3 . At the beginning of my Senior Two, I received my letter from the New York University (NYU) exchange program, and I was very relieved (如释重负的). I finally had the chance to take high level courses, experience college student life, and gain some extra credit. My aim was to learn the basics of accounting, economics, marketing, and psychology.

When I arrived, I found that there were only 30 students in the program. I was so excited, but also nervous. I was worried that I would not make friends in my new environment. However, I turned out to be totally wrong. NYU hosts free events every week, giving students the chance to meet new people and explore New York City. My favorite events were the Broadway show trips. But there were always a limited number of spots. Therefore, I had to sign up online as soon as I received the reminder and hope that I would be chosen to go.

This summer, I have watched ten Broadway shows, including To Kill a Mockingbird, Aladdin, and Frozen. Actually, I was fully attracted by the shows. Watching a performance almost every week was so amazing. On the way to the different shows, I always met someone new and we’d often chat about our lives. I was so thankful for making so many new friends.

By the time the shows were finished, it was usually late at night. However, I wasn’t scared as Times Square was always so busy, filled with people and lights. This summer was the best ever and I certainly caught a glimpse (一瞥) into college life at NYU. Surprisingly, it is not as scary as I thought.

All mammals(哺乳动物) need sleep. But the amount of sleep they need is different. Children need    1    (many) sleep than grown-ups. A new born baby sleeps 17 to 18 hours a day. Grown-ups need between 6 and 9 hours of sleep a night.

Though    2    (science) do not know for sure why you sleep, they do have some ideas. Safety could be    3    most important reason for sleep. People and other animals might sleep because it keeps them safe at night. Things go wrong if you do not get enough sleep.

4    is hard to think and work unless you get plenty    5    sleep.

In the past twenty years, people    6    (learn) a lot about what happens when you lie down to sleep. Sometimes your eyeballs move back and forth very fast. 5 . Four homes built using everyday objects

Can newspapers and bottles be used as building materials? After touring these four homes built using these objects, you might just believe the answer is yes.

Plastic Bottle Village, Bocas del Toro

One man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Truer words could not describe Robert Bezeau’s project which began in 2012. After collecting tens of thousands of bottles, Bezeau recruited a team of locals to construct a building using the unwanted materials.

The Bottle Houses, Cape Egmon, Prince Edward Island

The Bottle Houses on Prince Edward Island, Canada, are the creation of Edouard T. Arsenault and his daughter Rejeanne. The father and daughter began construction in 1980. Over the months, they collected empty bottles, and by 1981 they opened the house to the public. Since then, the building has remained open to visitors, with sunny days being the best time to visit.

Earthship Biotecture, Taos, New Mexico

Michael Reynolds built his first Earthship when he was 23 years old. Starting out with nothing more than empty bottles, Reynolds set out to create a home that was not only sustainable, but also easy enough for someone without a construction background to build. Earthship Biotecture offers nightly stays. Self-guided tours are also available.

The Paper House, Rockport, Massachusetts

When Elis F. Stenman built his summer home in 1922, he turned to paper for materials. The design has proven to be quite durable, as it’s still standing nearly 100 years later. The home has been open to visitors since the 1930s, and only began charging 10 cents per person in 1942 when it became a museum. Today visitors can experience the Paper House for themselves for $2 for adults and $1 for children.
