文章大意:这是一篇说明文,本文主要围绕 Google 在碳排放议题下所开展的全球气候变化数据库建立的过程和意义,表明了技术在应对气候变化的行动中发挥了作用。

1 . More cities, states and regions are committing to comprehensive climate plans to decarbonize (减少碳排放) transportation by 2040. The need for action is now, and we need to rise to the challenge quickly. Google technology is unlocking our ability to generate climate-related insights and impact on the globe.

The transportation sector is where global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are rising the quickest. In 2018, Google launched the Environmental Insights Explorer (EIE). Using AI, the systems analyze transportation trends in a city by mode, helping local governments assess their progress in tackling GHG emissions. GHG inventory processes (温室气体排放清单) traditionally take months and multiple data sources to collect, and are now highly efficient, allowing government staff to reduce the cost and personnel burden of reporting.

In pursuit of helping more cities take action against climate change, we will make transportation insights available in EIE for over 20,000 cities and regional governments by the end of the year, making it one of the largest ever collections of high-quality, globally consistent environmental data sources.

With EIE, cities have free access to Google’s unique mapping data and insights so they can decide on cleaner transport policies. As part of Google’s most ambitious decade of climate action, we’ve committed to helping more than 500 cities and local governments reduce a total sum of 1 billion tons of carbon emissions per year by 2030 and beyond.

As the window continues to narrow on carrying out policies and plans to reduce emissions, we’re collaborating with other associations, committed to addressing climate change. Our work with Cities. Climate Leadership Group(C 40) will help us better support the needs of cities. Together we can provide higher-quality transportation activity data to measure and track GHG emissions at a global scale, while also giving state and local governments resources to better understand what’s working at a local level.

1. What can we learn about EIE from paragraph 2?
A.It takes over government staff’s work.
B.It predicts transportation trends in a city.
C.It results in the rising of GHG emissions.
D.It deals with data collection and analysis.
2. What is the purpose of the project EIE?
A.To promote Google’s ambitious climate action.
B.To help cities make more sustainable decisions.
C.To provide environmental protection resources.
D.To partner with 40 countries for climate solutions.
3. Which of the following can replace the underlined word “collaborating” in the last paragraph?
A.Cooperating.B.Compromising.
C.CompetingD.Corresponding.
4. What is the main idea of the passage?
A.Google helps calculate people’s carbon footprint with EIE.
B.Local governments benefit from environmental data sources.
C.Technology does its part in the action against climate change.
D.Technology can increase people’s environmental consciousness.

文章大意:本文是新闻报道。介绍了PAL-V Liberty是一种革命性的交通工具,可以在陆地和空中行驶,这是世界上第一辆商用飞行汽车,目前已可预订。

7 . The PAL-V Liberty is a revolutionary vehicle that can travel on both land and air. It is the world’s first commercial flying car, and it is now available for pre-order. The PAL-V Liberty is developed by a Dutch company called PAL-V International B. V., which stands for Personal Air and Land Vehicle. The company has been working on the project since 2001, and has successfully tested the prototype in 2012.

The PAL-V Liberty is a two-seater hybrid car and gyroplane, which means it has a three-wheeled chassis and a foldable rotor on top. It can switch between driving mode and flying mode in about 10 minutes, with the help of a semi-automatic system. It has a top speed of 160 km/h on the road and 180 km/h in the air, and can fly up to 500 km on a single tank of fuel. It uses regular gasoline, and can be refueled at any gas station.

The PAL-V Liberty is expected to be delivered to customers in 2023, alter obtaining the necessary certifications from aviation authorities. The company claims that the vehicle meets the existing regulations of both cars and aircrafts, and that it is safe and easy to operate. However, the PAL-V Liberty is not a cheap vehicle, nor is it accessible to everyone. It costs599,000 euros (about 4.7 million yuan) for the Pioneer Edition, which includes flight training courses, power heating and personalization options. There is also a cheaper Sport Edition, which costs 299,000 euros (about 2.3 million yuan), but it has less features and requires the buy er to pay an additional 10,000 euros(about 78,000 yuan) for flight training.

To drive the PAL-V Liberty, one needs both a driving license and a pilot license. The vehicle also requires a runway or airstrip to take off and land, as it cannot do so vertically like a helicopter. The company says it has received 70 orders for the vehicle so far, mostly from customers in Europe and North America. The PAL-V Liberty is a groundbreaking innovation that could change the future of transportation, but it also faces many challenges and limitations.

1. What’s the limitation of the Pioneer Edition of the PAL-V Liberty?
A.Lack of customized selection.B.Failure to land and take off vertically

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍的是研究人员提出了一种新方法来统计和追踪公共道路上的车辆,这一发展有望改善当前的交通系统,帮助旅行者更快地到达目的地。

8 . Researchers have proposed a novel method for counting and tracking vehicles on public roads, a development that could improve current traffic systems and help travelers get to their destinations faster.

Using the cameras already installed on campus buses at the Ohio State University, researchers proved that they could automatically and accurately measure counts of vehicles on urban roadways, detect objects in the road and distinguish parked vehicles from those that are moving.

In previous studies, Ohio State researchers found that using these mobile cameras provides much better spatial and temporal (时间的) coverage than relying on often temporarily placed sensors that don’t provide a view of many streets and roads in a city.

“If we collect and process more high-resolution (高清) spatial information about what’s happening on the roads, then planners could better understand changes in demand, effectively improving efficiency in the broader transportation system,” said Keith Redmill, lead author of the study.

“If we can measure traffic in a way that is as good or better than what is conventionally done with fixed sensors, then we will have created something incredibly useful extremely cheaply,” he said. “Our goal is to start building a system that could do this without much manual intervention because if you want to collect this information over lots of potential vehicles and lots of time, it’s worth fully automating that process.”

While still a long way from total implementation (实施), the study suggests the system’s results bear promise for the future of intelligent traffic surveillance. Transportation planners, engineers and operators make vital decisions about the future of our roadways, so when designing transportation systems to work over the next 30 to 50 years, it’s necessary that we give them data that allows them to improve the efficiency of the system and the level of service provided to travelers.

1. How can cameras on buses benefit travelers?
A.By shortening their travel time.
B.By making their schedules tight.
C.By decreasing their transport cost.
D.By improving their safety awareness.
2. What can we know about the sensors placed on buses?
A.They provide more spatial coverage.
B.They can’t detect objects on the road.
C.They cover less view of the urban traffic.
D.They accurately record the flow of traffic.
3. What does the underlined word “surveillance” in paragraph 6 mean?
A.Operation.B.Monitoring.C.Protection.D.Arrangement.
4. What is a suitable title for the text?
A.Transportation automation is on its way
B.It is time to improve the efficiency of traffic system
C.Transportation planners use cameras to make policies
D.Cameras installed on buses can better measure traffic
