When I was about 18 months old, I was burned quite    1     (bad)by hot water.Maybe, it was the first time that my parents    2    (meet) such a terrible thing as new parents. This took place in the 1970s, so the technologywasn't    3    it is today. I did get skin grafis (移植), but it was still pretty bad.

    4    I grew up, I struggled with my scars. They seemed so big and ugly. Kids would wonder what happened to me and stared at me directly. Unwilling to show my scars, I always     5    (wear)high-necked tops. I feared to wear a swimsuit in summer and started avoiding any outdoor activities. So I missed out on a lot of fun. My scars led me to believe I never looked normal    6    my clothes on.

On my 19th birthday, one of my best friends took me by    7    shoulders and said, “Michelle, stop hiding ! Your burns are battle scars and you should treat them as a symbol of honor.” Her words made me realize that what I lacked most was    8    (confident).

Scars can be difficult to deal with. But in the end, it’s just     9    (damage)skin. Life is about so much more than worrying about the flaws on our bodies. Only if we accept ourselves as we are, can we find the     10    (mean) of life.

A young man, while travelling through a desert, came across a spring of clear water.    1    water was sweet. He filled his leather container so that he could bring some back to an elder     2     had been his teacher. After a four-day journey, the young man     3    (present) the water to the old man. We understand this lesson best when we receive gifts of love from children. We love the idea within the gift rather than the thing.

China will emerge stronger from the coronavirus challenge, experts said at a seminar here on Tuesday, while     1     (praise) China’s efforts to stop the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic (传染病).

Speaking at the seminar     2       (title) “Battling Coronavirus, ”Sumit Mullick，chief information commissioner of India’s southwestern state of Maharashtra, said that China has created a new criterion in addressing a health issue by quarantining (隔离) Wuhan, the epicenter city of the virus outbreak.

“The coronavirus does not understand or respect borders. It does not need a visa or passport.” Mullick said. “Challenges are     3     (true) in global in nature. ”

However, Chinese labs have quickly decoded the genetic sequence of the coronavirus and shared it with the world,     4     is now working on a new vaccine, he said.

R. N. Bhaskar, a senior journalist and consulting editor with Indian English newspaper Free Press Journal, said that China is doing all it can       5     (contain) the spread of the virus and create a vaccine.

“As       6     very big player in the global economy, there will be negative impact     7     the Chinese economy for a temporary period. However, thanks to the swift responses to the virus outbreak, the Chinese economy will overcome this crisis and emerge stronger,” he added.

Health officials at the panel discussion also listed the steps       8     (take) to fight the virus and shared their experiences in countering misinformation and creating       9       (aware) among the public at large.
