A few weeks ago, a series of deadly earthquakes     1     (strike) Syria and Turkey, causing massive damage. Rescue     2     (worker) continued to search for survivors in the rubble (废墟).

Ali Cakas is a 33-year-old world-famous mountain biker and coach for the Turkish national mountain bike team. He’s also a firefighter, so when     3     natural disasters occurred, he didn’t hesitate to search a collapsed apartment building in Nurdagi, Turkey.

Enkaz has now become the unofficial face of Ali’s fire department! The Dunhuang Academy recently showed its latest digital achievement—a digitalized version of the Library Cave.

As the 17th cave of the Mogao Grottoes(石窟), the Library Cave     1     (discover)in 1900 in Dunhuang City, a city in the northwest of China’s Gansu Province,     2     around 60, 000 rare cultural relics dug out. Since then, more than 10 countries     3     (take) away about 40, 000 pieces from the site. To protect the cultural relics, digital technology is used     4     (perform) 3-D modeling of the cultural relics and reproduce some of the relics     5     have been lost overseas. By     6     (visit) the website “Digital Dunhuang”, people can view the images of the cultural relics in the cave.

The Dunhuang Mogao Grottoes, are a 1,600-year-old UNESCO world heritage site.     7     idea of digitalizing Dunhuang was put forward in the late 1980s. The following decades have seen much     8     (develop) and numerous achievements in digital preservation (保存).

At present, the “digital Dunhuang project” has     9     (successful) completed the digital collection of over 300 grottoes. Its digital platform, launched at the end of 2022, shares about 6,500     10     (create) works with people around the world.

The vast fields of wheat in Northeast China are no ordinary plants — they were created in outer space. They are a variety known as Luyuan502 and are China’s second most     1     (wide) grown type of wheat. The plants were bred from seeds     2     (fly) into orbit 340 km above the Earth’s surface. These days, many Chinese young people have turned to trees to help with their stress. Although it sounds strange, there’s science behind the act of tree-hugging.

Qi Baishi is a world-famous art master in China.

He was born in     1     poor family from Xiangtan, Hunan province. He was at school for less than a year because     2     illnesses. One day, he found a Chinese painting guide book — Jieziyuan Huapu. The book inspired his interests in painting     3     (picture). He decided     4     (learn) by himself and later became a master of art through his hard work. In 1902, he     5     (start) to travel around China. He visited famous places, met many people and saw different kinds of art pieces. These experiences helped him become one of the     6    (good) artists of all time.
