Everybody gets sad from time to time. If you want to know how to cheer someone up, here are some easy steps to help you.
Listen to them. Usually, sad people aren’t really looking for an answer. They just want to be heard and have a chance to express their feelings. Do you know why they’re sad? Pull up a chair, offer a smile, and give them a shoulder to cry on.
After listening, give them advice if they ask for it. After figuring out just what the problem is, tell them you have an idea to help them out. If you don’t, be honest to yourself and them. Take them to a person who has a better fix for the problem than you have.
Give them a gift. Can you remember a time when someone gave you a gift without a duty to do so? How did you feel inside when it happened? Giving a gift to someone can brighten their whole day.
Make them laugh. Jokes and funny stories are always good ice-breakers after you’ve talked about a problem for a long time. Don’t be afraid to make fun of yourself. Your friend will appreciate the humor.
Change their environment. More often than not, our surroundings determine our moods. If you need to get someone out of his sadness, get them out! Having a different set of environment will encourage new and better ways of thinking.

6 . It seems as if social media platforms have taken over our lives. According to The Signal, there were 3.6 billion social media users in 2020.
Although social media platforms have helped to keep friends and family connected, there is also a dark side to social media. To put it simply, it is a money-making machine.
This is partially because of social media influencers. A social media influencer is someone “who can shape audience attitudes through blogs, tweets, and the use of other social media”.
You may be asking yourself, “Why would they want to do this, though?”
The answer is simple: to make money. Social media influencers make money by promoting brands and increasing brand awareness among their followers. This, in turn, gets them more deals with brands to promote more products and make more money.
The impact of social media and its influencers isn’t confined(局限) to the digital world.
Social media influencers are now being called out because some of their actions have started to negatively impact the environment.
One man in particular, who goes by Steve to remain anonymous(匿名的), noticed that some online influencers failed to follow rules when they went to national parks or public places. This included things like leaving garbage behind, going off the designated trail(指定的路线), or using drones(无人机) to take pictures from the sky.
Because of this, Steve made it his mission to stop social media influencers from hurting the environment with their bad behavior in order to get the “perfect shot”.
In 2018, he made the account “Public Lands Hate You” to name and shame influencers who failed to follow the rules made to protect the environment.
He hoped that it could help some influencers find the light and right their wrongs.

7 . Charles Ⅴ (1500-1558), Holy Roman Emperor, once said, “I speak Spanish to God, Italian to women, French to men and German to my horse.”
I first heard the Spanish language in 2017 while lining up to ride the London Eye. Two boys were murmuring (嘟囔) something in the sweetest language. I asked them what the language is, and they told me it was Spanish.
In the fall of the same year, I selected Spanish as a compulsory foreign language course throughout the next six years in my junior and senior high schools.
I had a burning desire and persistence to learn Spanish well. My interest and passion helped me succeed.
Spanish trills were quite difficult for me at the very beginning. I repeatedly tried to figure out where to place my tongue to pronounce perfect trills.
There is no easy short-term solution to master a foreign language. Spanish conjugations (动词变位) are much more complicated than English ones, so I practiced more. The cycle of learning, forgetting and memorizing continued.
Reaching milestones has always been important. I set up several goals for learning Spanish in 12 semesters. For example, I drew up a plan last winter to pass the DELE B2 test before graduating from my high school.
I usually split up my tasks into six sections — vocabulary, grammar, reading, listening, writing and oral practices. I regularly read Spanish books, recited(背诵) words and phrases, and kept on doing grammar exercises. I did listening exercises every day while showering or bathing. I wrote emails or letters to my Spanish friends as practice and took all opportunities to talk with my Spanish teachers and people I met online to enhance my oral Spanish.
I believe that success only comes with practice, patience and persistence. There’s no end to learning!
