1 . How to Obey and Respect Your Parents

Part of growing up means taking more responsibility for your life and actions. But your sense of responsibility and independence may cause tension (紧张关系) between you and your parents. However, listening to your parents and keeping a line of communication open will show them that you respect them and their wishes. Additionally, by respectfully disagreeing with your parents, you may be able to come to a solution that satisfies both you and your parents.

1    . Avoid interrupting your parents while they are talking. Let your parents say what they need to say before you respond.

Talk to Your Parents. Have a conversation with your parents at least once a week. Parents like to know what is going on in their kid’s life. They like to hear about school, friends, weekend plans, and other topics. Once or twice a week, sit down with your mom or dad after dinner or breakfast to catch up.

Disagree Respectfully.     2    . Try to avoid screaming and yelling at your parents if you disagree with a rule or something they have said. If you find yourself becoming angry, count to three in your head and take a deep breath. Then respond as calmly as possible. Keep in mind that your parents just want to protect and care for you.

At last, show your gratitude by giving them a card. Pick up a thank you card from your local pharmacy or grocery store.     3    . Tell them that you appreciate them and love them.

A.Listen to Your Parents
B.Remain calm if you disagree
C.Plan and cook a meal yourself
D.Better yet, make a handmade thank you card

2 . How to store leftovers (吃剩的食物)

One of the things we most need fridge space for is storing already-cooked extra food. How to store leftovers can often vary, but the most important rule is to refrigerate them right away, even if they’re still a little warm.     1    .

From there, use the expert Palmer’s tips below to keep your leftovers fresh and tasting their best on day two.

2    . Palmer likes glass containers (容器) with tight-fitting tops best but points out that reusing other types of containers is very fine for leftover short-term storage. “Most of us are looking for ways to reduce our waste, so don’t be afraid to clean and reuse proper containers from grocery (杂货店)items or takeout to store ingredients (调料) and leftovers.”

Give canned foods a new home. If the food originally came in a can, put it in a different food-storage container—whether that’s glass, plastic or silicone—because the metal on the rim of the can has the potential to leach into the food.

Cover up strong-smelling foods.    3    . “Don’t leave items with strong smells, like cut onions and mustard, uncovered in the refrigerator,”Palmer says. “Items like eggs and soft cheeses can absorb those odors, and it can change their flavor.”

A.Choose the right leftovers
B.Choose the right container
C.Letting them sit out for longer can cause food borne illness
D.Do yourself a favor and keep strongly smelly leftovers under wraps

Develop your communication skills.     2    . This communication barrier is a big problem for everyone. More resources are there for improving your language. As soon as possible learn the language well and get feedback from others. Always remember that for a better presentation, good communication skills are very important.

3    . Some people use the language that other people can not understand. Some people do this in order to show their word power. Try to use the language that is easily understandable. Try not to use more technical term in your speech. Avoid mispronunciation and misuse of words which affect your speech badly. You can seek the help of audio programs to avoid your mistakes.

4 . How to make friends at a new school

Starting with a new school can be difficult. Everything seems to be different, and you don’t even know where to go for your own class.     1    if you use these skills, you can quickly turn some of those strangers into friends.

Be yourself.

    3

Remember to be nice to the people you meet at your new school. If you think that you will say something that may make them feel sad, do not say anything and just nod your head if they talk to you. Also, remember to be as helpful as possible.

Believe in yourself.

A smile goes a long way. When you walk in the halls, don’t keep your eyes on the floor. Raise your head and make eye contact (目光接触) with other people If you see someone you know, smile or say “Hi” Introduce yourself,     4

Remember people’s names.

6 . The Best Medicine

As I approach the hospital wearing my white coat, I look just like any other doctor. That is until I put on my curly rainbow wig, big red nose, and add my name badge “Doctor Larry Laugh-Out-Loud”. I walk through the doors into the waiting area, where there’s a familiar atmosphere of boredom and tension. People sit uncomfortably on plastic chairs, looking through old magazines, all of which have been read hundreds of times previously. Anxious parents do what they can to comfort nervous and crying children.

In the middle of this particular scene I spot a small girl whose ankle is twice its normal size. I speak with the on-duty nurse, who tells me that Lara’s parents rushed her to the hospital after she fell off her bicycle.    1    .Although it’s the doctors and nurses who will treat her injury, it’s my job to make her feel better.

Scientific studies show that laughter produces chemicals to make people feel better, which means clown doctors can be helpful. We are specially trained clowns who work as part of a programme known as “hospital clowning”.    2    . Although the doctors and nurses did a great job, hospitals weren’t really designed for children. I spent much of the time when I was there feeling frightened and more than little bored! Being a clown doctor means I can help people by entertaining them.

Visiting hospitals and other health care facilities, we clown doctors work together with medical professionals. On a typical day, we spend our time cheering up patients, their families, and more often than not, the hospital staff, too! We do this by doing magic tricks, singing songs, telling stories and, of course, telling silly jokes. Some children, though, don’t feel like laughing, especially if they’re in pain. We have to be very sensitive and work closely with the doctors and nurses, who keep us updated on each patient.

3    . While the doctor concentrates on examining Lara’s ankle, I get her attention by doing a magic trick. Although she is clearly still in some pain, her scared and anxious look has been replaced—first by a small smile, and then by loud laughter as I “magically” produce her sock from out of my pocket. Seeing their daughter so much happier has in turn made Lara’s parents more relaxed.

And as for me? Well, when I take off my wig and my red nose, I’m still wearing a big smile, as I remember all the fun and laughter of the day. While there might be more hospital visits ahead for Lara and others, I hope that clown doctors help make it a friendlier place to visit.     4    .

A.And my magic medicine does indeed seem to do the trick
B.As the saying goes, he who laughs last laughs the best
C.After all, it really is true that “laughter is the best medicine”
D.I chose this career because of my experience of going to hospital when I was a kid
E.Since getting here, Lara has spent her time crying in pain

8 . How to get along with others well

There are a lot of different people in the world, but despite our differences we all want to get along. Getting along with someone isn’t about being their best friend or sharing all their hobbies.     1

Be a good listener. To start a conversation, it is important to listen first, especially when you are in a group. First, examine the situation and the conversation, then say whatever you think fit.

2     It is not your job to change anyone else. It is not in your power to change anyone else. Let other people live how they want to live. You can only change how you interact with people. You can always maintain a good attitude around them so that your relationship with them might change.

Keep your sense of humor. A little laughter goes a long way, and a smile is a good medicine. If someone is sad, smile at them.

Be sincere. While each one of these tips is important, none stands alone.     3     People will sense when you are pretending to be positive. All of these tips without sincerity will end up destroying any positive effect you were hoping to produce. Following the tips above, you will find yourself getting along with people wherever you go!

A.They all operate altogether, but nothing is more important than sincerity.
B.Being kind is its own reward.
C.It is about treating people with respect and care.
D.Don’t try to change people.

9 . How to Spread Awareness About Climate Change

Climate change is one of the biggest problems we’re facing on our planet. Even though some people aren’t aware of how seriously it affects the world, there are a lot of things you can do to keep them informed.

Share news on social media.     1    . Look online for videos, news articles, and recent research about climate change from sources you trust, such as the EPA, the NOAA, or NASA. Post the links on your Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram feeds and encourage other people to share them as well.

2    . Talk about the visible impacts if someone doesn’t see the big picture. Some people might not notice the effects of climate change and don’t understand how severe of a problem it is. Discuss the changes that have happened in your community due to climate change so they have a better idea of the problems.

Create art relating to climate change. Show the effects and images of climate change through your work. Art inspires so many people, so it might be a good way to show your concerns about climate change.

Then, you should keep in mind that climate change is the phenomenon of changing weather patterns in the world.     3    , and avoid politically biased or commercially-biased media.

A.Bring up real-life examples
B.Reach all your friends and family with reputable articles

10 . Every time you’re online, you are bombarded (轰炸) by pictures, articles, links and videos trying to tell their stories. Unfortunately, not all these stories are true. There is a range of fake news. Read these tips, and don’t get fooled!

Check the story in other places. Look to see if the story is on other news sites(网站) that you know and trust.     3     then it probably isn’t fake (although there are some exceptions), as many big news organizations try to check their sources before they publish a story.

If you find a news story that you know is fake, the most important advice is: don’t share it!

A.If you do find it on many other sites
B.If you know these things from online news
C.Look at the website where the story comes from
D.You can also use a tool like Google Reverse Image search
