文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了如何在新学校交朋友。

1 . How to Make Friends at a New School

Starting with a new school can be difficult. Everything seems to be different, and you don’t even know where to go for your own classes.     1     However, if you use these skills, you can quickly turn some of those strangers into friends.

Be yourself

2     If some people don’t accept you, they’re not the kind of friends you need. People often stay together because they have similar interests. For example, someone who does a lot of sports may make friends with those who also run or swim a lot.

    3

Remember to be nice to the people you meet at your new school. If you think that you will say something that may make them feel sad, do not say anything and just nod your head if they talk to you. Also, remember to be as helpful as possible!

Believe in yourself

A smile goes a long way. When you walk in the halls, don’t keep your eyes on the floor. Raise your head and make eye contact with other people.     4     Introduce yourself. Tell them your name and where you’re from.

Remember people’s names

You like it when people use your name, and so do other people.     5     Besides, ask them in a kind way if they have a nickname. You’d be surprised how often this may come in handy.

A.Be friendly to others.
B.Making new friends can be hard, too.
C.Join after-school activities like
D.Never change what you are to try and fit in.
E.If you see someone you know, smile or say “Hi”.
F.People may become angry if you just begin by saying ”Hey“ each time.
G.Don ‘t sit at the back of the classroom where other people don’t notice you!

Both of my parents worked full-time when I was a little girl, so my grandmother would stay at our house during the day. We would watch game shows in the living room. Our favorite was The Price is Right. We would call out our answers along with the players.

When I got older and started going to school, we couldn't watch our game shows regularly. That was okay with me, though, because the one thing I liked better than watching game shows with my grandmother was helping bake. Watching her in the kitchen was amazing: she never seemed to need the recipes but everything she made tasted delicious.

At first I would just sit in the kitchen and watch, even though I didn’t understand what she was doing. As I got older, she let me help with the easy parts, such as measuring the sugar. The day she let me separate the eggs. I felt like I had found complete pleasure.

At last. my parents decided that I could take care of myself, and my grandmother stopped coming over every day. The love of baking, however, stayed with me. I started baking by myself, and even if the cookies ended up being burnt sometimes, more often they turned out pretty well. I tried out new recipes, and whenever I got to a thorny part. I would call my grandmother for advice. Sometimes I would call her just to talk, too. I felt like I could talk to her about anything.

My grandmother passed away ten years ago, but I still think of her every day, Last week, I found a recipe book she made for me. It included her recipes for brownies, cookies, and my favorite, lemon pie stout anything. As I looked through the pages, I thought I could hear her voice. She was the one who taught me not just about baking, but about life.

文章大意:这是一篇记叙文。这篇文章讲述了作者的爸爸在他六岁的时候去世了,在他以后的人生中,他的哥哥史蒂夫教了很多非常有价值的经验教训给他,帮助他很好的成长。

3 . My elder brother Steve, in the absence of my father who died when I was six, gave me important lessons in values that helped me grow into an adult. For instance, Steve taught me to face the results of my behavior. Once when I returned in tears from a Saturday baseball game, it was Steve who took the time to ask me what happened. When I explained that my baseball had soared through Mrs. Holt’s basement window, breaking the glass with a crash, Steve encouraged me to confess (认罪) to her. After all, I should have been playing in the park down Fifth Street and not in the path between buildings. Although my knees knocked as I explained to Mrs. Holt, I offered to pay for the window from my pocket money if she would return my ball. I also learned from Steve that personal property is a sacred (神圣的) thing. After I found a shiny silver pen in my fifth-grade classroom, I wanted to keep it, but Steve explained that it might be important to someone else in spite of the fact that it had little value. He reminded me of how much I’d hate to lose to someone else the small dog my father carved from a piece of cheap wood. I returned the pen to my teacher, Mrs. Davids, and still remembered the smell of her perfume as she patted me on my shoulder. Yet of all the instructions Steve gave me, his respect for life is the most vivid in my mind. When I was twelve I killed an old brown sparrow in the yard with a BB gun. Excited with my accuracy, I screamed to Steve to come from the house to take a look. I shall never forget the way he stood for a long moment and stared at the bird on the ground. Then in a dead, quiet voice, he asked, “Did it hurt you first, Mark?” I didn’t know what to answer. He continued with his eyes firm, “The only time you should even think of hurting a living thing is if it hurts you first. And then you think a long, long time.” I really felt terrible then, but that moment stands out as the most important lesson my brother taught me.

1. What is the main subject of the passage?
A.The relationship between Mark and Steve.

C.Steve’s important role in Mark’s growing process.
D.Mark and Steve’s respect for living things.
2. It can be inferred from the passage that when Mark confessed to Mrs. Holt, ________.
A.he felt surprisedB.he was light-hearted

A.Respect for personal property.
B.Respect for life.
C.Sympathy for people with problems.
D.The value of honesty.
4. According to the writer, which was the most important lesson Steve taught his young brother?
A.Respect for living things.
B.Responsibility for one’s actions.
C.The value of the honesty.
D.Care for the property of others.
5. Which of the follow is true according to the passage?
A.Mark was still a boy when he wrote this passage.
B.Mark lost the small dog his father gave him.
C.When a living thing hurts you, you should kill it.

6 . There are three different kinds of friends in our life. I classify (分类) them according to how well I know them and how well they know me.

The first type of friend is just an acquaintance (熟人). This means that you only know their name. You might not even remember what they look like if you go away for a short vacation. You don’t miss them when they are elsewhere. It is also this type of friend who gives you the most amount of aggravation (恼怒). Since most of the time you are placed in a position where you have to act friendly, you would not normally tell an acquaintance when he or she is doing something that makes you feel angry, such as tapping the fingers on a table or shouting loudly. I call them “pest friends”.

The second kind of friend is a “guest friend”. They are just social partners. You meet them at a certain location and at the end of the meeting you go your separate way and they go theirs. You don’t talk too often with this sort of friend, and you don’t share each other’s secrets.

Lastly, we have “best friends”. This sort of friend is there when you need them. They know you as a person and they are there through thick and thin. Best friends are the ones that you can lean and depend on no matter what happens. If you need a listening ear, they will be the one to lend support.

Friends come in all different shapes and sizes. Every friend has an impact on our life. . .

1. According to the writer, when a friend of the first type acts in an annoying way, you .
A.can tell him/her about it directly
B.should stay away from him/her
C.should advise him/her to correct his/her behavior

2. Which of the following statements is WRONG about the second type of friend?
A.They are only social partners.
B.You don’t talk very often with them.
C.You don’t share your secrets with them.
D.They are called “pest friends” by the writer.
3. If someone is with you through thick and thin, it means .
A.he/she is your friend for sure
B.he/she agrees with whatever you say
C.you spend most of your time together
D.he/she is with you even when there are difficulties
4. What will most probably be talked about in Paragraph 5?
A.How to make friends.
B.How friends influence our life.
C.How to improve friendship.
D.How to get along well with the third type of friend.
5. What is this passage mainly about?
A.What a true friend is like.
B.Three kinds of friends in our life.

8 . How to Choose Friends

The word “friend” as well as its meaning is the one that can be related to all generations, age groups, and all types of people.     1     During teenage years when we begin to move around in a social circle of our own, and come across different people, we get to know them, spend more time with them and one day they become our friends.

Then how does a teenager choose his or her friends wisely? You can’t call every building in town your “home”.     2     Every person you meet isn’t a friend; many may just be like “ships that pass in the night”.

3     Choose friends who have thoughts similar to yours, who reflect(反映)your family values, who think the way you do. The company we keep both reflects and helps determine the kind of people we become. So if you want to be more brave, choose a friend who is brave.

4     Friends do have an influence on your present habits and new habits that you may develop. It’s important to have friends who are similar to you, but it’s equally important to have friends with different kinds of qualities that will lead you to positive(积极的)growth.     5

Above all, choose friends you can trust.

A.Friends influence you.
B.Friends mirror each other.
C.It’s the same with friendship.
D.Friends quarrel with each other.
E.Then your friends will make that happen to you.
F.Whether you’ re young or old, you need friends to survive.
G.If you are easy to get angry, choose a friend who has a cool head.
