1 . 阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

New friendships don’t just happen. Many of us struggle to meet people and develop quality connections. Whatever your age or situations, though, with a little effort and willingness to step outside of your comfort zone, you can easily make friends. The following tips will help you start a new friendship.

If you want to make friends, you first need to put yourself out there somehow in order to meet people. If you just sit alone, friends might come to you, but that’s not likely. For example, if you’re still in school, sit somewhere with other people. It doesn’t have to be a crowded table, but try to choose one with at least two other people. Remember, friends seldom come knocking on your door while you sit at home playing on your laptop.

Join a club to meet new people. This is a great way to find other people who have common interests. You don’t need to have a lot of common interests with people in order to make friends with them. If you like a certain topic. try searching for a location where you can meet people who share that interest. For example. you could join the science club at school, the marching band, or any other shared-interest group. Once you find someone who has similar interests to yours, you can exchange phone numbers or email addresses and keep in touch.

Volunteering is also a wonderful way to meet new friends. Do an online search or call charitable organizations in your area to find volunteering opportunities near you. For example, you might devote your time at a local nursing home, hospital, animal shelter, or non-profit organization. By working together, you build connections with people, and know people who care about the same things you care about.

Making friends is about developing and having a social connection which makes people want to be a part of your life. It can seem difficult at times, but often the best way to make it happen is to just go ahead and do it.

2 . Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main point(s) of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible.

Stressful situations are sometimes unavoidable. Each of us perceives challenges in our own way and reaction to them also varies. How stressful our life is depends not only on us. Other people influence it as well. And this is something we cannot change.

What if we do not try to change others, but rather try and change our attitude to stress and tension that we often experience at work?

Stretching releases muscle tension that accumulates in your back, shoulders, and neck during the day. Even when your day is extremely busy, do your best and set aside at least 5-10 minutes to do some exercise. There are plenty of exercises you can practise that do not require any special equipment: yoga, or simple squats — you can pick any kind of workout to your liking. Physical activity will boost your energy level and help you calm down. Working out is beneficial for both your body and mind.

Herbs work miracles. Some of them, such as chamomile and peppermint, are a powerful tool helping to fight stress and anxiety. NASA scientists have recently carried out research into the effect of herbs and found out that peppermint scent decreases tiredness by 20% and reduces frustration by 25%, Make a smarter choice and, while at work, drink herbal tea instead of coffee.

Once you find yourself in a different surroundings you will feel much better. If your office is situated in a busy city center, then you can spend your lunch break m a sidewalk cafe. Order your favorite drink and distract yourself by watching people go by. If your office is located in an environmentally clean place, for example, near a city park. You can then refresh yourself and relax a bit before you dive back into your working routine.

Call someone who you know can understand and support you when you feel stressed. A study shows that communication with close people, such as your friends or parents, produces oxytocin in your body — the hormone that is needed to successfully fight tension and stress.

Club Activities

Club activities after class hours are an important part of our school life. There are a number of sports and cultural study clubs that students may join. Students are free to choose the clubs they are particularly interested in. Some students do not join any clubs at all and some join two or more. But only a few do not take part at all. Our school has the following sports clubs: football, volleyball basketball, handball, hockey(曲棍球), tennis, badminton, gymnastics, judo(柔道), and kendo(剑术), they take place in the school gym or the school playing fields. There are also cultural activities such as the school orchestra, the school choir, and dance clubs. The students organize the clubs themselves without the help of teachers.

The clubs meet two to four times a week after school. Sports coaches and clubs leaders are often school graduates who come back to help.

Many students feel that club activities are the most enjoyable part of senior high school life. When we asked students in our school the question: “what interests you most in daily life?” These were their answers:

Classes: 28%: Teachers: 24%: Club activities: 38% and others 10%.

Young people spend a lot of time together in club activities and they often become true friends. These friendships often last a long time after graduation. Some become lifelong friends. In China, there’s a popular belief that true friends are people who have had similar life experiences, such as they have eaten rice from the same pot or they have lived under the same roof. Many graduates say that their best memories of Senior High school life are the days they spent in the mountains during the summer vacation, practicing and training with other club members.

4 . Directions:Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main point(s) of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible.

To adjust you baby to the external world, educating him is your main assignment. How will you educate him? What role will he play in the world?

According to Darwin’s theory of the evolution of the species, we are a competitive species and one survives by adapting itself biologically to various environments through various ways. Competition was useful for the progress of society and for the survival of human beings.

Today, however, the challenges are different. There are environmental imbalance, deaths of thousands of children every day by starvation and countless diseases. Therefore, it is urgent that the philosophy of preparing our children for competition and power be replaced by one of preparing them for love and cooperation.

The earth is a unique home to us all. We must educate our children so that they want to preserve nature and it can in return make them more powerful and capable in society. Our children have to learn that we don’t need to practice actions that benefit only our homeland while all other countries are destroyed. The destruction of other countries and lives leads to the impossibility of the future existence of our home. We must teach our children that the main necessity of men and children is love. Love is good to ourselves, others and nature.

But it is getting harder to love. We are not capable of demonstrating hate to a flower, grabbing it and throwing it at the floor and stepping on it. It sounds insane! But we are insensitive to the extent of seeing a homeless person on the ground and pretending it’s not our problem! Our strong idea of competition has led us to total insensibility!

The Importance of English

As is well-known, English is very important. The reasons are as follows.

Firstly, English is now one of the most common languages in the world and is one of the official languages of the UN.

Secondly, it is said that over 90% of the websites on the Internet and over 80% of the world’s mails are in English. More than 70% of the printed books are in English, too.

What’s more, it is spoken not only as a native language but also as an official language and as a foreign language. In China, it is necessary for us to learn English well. If you wish to go to any key university, you have to achieve high grades in the English examinations.

Last but not least, there are some differences between the English spoken in different countries. However, people usually have no difficulty understanding each other. As long as you can speak English, you can communicate with each other easily in most cases.

In short, what an important language English is !

6 . 阅读下面短文,根据其内容写一篇60词左右的内容概要。

Your house may have an effect on your figure. Experts say the way you design your home could play a role in whether you pack on the pounds or keep them off. You can make your environment work for you instead of against you. Here are some ways to turn your home into part of your diet plan.

Open the curtains and turn up the lights. Dark environments are more likely to encourage overeating, for people are often less self-conscious when they’re in poorly lit places—and so more likely to eat lots of food. If your home doesn’t have enough window light, get more lamps and flood the place with brightness.

Mind the colors. Research suggests warm colors fuel our appetites. In one study, people who ate meals in a blue room consumed 33 percent less than those in a yellow or red room. Warm colors like yellow make food appear more appetizing, while cold colors make us less hungry. So when it’s time to repaint, go blue.

Don’t forget the clock—or the radio. People who eat slowly tend to consume about 70 fewer calories per meal than those who rush through their meals. Being keeping track of the time, and try to make dinner last at least 30 minutes. And while you’re at it, actually sit down to eat. If you need some help slowing down, turning on relaxing music. It makes you less likely to rush through a meal.

Downsize the dishes. Big serving bowls and plates can easily make us fat. We eat about 22 percent more when using a 12inch plate instead of a 10inch plate. When we choose a large spoon over a smaller one, total intake jumps by 14 percent. And we’ll pour about 30 percent more liquid into a short, wide glass than a tall, skinny glass.

7 . Directions: Read the following three passages. Summarize the main idea and the main point(s) of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible.

Migrant workers

In the past twenty years, there has been an increasing tendency for workers to move from one country to another. While some newly independent countries have restricted most jobs to local people, others have attracted and welcomed migrant workers. This is particularly the case in the Middle East, where increased oil incomes have enabled many countries to call in outsiders to improve local facilities. Thus the Middle East has attracted oil-workers from the USA and Europe. It has brought in construction workers and technicians from many countries, including South Korea and Japan.

In view of the difficult living and working conditions in the Middle East, surprising it is not that the pay is high to attract suitable workers. Many engineers and technicians can earn at least twice as much money in the Middle East as they can in their own country, and this is a major attraction. An allied(联合的)benefit is the low taxation or a complete lack of it. This increases the amount of pay received by visiting workers and is very popular with them.

Sometimes a disadvantage has a compensating(补偿的)advantage. For example, the difficult living conditions often lead to increased friendship when workers have to depend on each other for safety and comfort. In addition, many migrant workers can save large sum of money partly because of the lack of entertainment facilities. The work is often complex and full of problems but this merely presents greater challenge to engineers who prefer to find solutions to problems rather than do routine work in their home country.

One major problem which affects migrant workers in the Middle East is that their jobs are temporary ones. (They are nearly always on contract, so it is not easy for them to plan ahead with great confidence. This is to be expected since no country welcomes a large number of foreign workers as permanent residents.) In any case, migrant workers accept this disadvantage along with others, because of the considerable financial benefits which they receive.

In recent years, Internet voting has become increasingly popular in China. People not only cast on-line votes themselves, but also urge others to vote for competitions like the “Most Beautiful Teacher” and the “Cutest Baby”.

Li Jiang, a high school student, is invited to vote in the “Best Police Officer” competition, organized by the local government to let the public have a better understanding of police officers’ daily work. Li Jiang visits the website and reads all the stories. He is deeply moved by their glorious deeds. He is already thinking of becoming a policeman himself in the future.

Su Hua is invited by his uncle to vote for his cousin in the “Future Singer” competition. He has already received three similar invitations this week. His uncle tells him that if his cousin wins the competition, the family will win an overseas tour for free. Su Hua likes his cousin very much, but he finds other singers perform even better. To vote, or not to vote? This is a question that troubles him very much.

9 . Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main point(s) of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible.

Hanks, wining the Golden Globe Cecil B. deMille Award which is for “outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment”, shared a story of when he worked in his first professional job as an intern at the Great Lakes Shakespeare Festival. Hanks said he and his fellow interns showed up to rehearsals after doing a little too much partying the previous night. The director wasn’t having it.

“He screamed at us,” said Hanks. “You know what your job is?” the director asked. “You have got to show up on time, and you have to know the text, and you have to have a head full of ideas. Otherwise I can’t do my job.”

And there it is, a simple, brilliant, three-step formula for success:

Show up on time, know the text and have a head full of ideas.

Show up on time

“Showing up on time is one of the greatest liberating acts you can give yourself in a movie. You have the freedom of being there early enough to settle down - because when the time comes, you have to hit the marks,” explains Hanks.

Know the text

“Knowing your text - it’s not just your lines, it’s the whole thing,” Hanks continued. “You might not be right in the opinion you bring to it. But you’ve got to come at it with some direction.”

In a word, Hanks is speaking here about preparation. Generally speaking, the more prepared you are, the more successful you’ll be.

Think about it - professional athletes, creatives even analysts, it’s not the smartest or most talented person in the room who’s the most successful.

It’s the one who comes most prepared.

Have a head full of ideas

Speaking to this final point, Hanks said the following:

“Bring anything. Try anything. They might not use it. If it is not fit, they won’t use it.”

The best companies are successful because their employees are constantly seeking to try new things to grow and improve.

Routines and processes are helpful, but growth doesn’t happen when you always do things the exact same way. Growth is a result of being willing to take risks, to break out of your comfort zone and to embrace failure when it happens.

Because out of failure comes learning. And out of learning comes growth.

I guess everyone would like to set off for a journey with someone we can understand and have fun with. Travelling with a companion(同伴) is great!

It’s good to have someone with you who can watch your backpack when you want to use the toilet, find the way back home when you get lost, carry some of your luggage when you’re tired, take some photos of you when you want and help you in all kinds of situations. The feeling of having someone by your side makes you feel less stressful about many things.

With a companion you can together share the beautiful moments during the travels, experience the same things in a different way and support each other. It’s much more interesting and exciting when you have the chance to share something with someone while on your road. Meanwhile, there is always someone whom you can shout at when you are angry, or a shoulder on which you can cry when you miss your home.

A companion can share the costs with you. You can stay in one room, buy a dinner, have it together and share the bill, etc. It’s good to travel with someone who has the same or similar pattern of payment as you so you can support each other without having any arguments.

Having a companion by your side when travelling means less loneliness. You don’t think about it unless you get left in the middle of nowhere, far away from your friends and family. Then you wish to have someone with you.

In short, travelling with someone is the best choice for people who are short of travel experience. We might sometimes feel like being on our own and enjoy the sights with nobody behind our back but at the end of the day you have much more fun when being with someone, especially for a long run.
