Aiming to provide an opportunity with students to enrich their knowledge about Western culture, yesterday the English club organizes a visit to the art exhibition of David Hockney in the City Art Gallery. He is one of the most influential British artists. I was fortunately to participate. Together with other club members, I admired some masterpieces by David and watched a video about her. My favorite part was watching the digital versions of the paintings, which enabled me observe those great work from different angles and have a new insight into them. Although that this exhibition displayed was limited, but I think the visit meaningful and beneficial. After all, learn English is not only about the language itself, but also a culture it comes from.

I have a pleasant day last month. In the morning, I got up late and then began to do my homework. It took me two hour to finish it. Next, I had a fun playing computer games. My favourite novel is The Little Prince. It is an easy book to read and its lessons are difficult to understand. The book shows that everyone can be a adult, but few people are actually grown-up. In the story, the little prince believes he is the most uniquely person in the universe, so he travels to different planets prove it. The truth disappoints him but allow him to realize who he really is. The Little Prince teaches us the solution to become a grown-up is to put ourselves outside us comfort zone. Then we will realize we were rarely the people who we think of we are. The Little Prince tells us it is our hearts and faith which help us see the world clearly.

One evening after supper, Mom or I went to our little vegetable garden, only to find quite a few cucumbers were destroyed. Dried leaf were left on the ground, making us to feel sad. Observing careful, we found some animal footprints here. We guessed that it must be a pet dog that had made the mess.
Several days later, to our great excite, the damaged vegetables begin to grow again. Some even had little cucumbers, which goes as the saying “Misfortune may be an actual good thing!”. This taught him a good lesson—we should treat a bad thing in positive way instead of turn angry.

Nowadays, more and more people have taken part in voluntary work, that is a sign of social progress. There are many different kinds of voluntary activity students can participate. For instance, they can work as volunteers in a library or a bookstore if they were fond of reading or they can go to the nursing home to help the elderly. As the saying goes, the fragrance always stay in the hand that gives the rose. Being volunteers is of great benefit to students, give them a sense of an achievement when they are helping others.
