1 . Cheating can happen in a lot of different ways. When people cheat, it's not fair to other people, like the kids who studied for the test or who were the true winners of a game.

Mary people like the action of cheating. It makes difficult things seen easy, like getting all the right answers on the test. But it doesn’t solve the problem of not knowing the material and it won't help on the next test — unless the person cheats again.

Some people lose respect for cheaters and think less of them. The cheaters themselves may feel bad because they know they are not really earning that good grade. And, if they get caught cheating, they will be in trouble at school, and maybe at home, too.

Some kids cheat because they're busy or lazy and they want to get good grades without spending the time studying. Other kids might feel like they can't pass the test without cheating. Even when there seems to be a “good reason” for cheating, cheating isn't a good idea.

If you were sick or upset about something the night before and couldn't study, it would be better to talk with the teacher about this. And if you don't have enough time to study for a test because of swim practice, you need to talk with your parents about how to balance swimming and school.

A kid who thinks cheating is the only way to pass a test needs to talk with the teacher and his or her parents so they can find some solutions (解决办法) together. Talking about these problems and working them out will feel better than cheating,

2 . Too much screen time for kids can lead to poor health the American Heart Association (AHA) says. A scientific statement published by the AHA in the medical journal Circulation said screen time from smartphones, tablet computers and other devices can lead kids to a sedentary(惯于久坐不动的) lifestyle ,increasing the possibility that they grow up as overweight or obese(肥胖的).

The AHA is the latest organization urging parents to limit how much time their kids spend in front of screens. It recommends children get one to two hours of screen time each day. Although television viewing among children and teens has dropped, the use of smartphones and tablet computers has surged.

“Although the mechanisms(机制) linking screen time to obesity are not entirely clear, there are real concerns that screens influence eating behaviors, mainly because children don’t notice when they are full when eating in front of a screen,” said Tracie Barnett, a researcher at the INRS-Institut Armand-Frappier Research Centre,in a statement.

Barnett, one of the authors of the statement, also urges parents to keep screens out of kids’bedrooms, raising the fear that too much screen time can affect sleep.

Many studies have warned about the potential (潜在的) negative effects of too much screen time. Last year, a study from researchers at San Diego State University(SDSU) found nearly half of teens who spent five or more hours in front of screens every day experienced long periods of hopelessness or sadness.

Apple, who makes the iOS mobile platform, plans to introduce new tools to devices to help users cut back on screen time. As for iOS 12,iPhones will include a screen time feature where users can control and review how they spend time on their mobile devices. Another company that makes the Android platform will introduce “digital well-being” tools such as screen time limits and a “wind down” option to encourage users to put down their phones before bed.

A.By changing the time they eat.B.By changing their taste for food.
C.By influencing how fast they eat.D.By influencing their feeling of fullness.
3. What effect did too much screen time have in SDSU’s study?
A.It affected children’s sleep.B.It led to children’s obesity.
C.It resulted in diet problems.D.It negatively influenced moods.
4. What will Apple do to deal with the screen time problem?
A.Reduce its products’ battery life.
B.Provide a screen time feature.
C.Introduce “digital well-being” tools.
D.Add a “wind down” option to its products.

4 . WeChat, China's most popular mobile social app, used to be a place where people could connect with each other through sharing photos and texts about their life in their friend circles, but now it is flooded with advertisements, showoffs, chicken-soup stories and even rumors(谣言).

In the age of social media, everyone is crazy about attention. When I first joined WeChat in 2011, like many people, I shared a lot of moments in my life. I felt like if I did not post something on my friend circle, I would feel less important in this world.

For years, I enjoyed it. It made me feel like I was more popular than I actually was in real life. However, when the number of my “friends” increased, it became a really bad dream.

WeChat's friend circle has become such a sensitive(敏感的) place that it has started to make relationships among people become tense. One day when I called my high school friend and asked how she was doing, she was kind of upset that I did not pay much attention to her friend circle. “All my moments are listed there. You don't even care about following me?” she questioned. Honestly, I have no interest in what everyone is doing every minute. But clearly, it is a big deal for some people.

“Why didn't you like my post?” “Why can't I see the moment you post? Did you keep me off?” “Why didn't you reply to my comment?” “Can you please help me retweet(转发) this message?” These are the questions I always get.

I believe that the reason why WeChat is so widely used is that it shows the very Chinese way of social life—we are all connected in different social groups such as classmate groups, co-worker groups and neighborhood groups. In real life, many Chinese people are good at role playing in different groups, which is similar to WeChat. It is like the traditional face-changing in the Sichuan Opera. You have to say things differently indifferent groups.

It has been reported that more and more people are leaving the friend circle because they are annoyed. I finally left too. I need to start thinking of how to use social media by hiding myself just enough while my friends all stay interested in me at the same time.

5 . My granddaughter, 10, was very happy the day before yesterday because her mother and the mother of one of her classmates took them to a park and a Pizza Hut (比萨饼屋) to celebrate Children's Day. For a whole day, the two girls played heartily—no homework, no extra-curricular (课外) skills training. The happy life lasted only for one day. Yesterday, everything returned to normal: doing homework till late at night and going over lessons learned at last weekend's English and “Olympic mathematics” (数学奥赛) courses.

Every time I went to my daughter's house in the evening, I saw my granddaughter sitting by the small desk in her room doing math exercises or writing a composition given by her teacher. On the white wall behind the desk are some words she wrote. One sentence reads: “Why is the exercise endless?” Poor girl!

Although teachers have stopped giving after-school homework to primary schoolchildren, parents have been forcing their kids to take part in different kinds of extra-curricular training courses—learning English, painting, music instrument (乐器) , weiqi, “Olympic mathematics” and so one very Saturday and Sunday.

6 . Most parents are horrified the first time they catch their kid out in a lie. Just how worried should you be if your little one has started lying, and how can you encourage them to tell the truth?

According to child and teen psychiatrist Gayani DeSilva, MD, lying can actually be a sign of healthy development in young children.

“Kids lie for many reasons, and much of it is normal.” DeSilva says. “People are not born with the tools of interacting with others and getting their needs met. They must learn how to communicate those needs in appropriate ways, and they’ll experiment with different communication techniques until they find the ones that work best for them. Lying is one of those techniques.”

For instance, at age two or three, kids may lie as they experiment with pushing limits to see what behaviors are acceptable and what aren’t. As kids get older, they become more aware of how their actions affect others. Many lie less frequently because they know it could hurt someone else’s feelings or trust. Teens were most likely to consider lying an acceptable behavior if it was to help somebody or keep a personal secret, but not if it was likely to cause harm to somebody.

Just because lying is, in most cases, normal, doesn’t mean it should be ignored. If you know your child is lying, what should you do? When a child lies, look at them directly and ask, “What do you need?” After they tell you, gently remind them that telling you directly will be more effective than lying.

Also, it’s a good idea to model the behavior you want to see in your kids. In other words, don’t lie to your children. This will set you and your children on a course of open communication, trust, and satisfaction that needs and wants are understood and met.

Generally, a child who is neglected will lie more than a child who has attentive and responsive parents. By paying attention to the reasons behind a small lie, parents can figure out if there’s a need that’s not being met.

1. Why do kids lie according to DeSilva?
A.To get their needs met.
B.To improve their communication skills.
C.To avoid hurting someone else’s feelings.
D.To be aware of how their actions affect others.
2. Why do kids lie less frequently as they grow older?
A.They think lying limits their behaviors.
B.They realize the negative effects of lying.
C.They consider lying an acceptable behavior.
D.They want to help people who are neglected.
3. What are parents advised to do concerning their kids lying?
A.Give them whatever they need.B.Pretend not to notice their lies.
C.Set a good example to them.D.Remind them not to lie again.
4. What does the author think of kids lying?
A.Acceptable and appropriate.B.Harmful and worrying.
C.Normal and understandable.D.Healthy and effective.
5. Which of the following statements is wrong?
A.DeSilva considers it normal for kids to tell lies
B.Neglected needs may be the reason for telling lies.
C.Teens think that lying is acceptable if it is to help others or keep a secret.
D.Telling lies is not a healthy development in chidren’s growth.

7 . Many facts suggest that children are overweight and the situation is getting worse, according to the doctors. I feel there are a number of reasons for this.

Some people blame the fact that we are surrounded by shops selling unhealthy, fatty foods, such as fried chicken and ice cream, at low prices. This has turned out a whole generation of grown-ups who seldom cook a meal for themselves. If there were fewer of these restaurants, then probably children would buy less take-away food.

There is another argument that blames parents for allowing their children to become overweight. I agree with this, because good eating habits begin early in life, long before children start to visit fast food shops. If children are given fried chicken and chocolate rather than healthy food, or are always allowed to choose what they eat, they will go for sweet and salty foods every time, and this will carry on throughout their lives.

There is a third reason for this situation. Children these days take very little exercise. They do not walk to school. When they get home, they sit in front of the television or their computers and play computer games. Not only is this an unhealthy pastime (消遣), it also gives them time to eat more unhealthy food. What they need is to go outside and play active games or sports.

The above are the main reasons for this problem, and therefore we have to encourage young people to be more active, as well as steering them away from fast food shops and bad eating habits.

1. According to the text, what kind of children may eat more unhealthy food?
A.Those who often do sportsB.Those who often walk to school
C.Those who often watch televisionD.Those who often have meals at home
2. The author thinks that children are becoming overweight because ________.
A.their parents often cook meals for them
B.they are too busy to go out and play
C.they can't choose what to eat
D.there are too many fast food shops around
3. What does the underlined word "steering" in the last sentence most probably means?
A.movingB.forcing.
C.drivingD.guiding.
4. The main purpose of the text is to ________.
A.tell a storyB.provide facts
C.give adviceD.compare opinions

9 . Sustainability(可持续性), one of the biggest topics of the last decade, has become the ray of hope to protect the planet. It's a topic we can't ignore and we must act now in a more sustainable way.

What does that mean for the world of technology? E-waste is one of the planet's biggest contributing waste problems.

Not only e-waste, but the materials that go into tech products are part of the problem. Take the smartphone industry for example, dozens of metals, minerals which have to be taken from the earth(including 16 of 17 rare metals) go into making phones. And with demand for mobile phones bigger than ever, it's a problem that needs to be solved.

With a challenge comes an opportunity, and there's already some progress happening - great news for those of us wanting to be more sustainable with our tech. People used to turn their noses up at the idea of a second-hand product, but there's been a huge increase in demand for refurbished tech(翻新技术). For example, refurbished smartphone sales in the US have risen by 28% in the last 12 months while brand new sales have fallen by 21%.

Many communities are making an effort to deal with e-waste as well. Cities, schools, or churches will sometimes hold events to collect e-waste and send it to recycling centers. Some companies even offer buy-back programs where people will be given cash if they turn in old devices.

So the next time you want to deal with your e-waste, whether a smartphone, a laptop, an MP4 player or other, consider the more environmentally-friendly choices. It is possible to be sustainable with your tech after all.

1. What is the main purpose of paragraph 1?
A.To explain what is sustainability.
B.To introduce the topic of the text. .
C.To give us an example of sustainability.
D.To show different topics of sustainability.
2. What can be inferred from the passage?
A.E-waste is the biggest waste problem.
B.E-waste can't be dealt with in the end.
C.People act in a more sustainable way than before.
D.People would choose second-hand products in the past.
3. Which of the following can be e-waste EXCEPT?
A.MP4 playersB.e-books
C.laptopsD.smartphones
4. Which word best describes the author's attitude to sustainability?
A.Doubtful.B.Unclear,
C.Negative.D.Supportive.

10 . How many phone numbers can you remember by heart? It’s probably fewer than you would like. Actually, you are not alone. Out of more than 1,000 Americans who were surveyed, more than half said that they couldn’t recall the phone numbers of their friends and neighbors. In their eyes, there is no point in filling their heads with phone numbers if they are all stored in smart phones that are with them almost all the time.

In fact, most people are suffering from a sort of digital amnesia(健忘). more than 90% of those surveyed agreed that they used the Internet as an online of their brains. Rote memorization(死记硬背) was once an important part of modern education, but we just need a click or slide now. That’s making us worse at remembering things.

Researchers found that when people expected to use the information online, they were less likely to remember actual facts, but more likely to remember how to find them. As a result, we are already becoming ones with our computer tools, growing into interconnected systems that remember less by knowing information than by knowing where the information can be found.

However, some believe it isn’t necessarily a bad thing--maybe it gives them more chances to think through things. We certainly acquire more knowledge now than ever, even if it isn’t all stored in our brains.

Even so, I still believe that there are more risks to this new world of memory beyond losing our ability to recall some information such as who the 15th President was. That kind of information may always be a click away, but the important things are personal ones, like the way your parents smiled at your wedding. It’s harder to recall or find online. If you’re relying on yourself to keep track of those memories, they will be much more meaningful.

1. Paragraph 1 is mainly used to _______.
A.serve as the backgroundB.introduce the topic
C.explain new researchD.show some data to readers
2. What’s the main cause of people’s suffering from digital amnesia?
A.Dealing with too many thingsB.Seldom thinking about questions
C.Relying on the internet too muchD.The changes of their memories.
3. It can be learned from the passage that _______.
A.over 90% people are suffering from digital amnesia
B.people can gain knowledge more easily than before
C.rote memorization no longer exists in modern life
D.People find it hard to remember how to find information
4. What’s the author’s attitude towards people’s memories now?
A.WorriedB.Optimistic
C.DisappointedD.Confident
