3 . There are a lot of emotions, including anger. Anger can be a powerful emotion, and if not kept tame (驯服), it can quickly get out of control. You can damage and destroy relationships by letting your anger get the best of you.
Give yourself a timeout. If you find yourself getting upset and the anger is building, give yourself a timeout. Walk away from the situation, practice deep breathing techniques, calm yourself down, and relax.
Collect your thoughts. Before you just speak out the first thing that wants to come out of your mouth, take a few minutes to collect your thoughts.
Forgive. Practice forgiveness. When someone does something wrong to you, practice forgiving rather than getting upset.
The more you work at handling your anger, the more natural and easier it will be to keep calm. You will eventually find that you do not get upset and angry so quickly.

4 . At times, it might seem like teens want nothing to do with adults. But research from Independent School Health Check (ISHC) shows that the opposite is true. In 2007, we created ISHC, a computer-based survey, to more accurately assess the experience of adolescents in independent schools. The ISHC assesses students’ perceptions (认知), feelings, and behaviors regarding their schools, families, and friends as well as the risk and protective factors that affect their health and well-being. The survey assesses school attitudes and motivation, school pressure, parental supervision, social and emotional connections to adults and peers, substance use, sleep, and diet.
Over the past 11 years, the ISHC has collected data from 80,816 middle and high school students in 102 independent schools; most schools have conducted the survey multiple times. Schools that conduct surveys typically use the data to develop and fine-tune health and wellness programs, to identify areas that need attention, as well as areas of particular strength.
One area of inquiry for the ISHC is a student’s relationship with adults. The survey asks students to rate “the adult(s) who is primarily responsible for caring for them on a daily basis” on behaviors such as “expresses interest in my life,” “expects me to ask if I can go out,” and “supports my efforts in sports, music, or other activities.” The survey also asks students to rate their perceptions of teachers including statements such as “teachers at my school pay attention to my personal needs, not just academic performance,” and “my teachers treat me with respect.”
Over the years, we have been impressed by the high level of engagement that so many parents maintain, and by the extent to which so many students feel that their teachers support their personal needs as well as their academic needs.
Not all parents are supportive, however, nor do all students find encouraging adults in schools—perhaps because they were already wary (谨慎的) about trusting an adult. Nevertheless, when adolescents have an adult to talk with, there is benefit to both the student and to the school.

5 . When we think about pirates (海盗), there is a nearly universal image that comes to mind, which has been made to continue throughout pop culture. Pirates have developed quite the reputation for saying things such as “Shiver me timbers!” and “Arrr!” and for having a fake leg—maybe even sporting a parrot on their shoulder. This idea of pirates, both in the way they speak and the way they look, develops mostly from the popular novel Treasure Island and one of its movie adaptations. Unfortunately, it probably doesn’t have much bearing in reality.
Treasure Island was serialized in a magazine from October 1881 to January 1882 and published in a book form 1883. It was written by Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson under the pseudonym pen-name “Captain George North.” The novel follows teenager Jim Hawkins, who finds himself in possession of a map that leads to buried treasure. Sounds familiar, right? Jim leads the reader on a wild adventure, encountering pirates such as the one-legged Captain Long John Silver and Israel Hands, who want to take the treasure for themselves.
While the novel Treasure Island certainly influenced the way we think of pirates—and especially their imaginary tendency for burying treasure and marking it on secret maps—it’s the 1950 movie adaptation of the book, directed by Byron Haskin, that gave us the typical image of pirates and pirate talk. It’s in this movie where audiences first heard pirates employ words such as “matey” and say “arrrr” instead of “yes.” Long John Silver always has a parrot on his shoulder, and other pirates in the movie wear eye patches and have hooks for hands, bringing together some existing piratical stereotypes. Subsequent pirate films, from The Goonies (1985) to Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), show influence of the mannerisms, speech, and even costuming established by Treasure Island.

6 . I wore a rubber Arnold face for months in Terminator 2. Without prosthetics (假体), I’d say the resemblance between me and Arnold is pretty close.
But it wasn’t close enough for the studio. So when I did Terminator 2, I wore prosthetics to look more like him. Applying it took three or four hours every day, which added some money to my pocket, but it was extremely uncomfortable. If the skin was cut up, they’d simply glue right over it. I wore this thing for 66 continuous days. When we did the fight scene in the steel mill, I had to cut a hole near my eye because a cup of sweat ballooned out between the rubber and my face, and it was burning my eyes so I couldn’t see.
If you watch the tanker chase, you’ll see me with the Arnold mask, climbing from the pickup to the tanker. But only in the original cut. In the remastering (重新灌录), released to theaters this year, Jim went over and put Arnold’s face in digitally.
That jump from one truck to the other is a big step, and that throws your balance off — also, you’re going 60 mph with no wires holding you. So I took a wooden box and screwed it into the floor of the pickup to guide me. I took a bunch of finishing nails and hammered them up from the underside so the points went up. I was wearing big motorcycle boots with a thick bottom, so my first step onto the nails gave me a good solid grip.
Right before shooting this, Jim said, “We’re going to have lunch and then do this.” It was 4:00 in the morning, I obviously wasn’t hungry, so I said I’d really like to do it right now. So Jim just grabbed his bullhorn and said, “OK, we’re calling grace for lunch,” which means they push lunch back and the crew of 300 gets paid extra.
Jim said, “Peter, if you pull this off, I’ll give you the brass balls award.” Later on, he said he’d never do that stunt (特技) today. It was much too dangerous.
