4 . Mother Teresa was born in Skopje on August 27, 1901. Her father worked in a store. Her family was not rich, but it was a happy family. She went to school when she was seven years old. She said that she had wanted to be a Missionary (传教士) when she was only 12. She took part in a nun (修女) organization when she was 18 years old. In 1928, she was sent to a church school to teach. But she left the school and went out to help the people who suffered from hunger and cold in 1946. Please remember that this is a cappella (清唱) competition!
No instruments or recorded music will be allowed.
Competitors may sing published or original songs in any style.
Competitors must be between 8 and 15 years old.
There are four categories (类)：
Solo (8 — 11 years old)
Solo (12 — 15 years old)
Group (8 — 11 years old)
Group (12 — 15 years old)
Competitors under 2 years old must stay with a parent or other adult at all times.
Each competitor must pay an entry fee of $10.
Winners will receive $500 and a course of 20 lessons with famous voice teacher Vickie Leonard.
Winners will be decided by three judges from the Chilton School of Music. Their decision is final.

Please arrive at the Edward Greatcoat Theater between 9:00 and 10:00 to register, as the competition will start at 11:00. The parking lot has limited spaces so you are advised to come as early as possible.
Shared dressing rooms with showers will be provided for all competitors.

8 . Halloween is a festival celebrated on October 31st. The name of the holiday means “hallowed” or “holy evening” because it happens the day before All Saints Day. It is said that Halloween is the children’s New Year’s Eve. They dress up with special costumes (服装), they eat too much, and they stay up too late celebrating.
Children go around the neighborhood wearing make-up, and dress in masks and colorful costumes. Horror movies and ghost stories are shown on TV on this day.
Adults and older children also celebrate Halloween with parades, festivals, and costume parties. Some people create their costumes; other people rent them. Contests are held, where the best costume receives a prize. One of the party events popular with children is dunking (浸泡) for apples. Apples are put in tubs filled with water. People try to get the apples using only their mouths; hands cannot be used.

It is important to remember that every soldier’s death is in exchange for more peace and happiness for the country.
Zhi Yueying
In 1980, Zhi Yueying, the 19-year-old from Nanchang, became a teacher in a rural (乡村的) school despite the disagreement from her family in Fengxin, Jiangxi. She firmly believes what education means to children. She once said that there is hope in perseverance (毅力), and that perseverance made her continue her teaching in the rural school for over 40 years.
Guo Xiaoping
Guo Xiaoping established the Linfen Red Ribbon School, which specializes in children with HIV/AIDS to let them receive treatment and education. Guo Xiaoping is a great teacher with a big heart, who chose to hold an umbrella over these children with love and dedication to protect them from the wind and rain for over 12 years.
