文章大意:本文是一篇记叙文。主要讲述的是作者在一个忙碌的清晨,帮助一位80多岁的老人去路中间捡拾房子钥匙的故事。

1 . It was a busy morning and I had several things to do before it became too hot to be outside the house. As I was walking by the side of a busy road, I saw an old lady, maybe in her 80s standing dangerously close to the traffic. Although my mind was preoccupied (心事重重的), I thought to myself that I should warn her not to stand so close to the disordered traffic rushing by.

When I reached the place where the old lady was standing, I noticed that she was trying to get the attention of passers-by who of course were too busy to take note of her. She kept pointing to the middle of the road. When I tried to gently move her back further away from the busy road, she said that she was standing there because she had dropped her house key in the middle of the road and was unable to open her house without the key. I looked around and no one seemed to be interested in the two of us. I knew I was getting late but decided to help.

The traffic was busy on the road with people on their bikes and office goers in cars as well as school buses rushing with school children. It was the worst time of the day to cross a busy road without a traffic light. I asked the old lady to stay at a safe distance, took a deep breath, and I myself carefully stepped onto the road waving my hands madly almost expecting to be hit by an oncoming vehicle. At first one lane (车道) stopped and then I moved further on to the middle of the road continuing to wave my hand. Just then a school bus was approaching me and I bravely stepped in front of it to stop it.

The driver seemed so angry that he shouted at me.     1

I carefully helped the old lady leave the crowded street.     2

A.I explained to him that I was going to fetch the key for the old lady. The driver understood me and was moved by my behavior. He said he would block the car behind him so I could get the key. I walked to the middle of the road, found the old lady’s key, and handed it into her hand. At this time, I heard cheers coming from the school bus.
B.I asked him what the problem was. He said he had just come from the airport without a customer and he had no money to pay for the bill. Hearing this,I comforted him patiently that everything would be fine later. After chatting with me,his anger slowly died down.He said goodbye to me with gratitude.
C.Knocked down by the bus, the old lady was lying on the road, crying loudly. Her cry attracted so many passers-by that the street was crowed in one minute. But nobody dared to give her a hand. Seeing this, I walked to her to help the old lady stand up .
D.She thanked me again and again. Considering that the old lady couldn’t follow the traffic rules, I thought it would be dangerous for her to go home alone. She might get into trouble again on the road. I decided to help her to the end. Asking the old lady to wait by the side of the road, I stopped a taxi and asked the driver to send the old lady home safely.

We met Bailey 5 years ago. He was a standard poodle (髦毛小狗) born on Valentine’s day in 2020, and came to us in a small blue box. His previous owner posted the news online and we adopted him. Our only request was that he behave calmly and be able to put up with the pushing and hugging of our eight-year-old daughter and six-year-old son.

We were a sweet family: me, my husband, our children Angela and Tony. But for years. I’d felt that we wouldn’t be truly whole if we didn’t have a dog. Also, my husband worked for a commercial company and traveled around 200 days a year. and I knew that having a large animal sleeping by the door made me feel safer.

The last piece of our purzle fell into place when we opened the box. With his dark hair and smart eyes, Bailey was beautiful. He was so small that he could fit in the palm of my hand, his big paws (爪子) resting at his sides. He was a little scared, too. As I pulled him close, I felt his heart racing, and 1 wondered if we had done the right thing by taking him away from his mother. But it was too late. Angela and Tony were already arguing about who would carry him and who had the right to bathe him.

Over the following months, we spent countless hours watching Bailey play with his toys or roll around on the living room floor. Like most poodles, he was smart. He quickly mastered house-training and never chewed (咀) on our furniture or shoes. He considered himself one of us.

One night we were sleeping in the bedroom when I heard some strange noise.     1

At that time, Bailey ran towards me.     2

A.I thought it was Bailey running and hitting something, so I kept lying in the bed and made an attempt to fall asleep again. However, the noise became louder and louder, which had already annoyed me. Quickly l got up from my bed. I opened the door and found Bailey running around the living room, trying to let all the things fall down. These abnormal behaviors really made me confused and a little afraid.
B.He firmly grabbed my trousers and pulled me to the kitchen. As I approached the kitchen could obviously smell a strong burning smell and immediately knew what had happened. When¹ aw the fierce fire in the kitchen, I dashed into my children’s room like an arrow(前), waking them up at my maximum voice. Rushing out of the house together with my family. I called 911 and asked our neighbors for help at the same time. Fortunately both my family and my house were saved Thanks to our smart Bailey, we did escape from death.
C.Angela and Tony completed the delicious breakfast and they could not wait to bring it to me who slept in the room. Their father praised their hard-earned work with his thumb up, informing them that I was sleeping on the second floor. To my surprise, their hand-made food was so delicious that l would never forget it. Obviously. what they had done for me would be rooted in memory.
D.I nodded with a smile and encouraged the children to get started. Quickly. Angela volunteered to get the big box of com and prepared to make popcorn. At the same time, Tony. my smart boy. went to buy some paper bags. I ran to Bailey’s home to invite him. Not surprisingly. Bailey was amazed at this great project and couldn’t wait to come. To our delight, the popcorn they made looked great and tasted delicious. Finally. they packed the sweet popcorn in the paper bags together. Laughter and happiness filled this house.

David was a 14-year-old boy who was very honest and diligent. Recently, he had entered a new school and still had no friends yet. On Monday morning, he was nearly late for school. The night before, his family attended a wedding and reached home late, which contributed to his being late.

All the morning, David could not pay attention to anything and wanted the bell to ring so that he could buy something to eat. After a few hours, when the bell rang, David quickly opened his schoolbag to find his money, but just then he remembered that he had left for school in a hurry in the morning and forgotten to take money. He looked under his books, hoping to find some money but there was nothing.

Not knowing what to do, he walked out of the classroom and sat on a bench in front of the canteen (食堂). He saw a few of his classmates there, among whom was Bill. He was one of the richest kids in his class, but he was a very arrogant boy who thought everyone else was a loser. But as David was new, he didn’t know much about Bill.

When he went towards Bill and asked if he could borrow some money for his lunch, Bill laughed a lot and said,“I knew you were a loser, maybe a beggar?” Bill laughed out so loud that other kids also heard it and made fun of the situation. David didn’t answer Bill, and slowly walked back towards an empty bench.

When he reached the bench, he noticed something lying near it. It was a wallet. He picked it up and recognized it was Bill’s, as he remembered Bill ever showed it to his friends and told them that his uncle had bought it for him as a birthday gift. There was quite a lot of money inside for a kid.

At first, David wanted to keep it a secret and punish Bill.     1     .

Then Bill said: “Why are you giving it back?”     2    .

A.However, it was not easy. A sense of guilt rising inside of him. Glancing first at Bill, who was still chatting happily, and then at the wallet in his hand, David finally made up his mind. He got up and went straight to Bill. Upon seeing David approach him, Bill said, “Hey loser! You okay? Still want money?” “No,” replied David, “I’ve just come to return your wallet which you dropped over there.” Bill stood, shocked. All his friends were silent too.
B.Billy rose at the break of day, hungry and thirsty. She could hear water trickling somewhere at a distance. Quickly she followed the sound to a stream. To her great joy, she also saw some berry bushes. She drank and ate a few berries. Never in her life had she tasted anything better. Feeling stronger now, Billy began to walk along the stream and hope it would lead her to the lake.
C.“Honesty matters.” explained David directly. Bill tried to avoid David’s shining eyes. What followed was an awkwardly (尴尬地) long silence, eventually ending with David’s stomach growling (腹鸣) loudly. Surprisingly, the arrogant boy reached out his hand and said, “What about having lunch together?” Before David could say anything, Bill quickly added, “Of course, my treat.” It was on that very day that David made his first friend in the new school, and he truly recognized the value of sincerity and honesty in a relationship.
D.If only Billy had not left her mobile phone in that bag with David. Billy kept moving, but the farther she walked, the more confused she became. As night was beginning to fall, Billy was so tired that she had to stop for the night. Lying awake in the dark, Billy wanted very much to be with David and her family. She wanted to hold him and tell him how much she loved him.

I was surprised when I got a short message from my father wishing me a happy birthday.

I had expected to hear from my mother, my grandmother and other relatives (亲戚) but never from my father. Lying in bed, memories of my father came into my mind.

When I was a little boy, I regarded my father as a hero able to do anything. However, things slowly began to change. The more I learned, the more I doubted what he said. The gap between us grew and, at last, I didn’t even like communicating (交流) with him.

My father, in my mind, had no interest in talking with me. Dinner was the only time we were together. He had no time to watch TV with me. He would tell me to ask my mother if I needed something. He didn’t ever answer my calls when I phoned from school. I got used to the changes. I thought that perhaps my father no longer loved me, so I hardly communicated with him and even was unwilling to contact him.

As time passed by, however, I began to wonder whether my behavior was right. And I began to be more and more upset. I had no idea how to get along well with him. One day, my mother told me that each time I called, my father was always listening beside her. Suddenly, I hated myself for my cold behavior toward him.

I tried thousands of times to apologize to my father. In the end, however, I was always too embarrassed (尴尬的) about what I had done.

But that Saturday, I was so touched by his short message and decided to send a reply “ Thank you, my dear father.”     1

Two days later, I decided to go home.     2

A.It was a special moment for me. What happened to my father? But I didn’t think it anymore for there were a variety of activities attracting me deeply in school. We didn’t communicate with each other until the end of the week I had no money for dinner and mother couldn’t be gotten touch with somehow. I phoned father three times and finally an angry voice answered “What’s wrong with you?”
B.With a sincere heart, I finished the message and sent it out. My lips curving into a smile, my heart pounding strongly and my palms sweating, I waited for his response nervously and anxiously. After a while, a message sent by my father said, “Dad loves you forever and I am always by your side.” Seeing this, I felt a great sense of warmth welling up in my heart.
C.I was so happy that mother had prepared my favorite food and I had a really good meal. My father and I didn’t even have a word with each other during dinner and none of us thought it was strange. Maybe this would be the right way we behaved with our families. Anyway, It was a nice meal.
D.As soon as I opened the door, a good smell of meal took hold of me. My mother hugged me and said my father had been so nervous when he received my reply. “Where’s my dad?” Suddenly a handsome face appeared. “Surprise!” my father said, “To me, you are the whole world!” I hugged him tightly, with tears in my eyes. Indeed, love should be made known to loved ones.

5 . It was Sunday in Montreal, Canada. There were three kids talking and laughing happily as they took turns riding a scooter (滑板车) on a quiet street. 11-year-old Dale had just jumped off the scooter as his neighbors Zoe, aged 7, claimed her turn, and Julie, 9, looked on. Ten minutes later, Zoe sat down on the scooter to catch her breath. That was when a bearded man with a head of messy hair appeared. Without saying a word, the man picked Zoe up off the scooter and calmly stepped away.

The guy held Zoe gently like a baby and just walked down the street. In fact, the calm way the man behaved led Dale to believe that he must be a relative of Zoe’s. But something wasn’t right. “I could see Zoe’s face,” Dale said. “She was afraid.”

As the man walked on, Zoe’s fear transformed into weeps (哭泣), and then she cried for help. She began kicking and moving, trying to get free of the man’s control. “What are you doing?” Julie shouted. But the man, undisturbed, just walked on until he reached an alley (小巷) and disappeared.

Dale was frightened, yet he never thought about the danger to himself. The only thing he wanted to do was to get Zoe back. But what was a 4-foot-tall kid going to do to stop a grown man? “I wanted to help but I couldn’t do it myself,” he thought to himself. “Tell Zoe’s parents, Julie!” He shouted as he started running towards the alley.

Zoe’s parents were relaxing on the sofa in their living room when their front door burst open.

“A bad grown man just took Zoe away!” yelled Julie.     1     .

At that very moment, Zoe’s parents arrived.     2     .

A.Learning what had happened, Zoe’s parents phoned the police without delay. The next moment, they jumped into their car and drove off directed by Julie. By then Dale had reached the alley, but the man was nowhere to be seen. “I must find Zoe,” Dale said to himself. He ran along the alley to the end, where he spotted the man walking towards a white house.“Stop! Stop!” With these words, he rushed at the guy fearlessly.
B.They heard a strange voice from the corner of a bookshop, somehow like a child crying. All of them looked at each other’s faces gladly and held their breath with their legs moving on. The first try, however, failed. It turned out to be Dale. Suddenly, a sound of running came into their ears and they quickly ran too. Eventually, they found Zoe left alone under an oak tree safely and no sign of the bearded man. Thank goodness! They got Zoe back.
C.Knowing the fact, Zoe’s parents rushed out of the house without hesitation. Then, they urgently knocked at the doors of the nearby neighbors for help. Everyone shocked. They came to the police together and told the police what had happened. Zoe’s parents sincerely prayed to God, saying “Bless my poor child. Please! Please!…” All the people around touched and would like to give a helping hand. They came back to the street and searched.
D.“Help! Help!” Dale shouted. Immediately Zoe’s father took off towards the guy. Seeing this, the guy hurriedly let go of Zoe and broke into a run. Zoe’s father dashed up, caught hold of him and pressed him to the ground. Zoe ran crying into her mother’s arms. Minutes later, the police arrived and arrested the guy. Dale breathed a sigh of relief. Dale’s quick thinking and bravery saved a little girl.

A funny thing happened to Arthur when he was on the way to work one day. As he walked along Park Avenue near the First National Bank, he heard the sound of someone trying to start a car. He tried again and again but couldn’t get the car moving. Arthur turned and looked inside at the face of a young man who looked worried. Arthur stopped and asked. “It looks like you’ve got a problem,” Arthur said.

“I’m afraid so. I’m in a big hurry and I can’t start my car.”

“Is there something I can do to help?” Arthur asked. The young man looked at the two suitcases in the back seat and then said, “Thanks. If you’re sure it wouldn’t be too much trouble, you could help me get these suitcases into a taxi.”

“No trouble at all. I’d be glad to help.”

The young man got out and took one of the suitcases from the back seat. After placing it on the ground, he turned to get the other one. Just as Arthur picked up the first suitcase and started walking, he heard the long loud noise of an alarm.

It was from the bank. There had been a robbery!

Park Avenue had been quiet a moment before. Now the air was filled with the sound of the alarm and the shouts of people running from all directions. Cars stopped and the passengers joined the crowd in front of the bank. People asked each other, “What happened?” But everyone had a different answer.

Arthur, still carrying the suitcase, turned to look at the bank and walked right into the young woman in front of him.

She looked at the suitcase and then at him. Arthur was surprised. “Why is she looking at me like that?” He thought. “The suitcase! She thinks I am the bank thief!”

Arthur looked around at the crowd of people. He became frightened, and without another thought, he started to run.

B.Zarina found it interesting to see her mother at work. “It’s really strange seeing Mum at work-running around, getting serious and telling people what to do.” She has always liked this idea of going into law and thinks it likely that she will follow in her mother’s footsteps. Arthur insisted that the suitcase be opened to make sure the money in it was not lost. Much to Arthur’s surprise, there was no money except some clothes and many books. Immediately, Arthur realized that he mistook the young man for the bank thief. Arthur felt embarrassed but quite relieved. What a funny thing it was for Arthur!
