2 . The New Year is always a time of new beginnings, a time for a change, and a time to set goals.    1     Here are some tips for setting career goals in a new year:

Reflect on Your Year

Take some time to consider your career in the year that just ended. If you dislike your job, try to figure out why. Is it due to the work itself, or something about the workplace? If you like what you do, and it’s outside factors that you find limiting, it might make sense to make your goal to find a new position.     2    

Engage in Career Research

    3    Start to read about careers of interest by browsing websites or publications at your local bookstore or library. Identify two new careers to research each week, and keep a diary of your interest in each. For those fields with a genuine appeal, make a list of questions to research so that you can fully evaluate the suitability of that career for you.

Check Out What Your Friends Do

    4     Think about the roles of colleagues, suppliers, or clients that might be a good fit for you, and interview them about the nature of their work. Share your skills list with them, and ask for help brainstorming career options that might be worth considering within their sections.

Gain New Skills

If you want to take up a new career, consider volunteering to gain additional experience, or taking classes to learn new skills.    5    

3 . Why can’t some people even get an inch of what they dream of becoming? Blame it on pure dreaming and lack of surrounding goals for achieving their dreams.

Setting goals is very significant part of accomplishing and positive actions. It is like scaling (攀爬) a 200 feet construction and marking in the early hours on what feet you would like to reach at this specific period.

People who set goals literally generate a map of their goal settings in life, marking where they should start, where to pause, where to study a bit, and where and when to end. Once this map comes into being, it allows the map drawer to check where he is in the scheme (安排) of things and whether or not he is making some planning that will take him closer to his goals.

By surrounding goals, people will know how they are doing and what they should be doing to get their goals or dreams in life. They will know if they can relax or if they have to double their efforts when they are falling short of what is expected of them.

Goal surroundings means a person isproactivein dealing with challenges that may affect his plans. Being proactive means one is able to outline possible difficulties that may occur as well as the solutions to these difficulties. By doing this, a person is not easily scared or defeated when challenges occur because he has already prepared for them. He knows they can happen and he has prepared a solution or strategy when that time comes.

Setting goals will enable people to track their progress in whatever hard work they set out to do. It will help people become more confident in themselves and more motivated to get their plans.

4 . Questions to ask yourself before making a big decision

Life is packed with decisions, big and small. If you feel a big decision is appearing in your life, don’t hide! Ask yourself these questions to get clear on what’s the right choice for you.

How committed am I to this change?

Rate your level of commitment on a scale out of 10.     1     Is your level of commitment higher than a 7? That’s great data for your decision!

Is this decision in line with my long-term goal?

    2     Write down your goals. Then think about how this decision plays into that longer-term plan.

This is one of my favorite questions! If something is stirring(搅动) within you --- a creative idea, a calling to move somewhere new, a desire to end a relationship --- what are you giving up when you don’t do it? What might you be missing out on in your life if you do nothing?

Is now the right time?

Bear in mind:     4     But there are few real reasons we ever need to delay making a big one when it presents itself. Remember, life is always uncertain and time waits for no one.

Making a big decision doesn’t have to be so difficult. There are no right or wrong answers, or right or wrong ways to live your life.     5     Your inner wisdom has the answers. So get busy asking the person who knows best --- you.

5 . Rujuta Teredesai grew up in Pune, a city in India. She saw that girls and boys in her community were not treated equally. Girls were responsible for all the household work.    1    women didn't have the same rights as men. They often suffered from mistreatment and sometimes even physical violence.

    2    But she saw that organizations working to end gender discrimination usually paid attention only to the actions and attitudes of girls. "Nobody talked to young boys about equality," she said.    3    The organization, Equal Community Foundation (ECF), now reaches 40,000 people in 20 communities in Pune.

ECF matches small groups of boys, ages 14 to 17, with male mentors for a 15-week period. The mentors talk to the boys about treating girls with respect.    4    They discuss times when the boys experienced unfair treatment. Then they work with the boys to come up with ways the boys can help spread tolerance. Boys have completed projects like making maps of the safest routes for girls to walk at night.

"What we have found is that these boys don't mean to be discriminatory," Teredesai says. "They don't mean to hurt someone.    5    " When boys work to make girls' lives better, everyone in the community wins.
