The spring festival is the more important holiday for the Chinese people. There are many traditional activity to celebrate the festival, such as to do a thorough cleaning to having a new look for the new year, to paste handwritten couplets(对联) on front doors to bring a good luck. On some areas, people conduct Yangge dance and lion dance to increase the festival atmosphere. Also, people prepared a variety of foods treat the family, friends and relatives. The festival lasts for 15 days. It’s usually the biggest family gathering for most families, but everyone is supposing to go home to join the celebration. Train and airplane tickets are very difficulty to get before the festival.

8 . The Qingming Festival is celebrated with a three-day national holiday, whose name originates from the saying “Plants start to revive and prosper at Qingming in a clean and bright way. Thus, the festival is called Qingming,” which means clean and bright.     1    . Tomb sweeping aims to commemorate family ancestors while going on a spring outing allows everyone the chance to enjoy the beautiful scenery and enjoy the season.

Qingtuan, a green rice ball tiny enough to fit into your hand, is also called Qingmingguo or Aiguo.     4     It is a mixture of sticky rice powder and green vegetable juice. stuffed with sweetened bean paste, Qingtuan tastes sweet with the fresh fragrance of Aicao, a green spring vegetable, In celebration of Qingming, people from Shaanxi make steamed buns, known as Huamo, made into different shapes.     5     Some are for peaceful family life while others represent the wish for health.

The Winter Solstice Festival (冬至) is one of the most important     1     (festival) celebrated by the Chinese on or around December 22. As early as 2,500 years ago, China determined the point of the Winter Solstice by     2     (observe) movements of the sun with a sundial (日晷).

The Winter Solstice became a festival during the Han Dynasty. The Han people     3     (regard) the Winter Solstice as a “Winter Festival”, so officials would organize activities. On this day, both officials and common people would have     4     rest. In the Tang and Song dynasties, the Winter Solstice was a day to offer sacrifices (供奉)     5     Heaven and ancestors. The first Renaissance fair was started in the 1960s by a school teacher in Southern California named Phyllis Patterson. She wanted to give her students a real-life history experience, so she created the “Renaissance Fair” in her backyard. The rest, as they say, is history.

Since Renaissance fairs are “living history”, you might think they are designed to be mainly educational. It’s true that some people try to make the fairs as genuine as possible.
