文章大意:本文是说明文。文章介绍了一些会带来不快乐的依赖并分析了原因。

1 . There are reasonable dependencies that are healthy for an individual’s development. However, other dependencies bring unhappiness.     1     In this article, we’re going to be talking about some of them.

Other people’s opinions

Depending on other people’s opinions means letting your behavior, likes and desires be determined by the approval of those that surround you.     2     As a result of this, you guide your life projects, dreams, and behavior according to what others may think.

Fashion

Few are able to tell apart their own tastes and style from the current fashion trends. Now, we’re not only talking about clothing or accessories here but about general preferences and even philosophies. That desire to hop on a train and be part of the majority sometimes leads to dependency. Some become truly concerned about not being “in style”.     3

Physical appearance

4     As a result, they end up believing that their worth as human beings is defined by the way they look. We can’t lie; beauty opens doors to some individuals. Also, it makes it easier for some to climb to the top. However, it doesn’t serve much beyond that initial chapter.

Money

When the individual begins associating their personal value with the amount of money they have, it becomes a problem. Relying on money sometimes means believing that happiness equals consumption.     5     To those who think this way, not having money is equivalent to losing everything, including themselves.

A.It is associated with a deep dependency.
B.Having money is vital to everyone’s life.
C.These don’t contribute to your well-being.
D.Therefore, their own sense of identity is lost.
E.Some people take this too seriously to the point of addiction.
F.Supposing that your value depends on your wealth is the key to unhappiness.
G.You don’t really focus on believing yourself but getting acceptance from others.

2 . How to Improve Your Sense of Self-worth

Self-worth is a key factor when it comes to your mental and physical health. Stress, depression and anger have all been shown to pave the way to illness and disease.     1     If so, you’re probably more content, confident and successful. You’re likely also healthier. If you find that your self-esteem (自尊) is weakening a little, there are plenty of ways to build it back up again.

Let yourself off the hook. As the saying goes, it is better to try something and fail than to not try anything. Focus on goals that are linked to activities you are interested in. Don’t care about whether or not you achieve your goal in full, just enjoying the process.     2

Keep your body healthy. Eat a balanced diet and stay physically active to keep your body in good shape. You will look better, feel better and have more energy for new activities.

3     Redefine the roles you play in the society and give yourself more sense of self-worth. Instead of “sales manager” or “mother”, start thinking of yourself as “community organizer”, “literacy volunteer”, “great cook”, “gifted gardener” and more.

Be aware of your advantages.     4     Are you fun to be around, thoughtful, generous? Keep adding to the list and pull it out whenever you need an improvement.

If you feel good about yourself, have a positive outlook and stay active and involved, you’re more likely to be happy and healthy.     5

A.Rebuild your identity.
B.Find out your original roles.
C.These emotions influence your self-worth.
D.You will enjoy a sense of purpose and pleasure from it.
E.Remind yourself of your best qualities and make a list of them.
F.But a healthy level of self-worth can deal with life’s challenges well.
G.Therefore, increasing your self-worth with these methods is necessary.

6 . Social media, when approached the right way, can be just as valuable for practicing a new language as TV shows, books or any other form of media.     1    .

Be a focused follower

The best way to get started in your language learning via social media adventure is by following a number of accounts in your target language. But it would be helpful to have a clear goal in mind first.     2    . Whether you’re interested in sports, travel or any other topics, there’s an account for that.

    3

Once you’ve chosen some accounts to follow, you should not stop there.     4    . This means reading posts, watching videos. You may set a target for yourself, like reading five posts every day. It’s important to make this a habit if you really want to use social media for language learning effectively.

7 . Most people fail to achieve their goals because somewhere along the line, they lose focus.     1     And eventually, they give up on their goals. Does this sound familiar to you? Don’t worry. Here are 3 simple techniques you can use to prevent yourself from losing focus on your goals.

2     All too often, many people make the mistake and believe that the more goals they have, the better. This is wrong. Once, researchers conducted an experiment about the choices of jams and the number of sales. They discovered that the more choices of jams they provided for shoppers, the fewer sales they got. The more options you have, the less likely you can focus better. Therefore, focus on just ONE.

The second technique you can use is this - commit to taking small steps. Success isn’t going to happen overnight. Success is the accumulation of many small steps.     3     It will only make you suffer. Instead, commit to doing a minimum number such as 30 push-ups every day, and then increase gradually.     4     it lowers the resistance, and you are more likely to take action.

The third method is to focus on progress, not results. This is one of the most important distinctions between someone successful and someone who is not. Successful people understand that progress is key, not results.     5     On the contrary, unsuccessful people focus only on getting the result. Whenever they don’t get the result they want, they feel bad, frustrated, and lose their motivation, which eventually makes them give up on their goals.

If you apply these methods, you too, can maintain your focus and reach your goals, slowly, but surely.

A.Dream big and set big goals to inspire you.
B.They get distracted and then they stop taking action.
C.Make sure you focus fully on just ONE goal at a time.
D.They just want to get the work done and push forward.
E.When you make an effort to develop your ability to focus,
F.When you focus on getting started and taking small steps,
G.You don’t have to commit to doing 100 push-ups every day.

9 . You’ve made the decision that you want to travel more this year. You’ve realized that experiences are more important than possessions (财产) and you’ve put together a plan to start saving for your next big trip.     1     Here are my top tips to help you choose your travel destinations.

Be open-minded.

Haven’t heard of a place?     2     Have no idea where a place is? But you’ve found cheap flights to that place…? Search it using the search engine, check whether it’s safe and if so, book that flight! Sometimes you’ll have the best adventures in places you can’t pronounce, Ljubljana, for example.

    3

You want to travel to a certain destination but flights are really expensive? Don’t let this put you off, unlock your creativity and find a solution. Using the example of Ljubljana again, it’s really expensive to fly direct but flights to Venice are cheap and then there’s a 2-hour shuttle (往返) bus from Venice Ljubljana. Problem solved.

Explore travel websites and blogs.

4     Visit travel websites and blogs that specialize in the destinations on your route. These websites often feature articles and lists of top attractions, along with detailed descriptions, impressive photos, and helpful tips from experienced travelers. Take the time to look through these websites and complete a list of the attractions that catch your interest.

Seek suggestions from locals.

Locals are often the best sources of information when it comes to discovering hidden destinations. Engage (接触) with locals through conversations, or social media groups related to your destination.     5

A.Be creative.
B.Can’t even pronounce a place?
C.Avoid the common misunderstandings.
D.Can’t find a way to write your journal?
E.But how are you going to decide where to actually go?
F.The Internet is a place full of valuable information when it comes to travel.
G.Ask for their recommendations that might not be widely known but are worth exploring.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍收养兔子的五个理由。

10 . The saying goes that a dog is man’s best friend, but this companionship isn’t unique to dogs. Even though rabbits are smaller and quieter than dogs, they are also intelligent, outgoing, active, and social and they make great pets. Here are five reasons for adopting (养) a rabbit.

Rabbits are budget-friendly.

Rabbit care is much less expensive than the budget (预算) required for taking care of a dog or cat.     1     And they also require less pet doctor checkups than larger animals.

It’s easy to fit a rabbit into the schedule.

Rabbits are awake in the early morning and early evening, and spend most daytime and nighttime sleeping.     2     The rabbit is ready for playtime in the morning before work and after getting home from work, and the owner doesn’t need to feel guilty (内疚的) about leaving the rabbit home during the daytime, because it spends those hours sleeping.     3     There’s no need to take it for daily walks, so it’s a great choice for a busy pet-lover.

Rabbits are clean, quiet, and contained.

Rabbits are clean animals that generally don’t make large messages. Rabbits don’t require as large living spaces as a dog or cat does, so they are apartment-friendly.     4     So they won’t bother the owner or the neighbors.

Rabbits are intelligent and lovely.

5     They are also friendly. Rabbits quickly come to recognize their owners. They will follow them around the house and show them all sorts of love. They love to be petted and are eager for attention although they don’t like being picked up.

A.Rabbits don’t make loud noises.
B.And a rabbit requires less care time.
C.They can always be a good part of the community.
D.It costs about $50 monthly to feed and care for a rabbit.
E.This works well for someone with a typical day job schedule.
F.Rabbits, like dogs, are smart enough to be trained to do all sorts of tricks.
G.People should make sure they are ready for the responsibility before adopting.
