3 . Pennsylvania is full of mysterious places! One of those is an old turnpike (收费高速公路) abandoned for decades. People in Pennsylvania view it as a museum. My dad loves________, and he learned it was open to the public. ________, when I was 14, we took a bike trip to ________ this road!

My dad chose a 16-mile________ of the road for us to ride. Part of it included an old tunnel called Sideling Hill which is over a mile long! To prepare, we checked our ________ and made   sure our lights had batteries. In the morning, we loaded our bikes into the car and set off.

4 . I do believe the saying “The rose’s in her hand, the flavor in mine.” Therefore, I am always in the ________of giving money to every beggar or homeless person I pass by. But my friends say it is not good to encourage them because such beggars or homeless people begging every day and all beggars have their ability to survive. It ________them that I never listen.

On a ________day, my friend and I were walking to the ________when I passed a beggar lady. I had seen her several times before and had always given her a few cents. That day, I gave her 2 euros. I was waiting for the bus and reading a book when I ________to see that lady standing in front of me. 8 . “Today I will give you a special test,” said the English teacher with a smile on his face.

9 . Choose what you want to do, and don’t stop until getting there. You can ____ beyond your wildest dreams.

My goal for myself last year was to ____ a half marathon (马拉松). I was inspired by the runners in the world, seeing them run a half then ____ a full marathon, seeing my parents-in-law’s excitement as they told me about their upcoming marathon. I knew I wanted to do a half.

I completed my first 10 km last April. Feeling happy, I ____ to take the next step and sign up for the Hampton’s Half in September. As the marathon drew near, I became more ____. I just didn’t think that I was ____ to be a runner. I had never been good at running. Why suddenly could I do it now? 13.1 miles was further than anything I ever dreamed of. 10 . Another two points! Crowded by defenders, Charlie, one hand lifting the ball high, _______ toward the basket…

At 10, he lost small areas of hair. It grew back, but then at 12, all of his hair _______. An aunt sent tea recipes, hoping one might cure him. Nothing helped.
