The day before yesterday, I went to pay a visit to my former neighbor. Stan. He and I would live next each other fora few years. About several months ago, word came which the old building, as well as many other similar one, was going to be pulled up to make room for a main street. So we had to separate. Stan’s home now is in the north of the city near the beautiful lake. His house is much big than before. The only problem trouble him is that it takes quite a long time to get to the downtown area. I enjoy learn English and can remember words easily. However, when it come to reading comprehension, it’s really a challenge. In order improve my reading I tried to read a storybook written in English on last Sunday. At first, I refer to the dictionary every time I came across a new word, which I found not very helpful. I often felt puzzling about what I had read. Then I tried to finish a chapter completely without looking up the new words. How surprised me was that I could understand the story well. I’m satisfied that now I have a good way to learn English than before. I hope I will make great progresses in English in a way.

I am writing to share with you one of my favorite Chinese folk dance, the peacock dance (孔雀舞) of the Dai people, who are known as their dancing skills. It is said that about a thousand years ago, when the Dai minority learned to dance through copying the elegant gestures of the peacock, which is a symbol of happiness. The dance movements are usually performed in fixed order. The dance first start with a peacock flying out from its nest. But next it wanders around the wild, cautiously search for food. Then the peacock goes to the river bank to bath in the water and comb their feathers. In the end, the peacock spreads out the wings and flies joyful into the sky. To show a lively peacock, dancers must use a range of hand movements and eye expressions. Their knees must be flexible, too.

I came across a article about a doctor called Lin Qiaozhi by chance. One of her books explains how to cut the death rate from having and caring for babies caught my eye. Then I do some research by raising some question about her. Further reading made me to realize it was hard work and determined as well as her gentle nature that got her into medical school. That made her succeed was her kindness and consideration. He often went lately at night to deliver a baby for a poor family. I was excited and wanted to carry her career.

Some students copy others’ homework. In one hand, it is true that sometimes we have many problem with our homework. On the other hand, some students copy others’ homework because they are not interesting in their lessons.

Why are people so interesting in dreams? Many cultures have stories of dreams that predict the future or changed history. Can we really learn something by studying dreams? When I were a kid, I liked collecting old postcards. I loved reading the messages the senders have written on the cards. Nowadays I am addicted to collect newspaper articles. I skim the week newspaper and cut out articles that I think are interested and of high quality. Then I stick it in a folder. I’ve got a whole of shelf full of them. How do I do this? I want to be a journalist when I grow. And I think the best way to realize my dream is to read other journalists’ writing and learn from them.

Last month our school held a Reading Week, which aim was to encourage the students to read wide. During the week, book lovers recommended a plenty of good books which were suitable to high school students. In addition, two famous writers are invited to give lectures on how to understand and appreciate great work of literature. The poetry recitation contest was another amazed activity for the students to bring his talent into full play. All the contestants took turns read their favorite poems to the audience. We all find the Reading Week very beneficial. It has not only enriched our school life, and helped us form the habit of reading.
