Great changes have been taken place over the past five years in my hometown, that is a famous historic city. The streets used to be narrow, filling with small shops. Rubbish can be seen everywhere. Nowadays the streets are wider and clean with trees and flowers planted along the sidewalks. Besides, four new parks have been opened for the public and a number of high buildings has arisen in the city. However, some of the historic building have been torn down to make room for high buildings. Our city is now modern and clean and it doesn’t have its own special characteristics. In my opinion, we should try to protect all the historic buildings in process of urban development.

Because my father was in poor health,my family moved from a small village to a city. It was my seventeen birthday. I felt lonely as I listened the strange city noises. Nowadays, it is more and more competitive to get into Qinghua University and Beijing University. Firstly, they have better condition and qualified teachers. I believe anyone can make themselves something good to eat. Cooking is a lot of easier for us than most of us think. Last Sunday my parent were away on business. I left alone, with no one to cook for me, as I had a good chance to cook myself a wonderful meal. Early in the morning I went to the market, buying some beefsteak and tomatoes and then came back. Before cooking, I put a few oil, salt and sugar on the steak and mixed it together. When the pot was hotter enough, I began to fry the steak. Then I cooked some tomato soup with the egg in it. A lecture on "How to Learn English" was held in a school auditorium on the afternoon of last Friday in our school. The lecture giving by a professor from Peking University lasts from 2: 00 to 4: 00. He first stressed serious the importance of learning English in modern times. Then he shared their learning experience with us. Once, an old man got on a bus but all the seats were occupied. There were other passenger nearby. A rich lady next by the old man was holding her pet dog in her arms. Yesterday, I got a invitation letter from my friend Lucy, who asked myself to spend the weekend in her new home. I was really exciting to hear that, because of she is, my best friend. A group of exchange students visited our school in last week. To help them better understand our tea-drinking culture, I lead them to the tea room in our school and introduced the history of tea culture to them.
