Everybody wants a healthy relationship with their dad. When your dad is happy with you, you’ll get the best treatment from him and most likely be happy too. It can be difficult to please your dad but it’s important to do so for a healthy family. By focusing on the way you interact with your dad, you can achieve a happy family relationship.
It can be difficult to spend time with your dad, especially during school days as your schedule is busy and your dad is at work. Making that extra effort to spend time with him and share your opinions and thoughts will strengthen the bond between you.
Take time to ask your dad about his youth, his dreams, his career, and his favourite memories. These are stories to cherish as you grow older. They might also help you understand his values.
Consider asking your dad for advice on school work or friendships or matters of finance (经济) if you have or are seeking a job. This will show him his opinion matters. Even if your dad doesn’t have experience with a certain situation, he can still give you advice on how to approach it or where you can best learn how to approach it.
Show affection (关爱).
Show your dad that you love him. Speak to him in caring words, in a warm tone of voice, or show him affection through hugs and kisses. Some dads don’t like being too affectionate and even you might find it strange to be physically affectionate. Know that caring human touch is a basic need.
A. Spend time with him
B. Ask him for advice
C. Show respect for him
D. Learn about his life

7 . Having an older brother comes with plenty of benefits. Big brothers tend to look after their younger brothers and sisters, and despite the occasional unpleasant moments here and there, many siblings(兄弟姐妹) enjoy life-long close relationships. However, a new study finds an interesting disadvantage. Children with older brothers take longer when it comes to developing language skills.
Researchers studied more than 1,000 children from birth to the age of five-and-a-half years old. Each child’s language skills were tested at ages 2, 3,and 5.5,using tests specially designed to measure lots of aspects of language development such as vocabulary, syntax(句法), and verbal(文字的)reasoning. What the research team discovered was significant. Children with an older brother had, on average, a two-month delay in their language development compared to studied children with an older sister.
As far as explaining this phenomenon(现象), researchers have proposed two assumptions. The first is that older sisters tend to talk more often than older brothers, which would compensate(补偿)for parents potentially being less present than they were for their first child. The second assumption is that older sisters usually compete with their siblings less than older brothers for their parents attention. The study’s authors say they can’t say for certain why children with older brothers have a harder time developing language skills. In the future they would like to study if culture or location impacts the prevalence(盛行)of these results.
The study is published in Psychological Science.

8 . A nine-year-old Indian girl Meaidaibahun Majaw said she came up with a way to solve the problem after it started to trouble her. “I experienced bullying (欺凌) in school since I was young. It affected me. I hated it so much that I was always thinking about how to deal with it. No other child should have to go through the same,” Majaw said.
The app, which would soon be available on Google Play, allows victims to report their bullies to teachers, parents, and friends secretly. “Users can provide details of the incidents, including the name of the bully, and send the messages to people concerned. This allows the authorities to take necessary actions.” Majaw explained.
Majaw was praised by state education minister Lakmen Rymbui. “I wish Majaw the best in her efforts to fight social ills. She will be a responsible citizen. I congratulate her parents, too, for guiding her,” Rymbui added. A 2017 survey found that 42 percent of kids in India were bullied in schools.
Dasumarlin Majaw, her mother, said that the girl had attended an app- development course in September last year, and learned the skills within a few months. “She would attend classes for an hour every day. Jeremy Savage aged 17, and Ian Marshall, aged 16, were close friends. They grew up together because their parents were friends, too. Every autumn, the two families would go together on a trip to the Rocky Mountains. This year, under the guidance of park workers, they camped on the hillside. After putting up the tents, the two boys announced to climb Cathedral Mountain by themselves next morning and promised to back before dusk.
Next morning, the boys set out with a backpack packed with food and water, the autumn breeze pinking their cheeks. Along the winding path, they glanced at a sea of colourful leaves spreading beneath their feet. As they got near to the top, the path was rocky and less-traveled. After three hours, they reached the top and enjoyed the beautiful view from the mountaintop. Lost in the breathtaking scenery, they felt refreshed from tiredness. How worthwhile the trip was!
Having got enough rest, Jeremy and Ian decided to climb down. Suddenly, trouble began. On one very dangerous part of the mountain, Ian fell three metres off the side of the path. Jeremy climbed down to where Ian was and found him badly injured and not able to move.
“Help!” Jeremy shouted. NO REPLY. “Help!Help!” Jeremy almost cried. But still no replies. If only I had brought my mobile phone in the bag, Jeremy mouthed, regretful and sad. Taking a deep breath, he tried to calm himself down. Then he noticed Ian was bleeding. So he cleaned the dirt and blood from Ian’s face and hands, and then tried to help Ian stand up, but Ian’s right leg was hurting too much. They had to wait and hope that help would come. While they waited for help, Jeremy gave Ian his food and water and let him lie on his jacket. Jeremy used an extra shirt to keep Ian warm and they rested together against a rock. However, as darkness started to fall, the weather turned cold and windy and help still didn’t arrive.
