Caring about others and being ready to help are traditional Chinese moral virtues. In the West, there are many people doing good deeds and reminding us of the power of giving.

As a six-year-old Canadian schoolboy, Ryan had trouble believing the words spoken by his teacher that many people in developing African countries couldn’t get enough clean water. At first, he cleaned windows and did gardening for his family to earn money to build a single well in Africa.     1    . (但瑞安很快明白，他们需要的是在他们家附近挖一口井。)

Later, Ryan was determined to help other children have clean water.     2     (他开始向同学和邻居寻求帮助，并说服他们捐款。) After several months, Ryan had raised the $2,000, with which a well was built near a primary school in Uganda.

Finally, in Uganda, Ryan saw the finished well with his own eyes and a great warmth filled him. He really had made a difference for these children. Ryan’s experience led him to set up a foundation to encourage more people to help.     3     (他的基金会筹集的资金用于支持非洲的学校和社区。)

Now, as an adult, Ryan says that the question to ask is not “Why don’t I help?”, but “How can I help today?”. He is really a six-year-old boy who had the courage and perseverance to make his dream a reality.     4     (他真的是一个有勇气和毅力使梦想成真的六岁男孩。)
