文章大意:本文是记叙文。主要讲述了Heather Davis如何变肥胖和后来改变生活方式成功减肥的经历。

1 . Like many children, Heather studied hard, did her homework and played sports after school. During her elementary school years, she was thin, but things changed as she grew up.

“My bad eating habits began during my kid years,” says Healther Daivs. “In middle school, I played sports, but with a diet of hamburgers and soda for lunch…big family dinners…I became overweight.” During her senior year in high school, Heather Davis, who is 5 feet 9 inches tall, weighed 200 pounds. “We had a meat-and-potatoes family. I tried my best to stop gaining weight, but it seemed impossible.” remembers Healther Daivs. “It caught up with me.” By the time she was 21 and attended college, Heather Davis’ weight had increased to 250 pounds. Heather Davis says it was caused by emotional eating, a junk-food diet and lack of exercise.

The realization that failed diet led to the physical(身体的)cost of obesity(肥胖)made her decide to lose weight by taking exercise. She did gym exercise for two weeks and began changing her diet by cutting out potato chips, ice cream and pizza. Within the first two weeks, she had lost 18 pounds. Heather Davis remained determined, and over the next 12 months, with the support of her family and regular training with a gym trainer, she lost 110 pounds.

“My days of treating my body badly are over,” say Heather Davis. “I focus on things I enjoy such as language classes and beach vacations.” She says even though she’s lost 110 pounds, she’s still the same person-outgoing, and more importantly-happy. She’s also become a good example for those who also want to lose weight. “If I can do it, anybody can do it,” says Heather Davis.

4 . A plane black box or flight data recorder is the instrument that records the performance and condition of an aircraft in flight. There are two recorders in the plane and in the media, they are called black boxes, They play an important role in the investigation of plane accidents     1

The newer versions of the black boxes require storing a minimum of 25 hours of flight information. As for the voice recorder, it required recording a minimum of 2 hours of audio information.     2     Putting them there increased their chances of survival.

Contrary to popular belief, the black box is mostly bright orange, not black.     3     One theory is that early black boxes have been used on mail runs and military flights to store secret communications, Another guess is that it is black because it sits quietly.

The name “Black Boxes” may have originated in early engineering design philosophies, where boxes that contained electronic components were referred to as “black boxes” or possibly their original color was black.     4     The main reason is to help search and recovery teams to find the recorders. It’s easier to spot when searching an accident scene.

5     Made of a special metal, the plane box can operate without electricity for 30 days. In addition, it can withstand temperatures as high as 11,000℃. If this box is lost, it will continue to send signals for about 30 days. The investigators can identify the signals from a distance of roughly 2-3 kilometers.

A.How is the plane box made?
B.Then how can a black box play its role?
C.This is mainly because flights nowadays usually last long.
D.There are many assumptions about naming it a black box.
E.And both black boxes a usually fixed in the plane’s tail
F.So they must be in every aircraft whatever kind of aircraft it is
G.But why was the black color changed to orange?

For those “still on the fence” about getting vaccinated, Cherie Papizan, an internal medicine specialist at the hospital, shared this message: “I got vaccinated and millions have taken the step like I have and are doing fine. By getting vaccinated, you are also helping keep our hospitals and health care workers from becoming overwhelmed (压垮) with patients. There is peace of mind that comes with knowing you’ve done your part.”

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了支持保护森林的人——树木拥抱者,即我们今天的环保主义者。

8 .     1     They create carbon dioxide and shade. They provide shelter to animals and insects. The wood they provide is used for buildings and other products we humans use and need.

Trees are so important that some people have made it their goal to protect them. We can call these people ‌“tree hugger”. It describes people who support the protection of forests. Today, the term ‌“tree hugger” describes a person who is an environmentalist.     2     For example, someone who wants to save a rare butterfly species or cut greenhouse gases could also be described as a tree hugger.

However, calling someone a ‌“tree hugger” is not always seen as a praise.     3     ‌“Tree hugger” described someone who was overly concerned about protecting trees, animals and other parts of the natural world.

Some tree huggers do go to extremes to protect trees. Take, for example, an American woman named Julia Lorraine Hill. For 738 days from December 10, 1997 and December 18, 1999, Hill lived in Luna, a Redwood tree in northern California’s Humboldt County. Luna is huge, measuring nearly 61 meters tall and about 12 meters across, which has stood in Humboldt County for more than 1,000 years.     4     So, Hill did what any extreme tree hugger would—she moved in! As the website explains, Hill’s main goal was ‌“to bring international attention to the importance of protecting and restoring natural resources.” So, we can safely call Hill a tree hugger.     5

A.Trees give so much to the world.
B.Human beings should all protect trees.
C.In earlier times, in fact, it was used as an insult(辱骂).
D.And I’m sure that she would consider that the highest of praises.
E.They want to protect nature and the environment - but not just the trees.
F.Nowadays, the environmental problems are more serious than in the history.
G.But that did not stop the Pacific Lumber Company from wanting to cut it down.
