6 . 阅读下面短文,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

My uncle is a successful businessman. One day, he invited me to have a dinner with one of his clients (客户) to discuss about future cooperation between them, during which he received a call. Then to everyone’s shock, he asked the waiter to check out and put an end to the trade with the client. I felt very confused. After all, it was a deal of one billion. When we got home together, he solved my doubt and told me a story about an expensive “school fee” he had paid for his dishonesty.

It was 15 years ago when he decided to return to his homeland to start a company after having got a PhD degree. Before leaving the country where he had studied for 5 years, he bought himself a Rolex watch with the savings made through years of part-time jobs and the scholarships he had got. At the airport, as was often the case, he had to accept the custom check. Of course, the watch on his wrist was on the list of things to be checked. Remembering that carrying things like this should pay some tax and worried about paying for his watch, he lied to the custom officer, “My watch is only a worthless fake (假货).”

“OK. I see.” said the custom officer and at the same time, in the presence of my uncle, he began to hit the watch heavily. “No!” Before my uncle woke up from his “smart”, the watch which cost nearly ¥100,000 had changed into pieces. “Why?” Shocked and not knowing the reason, my uncle was taken to the office for further examination.

Without finding any suspicious items, the officer let him go but warned, “Never use or carry the fake again, or you will be fined according to the law.”

My uncle continued, “Now, you see, my secretary called me saying the client used the fake to trade with X company one month ago. Such a dishonest man doesn’t have the qualification to cooperate with me.”

注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;

7 . Get Inspired to Work Out This Fall

As fall approaches, a lot of people make resolutions to exercise more and improve their physical condition. However, most of the time, these objectives are quickly forgotten and daily habits are resumed.     1     Here are some ideas for maintaining your motivation to work out frequently.

Joining a sports team is one of the best methods to maintain your commitment to fitness and your motivation. Sports teams are a terrific way to stay active and to improve your health.     2     Being a member of a sports team has many bonuses, one of which is having a uniform to wear and be proud of, especially if you win any prestigious matches or competitions.

3     When trying to reduce weight, it can take a while to see any changes, but there are other things you can keep an eye on before you look in the mirror. Simple things to remember are how long it takes you to complete a 5-kilometre run, and how much weight you’re carrying when working out. You will see improvement as you perform tasks more quickly and lift larger weights.

Another option is to work with a personal trainer.     4     They will be able to assist you through the proper form of exercise to ensure that you’re doing it safely. Since they are authorities in their industry, they can guide you to the destination of your choice and are well qualified to do so.

Taking care of your body is another technique to maintain your motivation for exercise. You may improve your general health by paying more attention to your eating habits, stress, and anxiety. You are more likely to desire to work out and exercise if you take care of yourself in all facets of your life. Simple adjustments can be made, such as your diet planning.     5

A.They can give you a sense of community as well.
B.To exercise frequently, I treat it like a trip to the doctor.
C.They will do everything in their power to maintain your goal.
D.To prevent boredom, try to keep things interesting and varied.
E.If you don’t want to try a team sport, you can learn something new.
F.Only if you make the exercise a habit will you be able to do it every day.
G.If you want to exercise frequently, keep track of everything you’ve done to date.

8 . Although it has been 15 years since Katherine Quirk had an infant to feed, she remembers how it felt to struggle to find something you need for your baby.

Watching the news, the nurse manager and mom of three grew increasingly alarmed by the infant baby formula (婴儿奶粉)shortage happening across the United States. She noticed many moms putting out cries for help on the Internet, because they couldn’t find a particular brand of formula their child needs. She knew she had to do something to help.

Katherine has always been a helper. Back in 2021, she and her husband made a group web page to help senior citizens get appointments for their COVID-19 vaccine. She has seen firsthand how powerful social media can be to unite people towards a common goal, so she started a new web page for parents seeking baby formula.

The South Florida Baby Formula Info Group is a resource for parents to share pictures of the formula supply at local stores, swap and sell extra formula, and help each other get through the formula shortage. Katherine solved the discussions on the group to help parents find much needed formula.

The group now has over 900 members, all of whom are working in the Palm Beach, Florida area to support one another and keep their babies fed. “The overall vibe (氛围) is very positive,” Katherine said. “Moms help other moms. Caregivers lend a hand and offer up unused formula to a mom who has a need. Exchanges happen between parents if perhaps a sample was received that is not needed.”

Katherine displays true leadership qualities! She urges other people to start groups of their own if they see a need in their community. She acknowledges that it does take “time and effort” to run a social media web page, but says, “If it helps even one person then it’s worth it.”

1. What caught Katherine Quirk’s great concern recently?
A.Parents’ struggle to feed more babies.B.The national shortage of baby formula.
C.Some families’ increasing cost of living.D.The unqualified baby formula in America.
2. What did Katherine learn from her previous web page?
A.The suffering of senior citizens.B.The importance of setting a goal.
C.The significance of social media.D.The difference good actions made.
3. What did Katherine think of the members of Baby Formula Info Group?
A.Strict and responsible.B.Friendly but stubborn.
C.Considerate and helpful.D.Ambitious and generous.
4. What is the best title of the text?
A.Moms helping momsB.A mom showing leadership
C.A web page for babiesD.Parents seeking baby formula
