This morning we attended a lecture about Pompeii, that was founded in the 8th century BC. In 89 BC, the Romans took over Pompeii. It then became the rich and busy city. In 24 August AD 79, the volcano erupted. Many people buried alive, and so was the city. What unfortunate! I saw streets just as it had been, with stepping stones along the road so you did not have to step in the mud on rainy days! I saw several house which were decorated with wall paintings. I also saw the people who had been buried alive. It turns out that after the trash covered the people who they failed to flee the city, their bodies nearly completely break down and disappeared, leaving empty spaces in the disaster. It’s hard to imagine how this peacefully volcano destroyed the whole city.

At 3:42 one of the greatest earthquake of the 20th century shook Tangshan. It seemed as if the world was at the end. A huge crack that was eight kilometers long and thirty meters wider cut across houses, roads and canals. Steam bursts from holes in the ground. Hard hills of rock became rivers of dirt. In fifteen terrible seconds a large city lay in ruin. The suffering of the people was extremely. Two-thirds of them died and injured during the earthquake. The number of people killing or injured reached more than 400,000. After the earthquake, everywhere the survivors looked nearly everything was destroyed. Bricks covered the ground like red autumn leaves and sand was now filled the wells instead of water. People were shocking and they felt hopeless.
Keep calm and carry on! You can see this message write on many T-shirt and other souvenirs in London and the UK. It has become very famous that there are many versions of it. But where does the originally phrase come from? Well, it comes from Second World War. It was the message used for a poster being created by the British government to calm people down and encourage it during the war. When London was being attacked, “Keep calm and carry on” with your life as normal, as if there were no war. Keep calm when you have problems is known as a very British thing to do. In the past British people are famous for keeping a “stiff tipper lip”. This means your lips don’t shake when you are excited or frightening: you stay calm and don’t show people how you are really. Do the British still like this today? Well, not really. However, they are still fond of this message.

Country music is one of the most popular kinds of music in the United states today because it is about simple but strong human feeling and events---love, sadness, good times, and bad times. It tells real—life stories and sound the way people really talk.
Country music, sometimes is called country-western, comes by two kinds of music. One is traditional music from the eastern United States. The other is traditional cowboy music from the west. The singers usual play guitars. At first it is popular mostly in the South. And during World War II, thousands of Southerners went to the Northeast and Midwest to work in the factories. They took their music with them. Soldiers which were from the rest of the country went to army camps in the South learned country music. Thus they became popular all over country.
