1 . Farmers and runners have a lot in common. There is the drive to struggle in tough conditions. There is the ability to do hard labor, outside in any condition. There is also the restlessness, which, however, might be unique to Elle Purrier St. Pierre, a farmer and a professional runner, who admits she has a tough time sitting still, as a result of her growing up on a dairy(奶制品)farm, where she developed a working attitude that is hard to change. "Cows need to be fed; they need to be milked. And if something breaks, you have to figure out a way to fix it, and you have your responsibilities no matter what," she says. "That attitude really helps me in my career now."
Purrier St. Pierre will run for Team USA in the Olympic Games in Tokyo this year, where she’ll compete in the 1,500-meter run. In February 2020, she broke the American record for fastest indoor mile, with a time of 4:16.85. A year later, she broke the American record for the indoor two-mile, at 9:10.28. And sure, she trains hard, and is diligent and naturally athletic. But according to Purrier St. Pierre, farming is what initially set her up for success on the track.
"Runners and farmers are similar in their lifestyle. It’s just something that they do every single day. They’re kind of addicted," says Furrier St. Pierre. "It’s just who you are."
While farming is a central part of who Furrier St. Pierre is, running is a more recent addition. She started running in high school, despite the school not actually having a track. Instead, she trained on the dirt roads near her farm or the mountain biking trails that surround the hilly town. They proved to be good training grounds. It was in college that she started to identify as a runner and pursue it as a career. Now, running is what she’s known for, and there are high hopes for her to bring home a medal from Tokyo.
Whatever happens at the games, Furrier St. Pierre is excited to come home to the support of her husband, who is unsurprisingly, also a dairy farmer. As much as running is her life and career at this moment, Furrier St. Pierre keeps one eye on her future, and that’s on the farm.
"I am such a homebody and very true to my roots. I’ll always be a farmer. I’m pursuing this career right now, as a runner, but I’m still very much a farmer."

2 . It is inevitable (不可避免的) that students will make mistakes. Some teachers think punishing students is the most effective way for them to learn their lessons. Others choose a more moderate (温和的) way, like a face-to-face talk. I support the second.
In my opinion, punishment, especially physical punishment, will harm the students mentally. The students are likely to feel very ashamed. Their confidence may get lost as a result. They may end up locking themselves up and refusing to communicate with even their best friends. In such a situation, it will be very difficult to encourage them to open up again.
Furthermore, punishment is likely to cause additional misunderstandings between the teacher and the student. For example, my cousin once disturbed his teacher in class by talking to another student. The teacher only punished him instead of both of them. He believed the teacher to be partial towards students with better grades. Little by little, he started to dislike this teacher.
To help students learn lessons from their mistakes, there are many better methods for teachers to use than punishment. Here are some suggestions:
① Both the student and the teacher should calm down and then discuss the problem together.
② The teacher should give the student a chance to express his or her thoughts on the problem. In this way, the student may also be more willing to follow the teacher’s advice.
③ The teacher and the student can reach an agreement. For example, if the student promises not to make the same mistake again, the teacher can promise him or her a reward (奖励).

4 . Would you believe it, Bangladesh is the happiest nation in the world! The United States, on the other hand, is a sad story: it ranks only 46th in the World Happiness Survey. That's far behind India, the fifth happiest place in the world, and others including Ghana and Latvia, Croatia and Estonia.
The research was led by London School of Economics professors into the link between personal spending power and the quality of life. It has proved that money can buy everything but happiness. The study revealed that people in Bangladesh, one of the poorest countries in the world, act far more happiness from their small incomes than, for example, the British (32nd on the list) do from their relatively large bank balances. In fact, people in most rich countries are much unhappier than poorer people in countries like the Domini can Republic and Armenia.
Most unfortunate, however, are Russians and people in some other parts of the former Soviet Union. They are neither rich nor happy, indicates the World Happiness Survey.
The study shows that although the British have twice as much money to spend in real terms compared with 40 years ago, their quality of life has not improved. Earlier surveys showed that many Britons thought money could bring happiness. The new study shows that such a link still exists in poor countries because a small increase in income can mean large improvements in lifestyle.
The researchers have concluded that although Britons are rich compared with most other countries, many suffer from an emotional poverty caused by consumerism (消费主义) and the breakdown of family life. “We are being seduced by a huge economic power and our personal needs are not being met,” said nip Marks, a social sciences researcher at survey University who also worked on the report.

6 . Hundreds of millions have rolled up their sleeves for the COVID-19 vaccine, but why haven't they rolled up their pants legs instead? Why do we get most shots in our arms? What's the science behind why we get most vaccines in our arm and does location matter?
Muscles make an excellent vaccine (疫苗) administration site because muscle tissue contains important immune (免疫) cells. These immune cells recognize the antigen (抗原), a tiny piece of a virus or bacteria introduced by the vaccine that stimulates an immune response.
In the case of the COVID-19 vaccine, the immune cells in the muscle tissue pick up these antigens and present them to the lymph nodes (淋巴结). Injecting (注射) the vaccine into muscle tissue keeps the vaccine localized, allowing immune cells to sound the alarm to other immune cells and get to work. Once a vaccine is recognized by the immune cells in the muscle, these cells carry the antigen to lymph vessels, which transport the antigen-carrying immune cells into the lymph nodes.
Lymph nodes, key components of our immune system, contain more immune cells that recognize the antigens in vaccines and start the immune process of creating antibodies.
Croups of lymph nodes are located in areas close to vaccine administration sites. For instance, many vaccines are injected in the deltoid (三角肌) because it is close to lymph nodes located just under the armpit (腋下).
Muscle tissue also tends to keep vaccine reactions localized at the injection site. If certain vaccines are injected into fat tissue, the chance of irritation and side effect increases because fat tissue has poor blood supply, leading to poor absorption of some vaccine components. Vaccines must be given in a muscle to avoid widespread side effect.
Yet another deciding factor in vaccine administration location is the size of the muscle as well as convenience.

7 . One Day, an anthology film (多段式电影) about easily-hurt children chasing their dreams, held a press conference to announce its release data on Wednesday afternoon in Beijing.
Set for September 10th, One day consists of nine short stories each focusing on one special group of children, such as the blind, those with intellectual disabilities, children who have been kidnapped and those whose parents work far away.
Produced by Huayi Brothers, a leading film production company, record label and talent agency in China, the film is one of the few non-commercial films in China heading to big screens nationwide this year.
According to Sun Amei, the main initiator (发起人) behind the film and person in Charge of the Huayi Brothers Foundation, One Day took 350 staff working over 900 days to finish while the film’s 12 stars including Zhou Xun, Wang Qianyuan, Xu Fan and Siqin Caowa have forgone any payment for their appearance in the film.
Advance ticket sales have already begun, with tickets priced as low as 5 yuan (about $0.8). Wang Zhonglei, CEO of Huayi Brothers, explained that ticket prices only cover the price of screening the film in theaters and that neither Huayi nor cinemas will turn in a profit from the film.
“There are many platforms a film can be released on, but only the big screen has the biggest charm,” Wang said at the press conference. He added that the film was not to call for economic support, as many of these vulnerable children can make a living by themselves when they grow up. “But they lack attention and understanding from society.” Wang stressed.
Sun said that One Day will not be their last film, as the foundation is planning to continue making films about these often ignored children.
