1 . Most people who live in Seattle, Washington, love their city. There is a never-ending flow of fun things to do. But, people who live there do not always enjoy the day-after-day absence of sunshine during the winter months.
It is a documented fact that sunshine(or lack of it)plays a major role in how each of us greets the day. It also affects how we perform at school or work. When people are deprived of sunlight, they can develop seasonal affective disorder, which makes it difficult for them to feel happy or get things accomplished. No major city in the United States is more affected by the “sunshine factor” than Seattle.
To fight drizzle and fog during the winter months, Steve Murphy created a business that is very popular among the locals. The Indoor Sun Shoppe is more than a little ray of sunshine during the grey days of Seattle’s winter. His shop offers a huge source of plants and artificial lighting for people who are trying to overcome seasonal affective disorder.
Located in Fremont, Washington, The Indoor Sun Shoppe has an amazing collection of exotic(奇异的)plants and “good bugs” in a humid and well-lit environment. At The Indoor Sun Shoppe, you can spend up to $400 for artificial lighting that will chase away the winter blues. It will also keep your plants healthy. You can buy a dawn simulator(模拟器)that will gradually fill your room with a warming wake-up glow. What better way to greet a Seattle morning when real sunshine is nothing more than a happy thought!
Murphy’s in-home waterfalls are also popular with customers. But his plants and lights remain the “main course”. On a cloudy winter day, The Indoor Sun Shoppe is a bright spot in Seattle!

The power of colour in branding
Take five colours: red, black, blue, green and purple. How do they make you feel? It’s a question of supreme significance to designers and marketers. British fashion designer Wayne Hemingway explored this topic about the psychology of colour in branding. Do you agree with him? Or do you think the meaning of colour depends on the culture you live in?
Red is, of course, considered auspicious(吉利的) in China. But he points out that it’s a powerful colour
Black has a different sense. In the West it’s associated with death, but that hasn’t stopped it
Blue, by contrast, is cool and tranquil. The colour is a constant presence in our lives, says Hemingway, being the colour of the sky and the sea. That gives it
Green is, unsurprisingly, the colour of nature and the environment. Marketers understand that giving a product green packaging creates the impression
Finally, we have purple, which is associated with valuable things. In the past, purple dye was expensive because it was very difficult to produce, and it became the colour

6 . You don’t need to get in a time-travelling machine to see how technology will reshape our lives, such as the way we shop.Several new technologies that are to change your buying habits already exist.Let’s see what’s in store for your future shopping.
Try it on,virtually (虚拟的).Want to shop online for a new pair of eyeglasses? You don’t need to guess which pair looks best on you — use the eBay Fashion iPhone app (程序) to try a pair of eyewear you’re checking out on a picture of your face. But what if you want to buy something bigger? Thanks to Microsoft Kinect’s motion tracking camera, you can cover clothes on your screen body. You can even choose the background of your virtual fitting room to enrich your shopping experience.
Get a perfect, custom fit.Everyone’s body is shaped differently. To get a perfect fit,you sometimes have to get your clothes changed. But by using 3D scanning technology, all the clothes you buy will fit your body perfectly. Some companies scan your body using high-tech to get the most accurate measurements,so they can make special clothes just for you.
High-tech shopping carts and checkout counters.High-tech shopping carts could,in time,be a common sight in malls and supermarkets.Microsoft Kinect-enabled carts are currently under test. The cart can follow you along the aisles (通道),controlled merely by your movement and your voice. In China,a supermarket chain introduced tablet-equipped carts that guide shoppers around the stores’ aisles.
In the United States, several supermarkets use a device called Scan It that gives buyers the freedom to scan purchases on their own while they shop. While it’s great not having to line up at a checkout counter,we wouldn’t mind it if the store used Toshiba’s new Object Recognition Scanner. The machine identifies a product as soon as it’s placed in front of a camera just by its shape and color, even if it has no bar code.

8 . If you think that Internet shopping on a Sunday gets you the best deals, then think again. Tuesday is actually the best day of the week if you want to grab a bargain, according to an exhaustive analysis of online shopping. Thursday is the second best day followed by Friday—but Sunday is when you are least likely to make a saving.
The study also looked at months and found that the preChristmas rush in November is when there are most bargains around on the web—and not the January sales. US retailer (零售商) reporting service Sum All examined 3,000 companies and half a billion transactions (交易) as part of its report. It worked out the average discount (折扣) offered to consumers on each day of the week and over different times of the year.
The best day of the week was Tuesday where savings were 4.81 percent, followed by Thursday on 4.80 percent. In third place was Friday at 4.65 percent, then Wednesday at 4.13 percent and Monday at 4.11 percent. Only the foolish would shop on a Saturday where the discounts were typically 3.84 percent—and Sunday was the worst with 3.37 percent.
The analysis by month is even more surprising as most people think that waiting until the postChristmas sales would yield the biggest discounts. In fact, November is when you will get the largest savings at 5.99 percent on average.January came in second at 4.95 percent, followed by May at 4.50 percent.
The worst month to buy online was March where you could expect to save just 2.76 percent. Consumers and experts have been speculating for years about the best time to shop online.
Booking a flight has almost become a science with some claiming that buying six weeks before you travel guarantees you the best price. However, a recent analysis by the US Airlines Reporting Commission found that was not actually the case.
Not only did the six week window fail to pile up, in some cases the best fares were on sale as long as 24 weeks before departure. The ARC said that booking well in advance is best advised for busy routes or long haul flights (长途航班), as the price only tends to go up.
