1 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

One day, when I was a first-year student in high school, I saw a kid from my class walking home from school. His name was Kris. It looked like he was carrying all of his books. I thought to myself, “Why would anyone bring home all his books on a Friday? He must really be a nerd (书呆子).”

I had quite a weekend planned (parties and a football game with my friends), so I shrugged my shoulders and went on. As I was walking, I saw a gang of kids running toward him. They ran at him, knocking all his books out of arms and tripping him so he landed in the dirt. His glasses went flying, and I saw them land in the grass about ten feet from him. He looked up, and I saw terrible sadness in his eyes.

My heart went out to him. So I jogged over to him, and as he crawled around looking for his glasses, I saw tears in his eyes. As I handed him his glasses, I said, “They are bad guys! They really should be punished.” He looked at me and said, “Hey, thanks!” There was a big smile on his face. It was one of those smiles that showed real gratitude.

I helped him pick up his books and asked him where he lived. As it turned out, he lived near me, so I asked him why I had never seen him before. He said he had gone to a private school before. I would have never hung out with a private school kid before, but we talked all the way home, and I carried his books.

3 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

As I sat by the window of our schoolhouse that afternoon, my heart began to sink further with each passing car. This was a day I had been looking forward to for weeks. Miss Pace had kept a running countdown on the blackboard, and our class had almost gone crazy by the time the much-anticipated “party Friday” had arrived.

I had happily volunteered my mother when Miss Pace requested cookie volunteers. Mom’s chocolate chips were the best on our block, and I knew they would be a hit with my classmates. But two o'clock passed, and there was no sign of her. Most of the other mothers had already come and gone, dropping off their offerings of dessert. My mother was missing in action.

“Don’t worry, Robbie. She’ll be along soon,” Miss Pace said as I looked sadly at the street. I looked at the wall clock just in time to see its black minute hand shift to half past two.

Around me, the noisy party went on, but I wouldn’t leave my window watch post. Miss Pace did her best to comfort me, but I just stayed there, holding out hope that the familiar family car would appear, carrying my embarrassed mother with a tin of her famous cookies under her arm.

The three o'clock bell soon awoke me from my thoughts and I sadly grabbed my schoolbag and headed home.

On the four-block walk, I plotted my revenge (报复). I would slam the front door upon entering, refuse to return her hug when she rushed over to me, and never speak to her again.

The house was empty when I arrived and I looked for a note on the refrigerator that might explain my mother’s absence, but found none. Heartbroken and angry, I was lying face-down on my bed upstairs when I heard her come through the front door and mount the steps.

When she entered my room and sat beside me on my bed, I didn’t move but instead stared blankly into my pillow, refusing to acknowledge her presence.

4 . 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

He was fifteen years old and still on his father's farm. He loved his father. He had not known it until one day a few days before Christmas, when he had overheard what his father was saying to his mother. “Mary, I hate to call Rob in the mornings. He's growing so fast and he needs his sleep. If you could see how he sleeps when I go in to wake him up! I wish I could manage alone.”

“Well, you can't, Adam.” His mother's voice was brisk, “Besides, he isn't a child anymore. It's time he took his turn to help milk the cow.”

“Yes,” his father said slowly. “But I sure do hate to wake him.”

When he heard these words, something in him spoke: his father loved him! He had never thought of it before, taking the tie of their blood for granted. Now that he knew his father loved him, he got up, stumbling blind with sleep and pulled on his clothes.

And then on the night before Christmas, that year when he was fifteen, he lay for a few minutes thinking about the next day. He wished he had a better present for his father instead of the usual tie from the ten - cent store. He lay on his side and looked out of his attic window.

A thought struck him like a silver dagger. Why should he not give his father a special gift, out there in the barn (畜棚)? He could get up early, earlier than four O'clock, and he could creep into the barn and get all the milking done. He laughed to himself as he gazed at the stars. It was what he would do, and he mustn't sleep too soundly.

My little sister, Donna, turned six, and she started copying my every move!

“What are you doing?” she asked my friend Maya and me one Saturday morning.

“We're making earrings,” Maya said, pointing to a photo in the craft page of her magazine.

Donna plopped (扑通) down next to us at the table. “May I make one too?”“ Um...”I paused.

“Sure!” Maya said. Donna squeezed in so close to me that I could hardly see what I was doing.

“Can you give me a little more room? You are blocking me from the beads.” I said.

“I'm just trying to see what you're doing.” Donna said.

“Well, you don't need to see exactly what I'm doing.” I told her. “You can make your own design.”

“I am!” she said. She was using the same colors of beads and string and everything that I was using.

Having finished the earrings, Maya suggested we get her guitar to make up songs for our band.

“Excellent idea!” I said. “Let's go to the backyard where we can have some privacy.”

When Donna didn't say anything, I thought she must have gotten the clue. But 10 minutes later, she showed up.

“Sorry I'm late, but I couldn't find my tambourine (铃鼓).” said Donna. “It was in the basket that my kitten

Charlie was sleeping in. Isn't that so funny? Maybe, we should invite Charlie to be in our band!”

“Our band?” I said. “Since when is this our band? You're constantly following me like a shadow, and I'm tired of it.”

7 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。

I remember the first time I met Roy. He was telling a joke. When he reached the final line, everyone burst out laughing. “A popular boy,” I thought to myself. My name is Daniel. I was the new boy in the class. There were 33 students in my new class, and most people weren’t very interested in a shy new boy. Roy was kind to me. He often invited me to join his particular group and we became good friends. We trusted each other and we could talk about personal matters.

Five years later, Roy and I were still in the same class. But just a year ago Roy’s father was knocked over by a car. He died a few days later. The family had difficulty with finance. Roy changed completely. He started losing friends, including me.

About three months ago, a group of us were playing football together after school. Having left something in the classroom, I went inside to get it and found Roy going through the pockets of people’s coats. In his hand he had a wallet and I knew it wasn’t his. Roy went bright red. “I will put it back right now,” he said, and he did so. I turned round and walked out without saying a word. I really hoped that Roy would explain why he had been stealing, but instead he started avoiding me.

Last week, our school had a big fair in order to raise money for a charity and we made about £500. But to our surprise, the next morning, we were told that the money had been stolen. This morning I decided to ask Roy about the theft so I went to see him. Roy was out. I put his jacket on and put my hands in the pockets. I could feel a lot of notes and I pulled them out. It looked as if there were about £500 there. I was so surprised that I just stood there, holding the notes in my hand. And that moment, Roy walked in.

A Gift I Treasure

It was just a week before my seventeenth birthday. Party preparations had started. My family never celebrated birthdays on such a grand scale. However, this was a double celebration. I had a passed A level examination with flying colors and my parents thought this was an occasion to celebrate.

The whole house was full of activities. Complete cleaning had started a week before. There was a continuous work in and out as everyone went about doing their share of the work. Mama, who was the chief event organizer, was busy planning the budget and the menu. Papa was in charge of paying for the different purchases. My siblings (兄弟姐妹) were busy sending out the invitations. Even Grandpa, who enjoys watching his favorite Cable TV from the comfort of his armchair, did not want to be left out. He made numerous trips to town to run errands (跑腿) for Mama.

Grandpa and I shared a special bond. Perhaps it was because I was his oldest grandchild. He was always there for me and he would offer me his shoulder to cry on whenever I was depressed. He seemed to be the happiest man to celebrate my birthday and he even secretly whispered to my ear that he was going to give me a great gift on that day.

Two days before my birthday, Grandpa complained of chest pains. We rushed him to the hospital but he refused to be admitted. He was given a lot of medicine instead. When he came home, he remained in his room. Whenever I went into his room, he managed a smile. I could see that he was very tired. The corners of his mouth and eyes had numerous wrinkles while the skin on his skinny limbs had shriveled. I felt a stab of pain in my heart each time I saw him.

9 . Directions: Read the following passage.Summarize in no more than 60 words the main idea of the passage and how it is illustrated.Use your own words as far as possible.

Family Disputes and Arguments

There may be nothing worse than slammed doors, raised voices and tears but, according to new research,it's actually a good idea for parents who want to be close to their teenage children to have a row(吵架)a day.

Instead of causing alienation(疏远),conflict can strengthen parent-adolescent relationships, says Tabitha Holmes,a specialist in adolescent development.“It was a complete surprise to me to discover during my research that teenagers themselves saw heated arguments as something that brought them closer to their parents,'said Holmes.“While their parents talked about how upsetting and destructive arguing with their child was,the adolescents were able to see how arguments helped   them to understand their parents' points of view more clearly.

They were also very aware that a good row forced them to think through, express and defend their opinions and desires.'According to Holmes,it is the day-to-day conflicts-the very ones that can be so draining-—that are most constructive:the endless rows over homework, clothes and friends. It's vital for conflicts to be heated: calm discussion or animated debate does not count.‘Adolescents said they only told their mothers what they really felt and thought when they were forced to defend their position.'

“If your teenager is rowing with you,it's actually a mark of respect,'Holmes said.“It shows they value you enough to tell you their genuine feelings and thoughts.'To be positive, conflicts have to be handled in the right way,Holmes admitted.Parents need to listen genuinely to their teenager's viewpoint;it's necessary for them to be able to modify their own position in the light of what their child tells them;and they need to be respectful,to go into the row acknowledging that their child's point of view is worthwhile.

Yumi stood at the door of the cabin (小屋).She watched black clouds roll across the sky. "This has been an awful vacation, she said to Mei. “We've been in this cabin all week because of this rain. Then I wanted to go into town with Mom and Dad today, but you got sick."

"I couldn't help it,"   Mei cried.

Yumi didn't listen to her. “My friend Sue is lucky. She's an only child. She never has to miss out on things because of a little sister,"   she said.

With an angry click, she turned on the radio. “Word is just in,"   a man said. “There is a chance of a flash flood in Green Valley. The water in Copper Lake has reached the top of the dam. The dam could give way at any time. People in Green Valley are in danger. They should move to high ground right away. "

“Should we leave?” Mei asked.

“No, Mom and Dad will be home soon. I don't want to leave until they get here, ” Yumi answered.

Yumi was upset. Every past year she loved their vacations in Green Valley. But this year the rain spoiled(毁掉)everything. The sky grew darker. Heavy rain beat against the windows, and thunder shook the cabin. "Yumi, I'm scared," Mei said. “What if the dam breaks?”

“It won't," Yumi said. She hoped Mei believed her. Yumi didn't want Mei to know how scared she was.

The radio stopped in the middle of a song. A man came on the air talking loud and fast. “The Copper Lake Dam has broken. Everyone in Green Valley must move to high ground NOW!”

Yumi's heart raced. "Let's get out of here!” she cried. She took Mei's arm and pulled her outside. They could hear a terrible roar(咆哮)coming from the far end of the valley. Yumi and Mei dashed up the muddy road behind their cabin. The thundering roar grew louder. Yumi looked back. The wall of water was coming faster. It seemed to be swallowing all of Green Valley. In another minute it would hit them.
