3 . Bob enjoys breakfasts of caviar, swims in his own saltwater pool and receives foot massages on the beach. A comfortable life, perhaps, but you could say he deserves it: Bob serves as an ambassador for conservation(保护大使). Bob,you see,is a flamingo(火烈鸟).

Odette Doest rescued Bob in 2016,after the bird crashed into a window in Curacao and hurt his left wing. While taking care of the bird at her wildlife sanctuary(庇护所),Doest discovered that Bob previously had been trained by people: He felt at ease with people, but he suffered from bumblefoot. The foot disease would have weakened his ability to catch food in the wild.

For those reasons, Doest decided to keep him as an educational animal at her sanctuary, alongside 90 other animals. When Doest began taking Bob on her foundation's weekly visits to schools on the island, the flamingo became famous instantly.

“Bob is like the hot item-everyone likes Bob,”Doest says. That's because most people have never seen such an elegant colorful bird up close.“Just don't try to take a Bobselfie. That's not what Bob is about,” Doest says firmly.“I have Bob for students to think about nature and the environment, and how a slight change in their habits can have a big effect on nature around us.”

That could mean choosing reusable cups instead of plastic bottles or skipping the balloons at a birthday party or picking up rubbish on the beach--all things Doest says children take to heart because they're so dazzled by Bob. Many of Doest's rescued birds were caught in fishing lines. In her talks, she stressed the environmental threat caused by fishing lines, along with plastic pollution.

1. What can we learn about Bob's life?

A.To take photos with the students.B.To teach students how to raise flamingos.
C.To make herself well-known on the island.D.To educate students about environmental protection.
4. What does the underlined word “dazzled” in the last paragraph probably mean?
A.Attracted.B.Disappointed.C.Upset.D.Challenged

4 . There’s no denying that learning a foreign language is difficult, and when it comes to speaking the language, it can be extremely tough. I remember walking into my first-ever Spanish class at university only to discover that half of my classmates were already fluent in multiple languages. It’s safe to say I felt out of my depth!

At first the thought of speaking Spanish terrified me; not only were my vocabulary and grammar very limited, but I had never spoken another language before. However, I was determined to overcome my fear, and by adopting a few simple methods I have been able to build my confidence and make progress. In fact, it was not as terrible as I thought. Here, I think I will share a few tips with you.

Firstly, it is OK to make mistakes for language learners and that you should accept them. This sounds obvious, but when it comes to language learning we often aim for perfection and feel as though we are not ready to speak until we have "enough" words or grammatical knowledge. The truth is you will never feel ready, and instead it is important to use the knowledge to communicate what you can.

This leads on to my next tip: don’t compare yourself to others. This can be a hard one, especially if you are in a large language class. It is important to remember that we all learn at different speeds and through different styles of learning. Something that really helped me progress was finding a patient language exchange partner. Finding someone whose level of English was similar to my level of Spanish to practice with made me feel much more confident.

Lastly, celebrate the small success and remember how far you have come! Instead of focusing on how far you have to go, focus on the progress you have already made and be proud of your achievements!

1. What does the underlined part suggest in the passage?
A.The author took great pride in his classmates.
B.The author wanted to leave university immediately.
C.The author failed to join in his classmates’ conversation.
D.The author was unable to speak many languages.
2. What is the common barrier for language learners?
A.They fail to have a good command of grammar.
B.They have a lack of courage to speak the language
C.They can’t use the language in right situations.
D.They can’t help comparing themselves to others.
3. What’s the best way to learn Spanish in the author’s opinion?
A.Find a partner whose Spanish is excellent.
B.Set long-term goals to improve enthusiasm.
C.Learn from an example and pick out weak points.
D.Choose a language exchange partner at the same level.
4. What does the author want to tell in the passage?
A.Mastering Spanish is a chance in a million.
B.Learning new languages is not so hard.
C.Confidence is the key to speaking a language.
D.Don’t ignore what you have achieved in learning.

5 . In Mark Turin’s article “Protecting Our Public Spaces” in Issue 14, he claims that “all graffiti (涂鸦) is vandalism (故意破坏财物), pure and simple, and offers no benefit to our public spaces.” I would like to point out that many people believe that graffiti is an art form that can benefit our public spaces just as much as sculptures, fountains, or other more accepted art forms.

People who object to graffiti usually do so more because of where it is, not what it is. They argue that posting graffiti in public places is considered an illegal act of property damage. But the location of such graffiti should not prevent the images themselves from being considered real art.

I would argue that graffiti is the most important public art form. Spray paint is a medium unlike any other. Through graffiti, the entire world has become a canvas (画布). These works of art dotting the urban landscape are available, free of charge, to everyone who passes by.

To be clear, I do not consider random words or names sprayed on stop signs to be art. Plenty of graffiti is just vandalism, pure and simple. However, there is also graffiti that is breathtaking in its complex detail, its realism, or its creativity. It takes great talent to create such involved designs with spray paint. Are these creators not artists just because they use a can of spray paint instead of a paintbrush?

To declare that all graffiti is vandalism, and nothing more, is a too simplistic statement. Furthermore, graffiti is not going anywhere, so we might as well find a way to live with it and enjoy its benefits. One choice could be to make a percentage of public space open to graffiti artists. By doing this, the public might feel like part owners of these works of art, rather than just the victims of a crime.

1. Mark Turin apparently believes that graffiti ________.
A.is not an art form
B.is too simple to be considered art
C.can only sometimes be considered a work of art
D.should be restricted to places where it is allowed
2. The author argues that graffiti ________.
A.is the only art form that is free
B.is best viewed on public walls rather than a canvas
C.provides more public benefits than sculptures do
D.should be judged on artistic qualities rather than places
3. The author concludes his passage by ________.
A.restating his positionB.questioning the magazine
C.offering an answer to the matterD.identifying the benefits of graffiti
