1 . There are reasonable dependencies that are healthy for an individual’s development. However, other dependencies bring unhappiness.     1     In this article, we’re going to be talking about some of them.

Depending on other people’s opinions means letting your behavior, likes and desires be determined by the approval of those that surround you.     2     As a result of this, you guide your life projects, dreams, and behavior according to what others may think.

Few are able to tell apart their own tastes and style from the current fashion trends. Now, we’re not only talking about clothing or accessories here but about general preferences and even philosophies. That desire to hop on a train and be part of the majority sometimes leads to dependency. Some become truly concerned about not being “in style”.     3    

    4     As a result, they end up believing that their worth as human beings is defined by the way they look. We can’t lie; beauty opens doors to some individuals. Also, it makes it easier for some to climb to the top. However, it doesn’t serve much beyond that initial chapter.

When the individual begins associating their personal value with the amount of money they have, it becomes a problem. Relying on money sometimes means believing that happiness equals consumption.     5     To those who think this way, not having money is equivalent to losing everything, including themselves.

2 . How to Improve Your Sense of Self-worth

Self-worth is a key factor when it comes to your mental and physical health. Stress, depression and anger have all been shown to pave the way to illness and disease.     1     If so, you’re probably more content, confident and successful. You’re likely also healthier. If you find that your self-esteem (自尊) is weakening a little, there are plenty of ways to build it back up again.

Let yourself off the hook. As the saying goes, it is better to try something and fail than to not try anything. Focus on goals that are linked to activities you are interested in. Don’t care about whether or not you achieve your goal in full, just enjoying the process.     2    

Keep your body healthy. Eat a balanced diet and stay physically active to keep your body in good shape. You will look better, feel better and have more energy for new activities.

    3     Redefine the roles you play in the society and give yourself more sense of self-worth. Instead of “sales manager” or “mother”, start thinking of yourself as “community organizer”, “literacy volunteer”, “great cook”, “gifted gardener” and more.

Be aware of your advantages.     4     Are you fun to be around, thoughtful, generous? Keep adding to the list and pull it out whenever you need an improvement.

If you feel good about yourself, have a positive outlook and stay active and involved, you’re more likely to be happy and healthy.     5    

3 . It’s often said that there’s a need for better work guidance for us teenagers. According to a recent survey, 40 percent of the teenagers end up working in an unsatisfactory job because they don’t know what else to do.     1     It will allow us teenagers to make our own decisions and take action on our goals.

Try arranging some statements about our values of life in order of how important they are to us. For example, I prefer to follow instructions from others or I value dealing with stress at work.     2     Try to bear these values in mind when carrying out our career researches as they can impact what type of career we might want to pursue (追求).

    3     The survey found that 40% of the teenagers end up leaving their jobs because they don’t want to regret spending their careers working in the wrong industry. If we’re able to find a career that we have a real passion for, we’ll get more job satisfaction and will probably stick to it.

Think about what skills we already have while planning our careers.     4     For example, if we’re good at talking people round, then perhaps a career in sales or public relations would be good for us. Or if we work well in numbers, then perhaps we should look at a career in finance (金融) or management.

Having taken these elements into consideration, we’re likely to get a general idea of our future career field.     5     This will prepare ourselves for our future work.

4 . Making a to-do list is a powerful way to reduce your stress at work.     1     There are a few steps that will make your to-do list much more effective.

• Don’t randomly (随机地) date tasks.

Some people usually add a date to every task they write. They end up with a list of tasks that do not need to be done on the day. You will break the schedule.     2     Instead, only put a date on the task which you intend to do on that day.

• Keep your daily list to no more than ten tasks.

    3     They believe they are much busier than that and must have at least twenty tasks on their lists. In fact they are not going to get them done. They will get frustrated at the end of the day. So pick the ten most important tasks on your list.

• Group similar tasks together.

Call your customers, for example. If you have two or three such tasks on your daily list, put these together and do them at the same time.     4     Then do them one after another.

It puts you in complete control. It allows you to stay on top of your work and decide what needs to be done next and what can be postponed to a later time. It’s the best way of starting the week with a plan and a direction. It is a way to make sure you are doing the right things.

5 . People normally look for a bit of adventure in their lives. They hunt for something new, something unknown, and they learn new things about the world and themselves.     1    . Sailing in the Arabian Gulf, camping in the desert and traveling to Qatar — these could all be called adventures.

Most of the time, adventures can be rewarding, because they make you feel satisfied after doing them.     2    . For example, Ibn Battuta who lived 700 years ago had the courage to travel around the world, visiting new places and meeting new people. His journal, called the Rihla, can still be read today.     3    . There is another example, if you sail to an unknown part of the sea, you can tell people about what you discover in it like new islands or good fishing areas.

    4    . People have died when climbing dangerous mountains, racing cars or sailing ships. That is why staying safe is more important than looking for excitement.     5    . After all, there are plenty of other ways to explore this beautiful world we live in!

Locals are often the best sources of information when it comes to discovering hidden destinations. Engage (接触) with locals through conversations, or social media groups related to your destination.     5
