3 . With the passing of Professor Yuan Longping, China and the world have lost one of the greatest agricultural scientists on our planet, and I have lost a great friend.

Having worked closely with them, I can say they shared several characteristics that make them truly __________ figures for the ages. Professor Yuan was incredibly modest, never seeking fame or __________, rather focused only on hard work and results that could help people out of __________.

Reflecting his achievements that were developed in rice, Professor Yuan always __________ a “down to earth” attitude. Mattison decided upon the best __________: to donate the dollars in their names for the ALS (肌萎缩性脊髓侧索硬化症) Therapy Development   Institute, which was established to seek a cure for the rare neurological disease. She asked the teens whether they__________the idea.

All students’ __________was to tape enough money over the next few days, which pushed the amount to $321.06. Many people were __________by Mattison’s students because the initial one dollar turned into a story of __________in the end.

5 . A few years ago, an expensive new car stopped on the Mississippi River Bridge. A(n) ________ man got out of the car. He wore very ________ clothes and looked very rich.
