Once in a village lived a young sculptor (雕刻师), who used to make very beautiful statues and by this he earned a good income.
He had a son who started making statues from his childhood, and his son could make good statues. Father would be happy with his son's work but every time he would point out one or other mistakes in his son's work,
Still his son never complained and continued to improve his work, following the advice of his father. Because of Son's continuous improvement, his work started becoming better than his father's. Then came a time when people started to pay more money for his statues than his father's.
Son got young and was earning better but his father continued to point out mistakes in his son's work. Now Son didn't like it. He couldn't accept his shortcoming and didn't work wholeheartedly.
Then one day, Son lost his patience and said, “You are pointing out my mistakes as if you were a big sculptor. But if that's the case then your statues would have sold at higher price than mine. I don't think I need your advice anymore. My statues are perfect.”
After that day, Father stopped giving any advice or pointing out any mistakes in his statues.
For some months Son was happy but then he realized that people didn't praise his work as they used to. The price of his statues also started to fall.

Several times that day, Lily had asked her mother for permission to go out and play. The rain had prevented her from going out. She had asked her mother to play and watch cartoons with her. Each time, her mother was too busy with things she had to do. The mother felt guilty, and realized the little girl in the drawing was her daughter’s self-portrait. So she walked into the living room.

I couldn’t believe it. She never called my idea “stupid” before. “Then I will build mine and you build yours, and we’ll just see whose is better.”
“Fine!” Cassie stormed out. And just like that, our friendship was smashed, like an egg dropped from the top of a stadium without marshmallow cream to protect it.
When Friday arrived, I saw Cassie’s Egg Force One. She had a handkerchief to create a small parachute. It was tied to a basket and, in the center of it, her egg.
My Egg-cellent Egg Cream didn’t look quite scientific. I used a layer of marshmallow cream and a layer of jelly (果冻) to support the egg.
The competition started. Everyone in my class carried their egg containers up three stadium steps and dropped them over the side wall. If your egg broke, you were out. If the egg survived, you had to walk up three more steps and drop it again. This went on until the last egg broke.
By the fourth launch, only Cassie and I were left.

It seemed as if their time together wasn’t as important to Zatanna considering the fact that she had called her a few minutes ago to tell her that she wouldn’t be able to keep her promise. Obviously, her other friends dragged her awayfor a weekend.
Emily tried to take a deep breath even though there was an invisible heavy weight around her heart. She hated to act like someone who was eager for attention, so she just laughed off their plans in front of Zatanna and made a half-hearted attempt to reschedule them. She sat down heavily in her chair and opened her books. “Might as well get some studying done,” she thought.
For the next couple of days, she didn’t get any texts or calls from Zatanna. Her calls went straight to voicemail and her texts were unread. She started to get worried. Zatanna never ignored her calls, Even if she was busy, she still responded, though a bit hastily (草率地). Emily didn’t think much of this and reasoned that she must have been busy with her new friends.
After a few more days of no contact with Zatanna, she felt anxious and thought of the worst-case scenario. She shook her head as if she could physically let those dark thoughts go. “I’ll visit her professor,” she thought with a determined shake of her head.

Not everyone is lucky and can claim that they share a great relationship with their own parents. As you age, your points of view on life may greatly differ from those of your parents. Due to the generation gap, there is a huge possibility of misunderstandings between parents and children. All these can lead to conflicts. So what can you do to get along well with your parents as a teenager?
First, make sure that your behavior is responsible and mature. Carry out the duties your parents have assigned to you. If you complete your daily chores on time, you will realize your parents don't blame you so much! Don't go out of the way to do something which your parents have forbidden you from doing.
As you enter your mid-teens, you will realize you want to be independent, from choosing what to eat for breakfast, to buying your clothes, and making new friends. This change is going to cause a conflict between you and your parents. Keep in mind that parents will not agree to your decisions right away. You will feel you have controlling parents, and that there is no way out of the situation. To avoid further conflicts, talk to them. Hear them out. It's the best way to solve a lot of problems. My parents were deaf, so I grew up living in two worlds, our private world and the “hearing” world outside. Unlike my mother, my father was deaf because of the fever when he was at school age. Even so, Daddy Ben was undefeated. He transformed pain into humor. “It is better to laugh at life,” he'd say. “It makes easier a hard time.” I began to understand what he meant one evening when my mother signaled to me to phone a message to my father at the shop where he worked. I went to a pay phone nearby and dialed the number.

“Why do you let your boss call you Dummy?” I asked my father the next day.
He shrugged. “It is easier for them. They remember me.”
I was angry. “You are not a dummy. You are a smart man. Tell them your name is Benjamin.”
He smiled. “It is all right. I know I am not dummy. I listen with my eyes and that is enough.” Locked in stillness, he was pleased with himself. But I was not.
Dummy, I wrote the hateful word many times in my notebook, tore out the page and crumpled it into a ball. My father saw my anger. “Don't worry,” he said in a harsh voice. “I will improve my speaking every day. I will learn new words, and you, Ruth, are my teacher. You are my dictionary. And don't waste your sweet voice. Ask your teachers if you have questions.” I hugged him.

I took my time because it was always a big decision. It was nice to feel so rich for a few minutes.
Looking back now I can see that the real treasure wasn't the coin at all. It was the love with which Nanny gave it to me. I would have still visited her at work every day if I had never gotten a single coin. It was her smile, hugs, and kisses that were priceless in my heart then and now.
