John Snow was a well-known doctor in London. Cholera was the most deadly diseases of its day. Neither its cause nor its cure were understood. So many thousands of terrified people died every time when there was an outbreak.
At that time, there were theories explained how cholera killed people. John Snow suspected the second one. As the disease spreaded quickly through the poor neighborhoods, he began to gather the information. He marked on a map the exact places all the dead people had lived. The map gave a valuable clue about the cause of the disease—the water from Broad Street pump seemed to be to blame. However, he found the water came from the polluted river.
With other two cases, John Snow announced for certainty that the polluted water carried the disease and suggested that the source of all water supplies was examined. Finally “King cholera” was defeated.

Boys and girls, with the college entrance examination drawing near, some of us begin to feel more or less stressful. They say it takes a little long to fall asleep than usual, which has greatly affected their daily performances. Additionally, not being able to focus on the teachers’ lectures make them fall behind. As result, they feel even more nervous than before and don’t know how to do. In order not to make their parents concerned, they choose to bury their problems. As a senior student, I think it’s very much normal to feel the great pressure when we are exposed with such a tense exam-preparing atmosphere. So keep optimistic and don’t lose hearts. If dealing with properly, the pressure can motivate us to go further and further on the way to their dreams.
