2 . I am a medical student from Zimbabwe, studying at Gannan Medical University. 5 . The popularity of Facebook has caused a shift in how people realize themselves: the “like” button has become nothing more than a self-esteem (自尊) booster.     1     It can take years and years, but there are shortcuts you can use to achieve it.

    2     You’re not arrogant (自大的) if you love yourself. In fact, arrogance is often the foundation of low self-esteem and insecurity. Try this exercise: stand in front of the mirror and tell your reflection everything you love about yourself. Accept what you don’t like about yourself. This may feel uncomfortable at first, but change often does.

Do you socialize with negative people?     3     This may seem unfair, but those negative people will simply strengthen what you don’t like about yourself. People like to socialize with happy, positive people. The happiest people in life are the ones that look at what they have, not what they don’t have.

There are a lot of people who aren’t aware they have a negative voice in their head.

    4     Whenever you hear a negative comment, immediately replace it with a positive one. Your brain is like a computer: whatever command you input, it responds, so if you ask it a question like “why do I always mess up?” your brain will find plenty of examples to support it.

Celebrating your successes is another good way. We’re often so busy in life that we seldom take the time to stop and really reflect on what we’ve achieved. Take the time once a day to ask yourself what you’re proud of having achieved that day.     5     Remember that it’s not the outcome that’s always important, but the process.

6 . We might look different and speak different languages, but most of us, especially the young ones, love sweets! One day we _________ one of the 15,000 orphan(孤儿)-led houses in Swaziland. Inside the _________ we found a beautiful little girl with huge brown eyes, Tanzile. I gave her a sweet from my bag and she said something in the _________ language. The nurse next to me _________: “She wants another one, doctor, to give to her little sister.” I said “_________” and gave her another.

Later that day, we passed by Tanzile’s house to say goodbye. To our _________ she seemed to be holding on to that _________ sweet I had given her. I thought she was _________ and had taken two for herself. But after the _________ had asked her some more questions, this is what we learned:

Tanzile is 7 now. Two years ago her parents __________ in the disaster. At the time of her parents’ death, she __________ her baby sister, who was three at the time, and has never seen her. But ever since that time, whenever Tanzile __________ anything from anyone, she refuses to accept it, __________ they give her two. In fact, in the little mud hut where she lives, we found a pile of old things which she has been __________to give to her sister one day.

I can still remember the nurse trying to __________ her that “ Tanzile, if someone gives you food, you must accept it, __________ it is only one piece and not two - for your own __________ and safety.” And it was so __________ for us to keep the tears from our eyes as she shook her head __________

8 . My father passed away on March 21, 2010 in Calgary after a brief journey with cancer. I loved my father so much, and we were very_______. We traveled together and talked on the phone at least twice a day. His death has_______a forever pain in my heart.

One day_______ I arrived back home from walking outdoors I sat on the front step, thinking about my Dad and feeling quite_______.Within a minute or so, I_______and saw a butterfly on the other side of the fence. It rested on a rock while I________it. When I got up to continue walking it followed me down the________. I took a picture of it as some people didn’t________me when I said I saw a butterfly at that time of year.

The next day I walked on the path again________to meet the butterfly once more. Within moments of thinking about my Dad the same type appeared.________, this time it joined up with two more before they all flew away.

I feel it might have been a(n)________from my Dad saying he was with his Mom and Dad and he was okay. Those________helped me feel comforted when I needed it the most.

9 . If you are someone who suffers from exam anxiety (焦虑), know that you aren’t alone. There are things that you can do to try and reduce this.

Simply being aware of what is causing your anxiety can help to lessen exam anxiety. Take some time to think about what could be causing your anxiety.     1    

Most of the time, the key to reducing exam anxiety is preparedness. Make an early start on your revision. Starting six weeks before the examination is recommended.     2     Take enough time to do yourself justice.

Revision is about revisiting things you have previously learned, not teaching yourself a new topic.     3     Let’s say you struggle with English and you have no idea how to begin your revision, then an English teacher would be advisable.

Sometimes you feel very calm during the revision period, but panic (惊慌) sets in the night before.     4     You need to get enough sleep if you want to function properly during your exam. Use relaxation methods like meditation if you start to panic.

Maybe you have been fine the whole time, and you haven’t felt any anxiety.     5     Firstly, make sure that you do everything to keep you physically comfortable. Have you been to the toilet? Are you too hot or too cold? Then take some deep breaths. Remember that most people will be nervous; it’s natural. So just focus on your exam.
