isolated ice patches would remain at high altitudes, representing five per cent, at most, of the ice volume seen today.

The researchers warn that the loss of these glaciers will mean much less water is available for farming and hydroelectricity, especially during droughts. It would also affect nature and tourism.

In February, a study found that a third of the huge ice fields in Asia’s towering mountain chains were also under threat for the same reasons. This will lead to serious consequences for almost two billion people who live downstream. Glaciers along the Hindu Kush and Himalayan range are at higher, colder altitudes. If global carbon emissions are not cut, however, two-thirds of their ice could be gone by 2100.

The latest research combined computer models with real-world data to forecast the fate of the glaciers. It used 2017 as its starting point. Unlike previous work, these models included how the glaciers move down the mountains. Applying this approach to other glaciated mountain chains could improve ice loss forecasts there.

Cutting the emissions from fossil-fuel burning, deforestation and other polluting activities is the biggest factor in minimizing the melting of the ice. The future of these glaciers is indeed at risk, but there is still a possibility of limiting their disappearance.

1. What does the underlined word “doomed” mean in paragraph 1?
A.Polluted.B.Discovered.C.Endangered.D.Abandoned.
2. What can we infer from paragraph 2?
A.Emissions have much to do with the ice melting.
B.The Alps is expected to lose all its ice by 2100.
C.Ice loss will be avoided with emissions prevented.
D.Large ice pieces will just exist at the mountain top.
3. Why are the Asia’s ice fields mentioned in paragraph 4?
A.To explain how glacier melting came about.
B.To imply pollution is a worldwide problem.
C.To show what consequences ice melting will cause.
D.To indicate the Alps is not alone to face ice melting.
4. What is the writer’s attitude towards the future of glaciers?
A.Objective.B.Optimistic.C.Critical.D.Doubtful.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章讲述了在美国日常生活中,人们为了方便经常使用省略说法,并详细列举了诸多例子加以说明。

6 . Americans often try to say things as quickly as possible. So, for some expressions, we use the first letters of the words instead of saving each word. Many common expressions or long names are shortened this way.

B-Y-O-B is a short way of saying, “Bring Your Own Bottle.” The letters BYOB are often found at the bottom of a written invitation to a simple social, event or gathering of friends. For example, let’s say I had a New Year’s Eve party. I might include on the invitation. “Please come to my party and BYOB.” The bottle each person brings is what the person wants to drink at the party or wants to share.

However, an invitation to a special event -such as a wedding-would never say BYOB. An invitation to an official or very special event often has other letters written at the bottom. The letters are R-S-V-P. These letters represent the French expression “Repondez S'il Vous Plait.” In English the words mean “Respond If It Pleases You.” Americans use the letters as a short way to say, “Please answer this invitation.”

Another expression usually used for business and not parties is A-S-A-P. So, a colleague might say she needs something done ASAP. It means as soon as possible. She might also need something done by C-O-B. That means she wants to finish it by “Close Of Business” or the end of the work day.

Beginning letters are often used to represent the names of universities. A famous one is MIT. That is short for the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Another major university is UCLA. Almost no one ever says its real name, the University of California at Los Angeles. That takes way too long!

1. Why do Americans like using the first letters of the words?
A.They want to save time.B.They think it interesting.
C.They like doing things differently.D.They love creating new expressions.
2. Which of the following may a couple use in their wedding invitations?
A.B-Y-O-B.B.B. R-S-V-P.C.A-S-A-P.D.C-O-B.
3. How is the text mainly developed?
A.By analyzing causes.B.By listing examples.
C.By following time order.D.By making comparisons.
4. What is the main purpose of this text?
A.To describe the unpopularity of the formal language.
B.To explain the usage of some daily expressions.
C.To advise people to speak more simple English.
D.To introduce one of the Americans’ language habits.

As a single mother, I’ve never doubted my daughter Jane’s dream to be a singer on the stage. At an early age, she was crazy about singing. Whenever she had a chance, she would sing to her heart’s content. Her sweet and charming voice tended to get people around attracted to her songs.

Living in a small city, I took several odd jobs, determined to do everything in my power to support her. Soon after Jane attended school, her music teacher Mary noticed her talent by chance and volunteered to give her some guidance on how to sing. Jane practiced so hard that before long she made great progress in singing.

Unfortunately, one noon a year later, Jane was crossing the street when a careless driver knocked her down. She was rushed to hospital. When I hurried there, the doctor told me that my daughter would probably not stand on her own feet. I froze with shock, feeling as if I had been thrown into a dark world. Weak and dizzy, I was about to fall to the ground when someone took hold of me.

It was Mary, who got the news and raced here. She comforted me, saying firmly, “Grace, Jane needs you. You must stay calm and strong.” I nodded. Having calmed down, I entered the ward with Mary.

That night, Jane recovered her consciousness (知觉) and opened her eyes. Holding her hand, I said, “My dear, everything would be fine.” Mary comforted her gently, “I know you are a strong girl, Jane. Don’t worry. We’ll be standing by you.” I was heartbroken to see tears streaming down Jane’s cheeks.

After two months, we returned home from hospital. Her teachers and friends frequently visited her. Jane eventually accepted the fact that she would have to get around in a wheelchair. Never did she refer to the subject of singing again. I knew she was a nice and understanding girl, who was afraid that talking about her original dream would upset the two of us.

文章大意:本文是一篇议论文。文章主要介绍了对财富的正确认识,有钱不一定富有,当志愿者与别人分享时间、金钱、精力时,他们才是真正富有的人。

8 . As a financial adviser, my clients come to me seeking help with growing their wealth. Perhaps the greatest lesson I share is that being rich isn’t a dollar amount; it is a perception that includes happiness, peace of mind, comfort and security. There’s a big difference between being wealthy and feeling wealthy.

Actually, one of the best ways I advise others in building their wealth is this: The secret to having more is giving more. Studies have shown that people who volunteer weekly exhibit an increase in happiness. Donating your time makes you grateful for all that you have, and you’ll have the unmatched joy and excitement of knowing you made a huge impact for the good of others.

Volunteering enables you to increase your relationship skills and encourages you to have conversations with people from very different walks of life. You can even make new friends. It is also a wonderful activity that families can do together. This has the added benefit of serving as a good role model to your children. I am encouraging my kids to volunteer and experience the power of love for themselves.

Without fail, every time I volunteer, I have conversations that change my life in some way. I was once volunteering at a local shelter and struck up a conversation with other volunteers. As we chatted, we all suddenly realized: The massive gratitude of those receiving help acted like a nuclear bomb going off in our hearts, and it also touched the other volunteers, making us all realize how truly blessed we are.

Giving our time, money and energy gives us a sense of achievement like nothing else. If “wealth” really is a perception of happiness, comfort and security, we must learn to get outside our own experience and understand what wealth means to other people.

1. What is the author’s understanding of wealth?
A.It is more of a state of mind.
B.It gives one the duty to help others.
C.It has something to do with finance.
D.It lifts people’s spirits like nothing else.
2. What makes a person appreciate what he has already owned?
A.Winning people’s recognition.
B.Spending time helping others.
C.Making a deep impression on others.
D.Improving one’s interpersonal skills.
3. What is paragraph 3 mainly about?
A.Benefits of volunteering.B.Parents’ roles in a family.
C.Importance of social skills.D.Ways of being a volunteer.
4. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.A Road to Real Wealth in LifeB.A Lesson in Wealth Management
C.A Different Way to Pursue HappinessD.A Life-changing Volunteering Experience

It was the most beautiful motorbike and the first of its kind in the neighborhood, a magic blue one with two smart rear-view mirrors. It belonged to Ranjan’s uncle. Overnight, Ranjan had become a prince among us boys.

We surrounded him the next day, wanting to learn more details. Ranjan’s uncle had come from Bombay, riding the new motorbike. Every afternoon when he slept, we would gather around the blue bike, admiring it. Sometimes Ranjan managed to take out his uncle's red helmet (头盔). We would wear it in turn and sit on the bike, imagining starting it and being off. In the evenings, we watched Ranjan go out for a ride with his uncle and our eyes were filled with envy (羡慕).

One Monday morning I was struggling with the homework when Ranjan whispered in my ear, “I am learning to ride it, Tony.” “What?” I doubted. “I will show you this afternoon. ”Ranjan sounded confident.

Ranjan, like the rest of us, knew everything about the motorbike, every part of it. But to ride it was another story. Like all grown-ups, his uncle had this belief that fourteen-year-olds could not ride things like motorbikes. It is unfair really.

The big moment came at last. After lunch, I came to meet Ranjan, who appeared at the gate seconds later, wearing the red helmet. Noiselessly, he wheeled the bike out of the gate. He looked around carefully, pushed it down the road, and started it. “Get on, boy!”I felt excited as I climbed onto the back seat, but still could not believe that he could ride it. “Ready?”Ranjan shouted. “Yeah. What are you waiting for?”

We were off. The road was nearly empty and we were moving smoothly. I had a look at the speedometer (速度计): 30 kmph. How cool it was!

文章大意:本文为说明文。一项研究发现,对别人友善让人更健康,更快乐。

10 . We all know that it’s good to be kind to others. But what does that mean for us? What acts of kindness will make us happiest and who will benefit the most? A new review of kindness research provides some answers.

Researchers analyzed the results from 126 research articles looking at almost 200, 000 participants from around the world. The studies they chose all had to meet certain criteria, such as including only adults and reporting good statistical data. Some were experiments while others just surveyed people about how kind and happy they were. The studies measured well-being in many ways, including both mental and physical health.

As expected, people who were kind tended to have higher well-being. Although the relationship was not, stronger than it was, lead researcher Bryant Hui was still encouraged by the result. “Although the relationship is weaker, the effect still has a significant impact,” he says.

He and his colleagues considered when kindness might have a bigger impact on our well-being. One thing they found was that people who performed random, informal acts of kindness tended to be happier than people who performed more formal acts of kindness. It’s possible that informal helping may fill our more basic psychological needs for close relationships, which is why it could lead to greater happiness.

The researchers also found that people who were kind tended to have a higher sense of meaning and purpose in life. Perhaps this makes sense, given that being kind involves effort which makes people feel confident about themselves and their abilities. And that provides a sense of meaning.

1. What is the text mainly about?
A.Act of kindness makes us happiest.B.Being kind makes us healthy and happy.
C.Random acts of kindness are better than formal ones.D.Doing act of kindness to others improves our abilities.
2. How did the researchers get the finding?
A.By doing surveys.B.By carrying out experiments.
C.By comparing research data.D.By analyzing results of articles.
3. Why does being kind give people a sense of meaning and purpose in life?
A.Because it makes people healthier.B.Because it boosts close relationships.
C.Because it improves people’s confidence.D.Because it promotes awareness of responsibility.
4. Where is the text most likely from?
A.A diary.B.A guide book.C.A novel.D.A magazine.
