2 . E-Bike Safety Tips
Before you go on your next two-wheeled adventure, make sure you’re familiar with the ins and outs of safety.
Wear a helmet (头盔). Ride with the flow of traffic rather than against it. Make sure you’re visible to drivers. Know how to use your arm to signal turns and pay attention to the automobile horn (汽车喇叭).
That starts with checking that the tires are inflated and the brakes are working properly. If the e-bike hasn’t been used for a while, examine it before you take it for a ride.
This is especially important for e-bike riders as they have the ability to go faster, but they must be mindful of when to slow down for their own safety as well as others on the road.
●Know the rules of the roadWhen you’re riding in the street, even in a protected bike lane (车道), read the signals, pay attention to the lane markings, and check the signs to see where e-bikes are allowed.
A.Be aware of your speed |
B.Pay attention to the use time |
C.Don’t talk on the phone or listen to music |
D.You can enjoy the convenience it brings to you |
E.The cities have a classification system for e-bikes. |
F.You should also make sure your battery is fully charged |
G.And if you’re an e-bike rider, here are some top tips for you |
3 . Children seem to care so much about their names. A study shows that most young people wish their parents had given them a different name.
Some people choose to change their names when they grow up. Many people in show business don’t use the names their parents gave them. Have you ever listened to Joanne? No? The answer could be “yes” if we call her stage name instead! You may never heard of Margaret. But if we tell you her stage name, you might know her as a famous dancer.
In many cultures, there are special ideas about how to choose a name. For example, many people choose a name that has been in their family for many years. It tells the child where he or she comes from.
Choosing a good name isn’t easy. Many parents search books that tell them the meanings of names. They could choose a name that carries a message. For example, Edith means “valuable gift”. Amanda means “love”. And Fara means “joy”.
Names like these tell family and friends how happy they are with their new baby. Other names can say something about the events during the birth of the child. In Africa, a first born son may have the name Mosi and the name Ama means “born on Saturday”.
Is every boy called Curtis polite? And is every girl called Mahira quick and full of energy? No parents can tell what kind of person their child will grow up to be. Just because parents name a boy Fahim, it doesn’t mean he will be clever. All they can do is hope.

After hitting the button of an alarm clock a couple of times, Sarah rushed to get dressed. She had a big presentation at work, and she needed the caffeine more than ever. She grabbed (抓住) her keys, rushed out of the door, and made her way to the familiar coffee shop.
As she joined the line of cars in the drive-through (免下车的餐馆), Sarah couldn’t help but feel the familiar rush of anticipation. The smell of roasted coffee beans and the thought of having a cup of coffee was her little daily enjoyment.
The line of cars went forward slowly, and soon, Sarah found herself at the drive-through window. She reached for her purse to pay, but before she could hand over her credit card, the cashier smiled and said, “Your coffee has been covered by the car ahead of you.” “Really?” she asked, both surprised and grateful. The cashier nodded. “Yes, the woman in the car ahead wanted to pay it forward today. Enjoy your coffee!”
With a warm smile, Sarah accepted the free coffee and drove away. The unexpected act of kindness was in her mind as she drank the delicious coffee. It put a spring in her step and a smile on her face, making her presentation a little less worrying.
As she exited the drive-through, Sarah glanced in her rearview (后视的) mirror at the next car approaching the coffee shop window. An idea began to form in her mind. Maybe she could do the same, pay it forward and brighten someone else’s morning. She decided to stick around, park her car and go back into the coffee shop. She approached the cashier and said, “I’d like to pay for the coffee of the person in the car behind me.” The cashier smiled and nodded, processing the payment. Sarah knew she had just started a chain of kindness, and she felt a warm sense of satisfaction.

8 . Once upon a time, there was a poor man and a rich man. The poor man’s son was named Ham, and the rich man’s son was named Jim. They had been in the same school together since childhood and became good friends.
One day, the two youths began a discussion as to whether wealth or effort was more powerful. Jim said that wealth was most important, while Ham declared for effort. At last, Ham declared, “Let us put it to the test: Let us both go to some far country and try whether wealth or effort is more successful.” Jim agreed to this plan and they fixed a day for starting.
Then they both went home and collected some money and started off early one morning. After a time, they came to a certain country where Ham suggested that they should look for employment. But Jim did not like the notion of becoming a servant and he said that he would live on the money which he had brought with him, which would last for a year or two. “You may do as you like,” answered Ham, “but for my part, I must look for work.” So he went to a village and found employment as a teacher in a school while his friend rented a house and started making various friends, eating and having fun all day.
One year later, Ham earned enough money, built a beautiful house and also got married. However, Jim had already spent all his money, and his friends who indulged in wine and meat also left him. Hungry and sorrowful, he went to Ham and said, “My dear friend, regarding the question of ‘whether wealth or effort is more important’, I think I’ve already had the answer.”

The skies were clear, not a cloud in sight. Although the calmness of the atmosphere should seem to ease my state of mind, my fear of heights overpowered any positive thoughts about the coming dive. Although I was terrified, I grew the courage to take a glance and was shocked by the breathtaking view that my eyes laid upon. The tops of the cloud gave forth a gold lining around them. “Oh, how beautiful!” I said to myself.
It was time to start preparing for my first dive. We rode into town and purchased some equipment such as a vest, a regulator and a tank. Everything seemed to be in good condition to dive with. All of my equipment was ready to see the waters.
We then ventured across the island to the spot where we were to begin our dive. Getting out of the car, I noticed that the air was quiet and misty. The wind was curiously strong and carried a cold chill(寒意)with it. “This is where we will get in,” the diving instructor said.
I was told that, in order to access the water, I had to jump. Now, this was not a simple “jump”. “There is little chance that I can do that. Do you even realize how high up we are?” I said to my mother. “Yes, you can! Just trust yourself. Just think of it as your chance to feel like you are flying,” my mother encouraged me.
My mother just could not seem to understand how fearful I was. My heart was beating violently. I was almost certain that the fish could even hear my heartbeat. Terrified and shaking uncontrollably, I could not make myself jump. The sound of the waves made me terrified. The waves were rhythmically pounding into the side of the bank, so violently that the water reached the same height that I stood.
