2 . Florence Nightingale was named after her birthplace, Florence, Italy. When she was almost a year old, she returned with her family to England.
Florence often helped her mother deliver(运送) food to the poor and sick.
But Florence was determined. She studied books on medicine. Later, she visited hospitals in France, Germany and Ireland and learned everything she could.
In 1854, Britain was at war with Russia. Florence went to the British hospital in Scutari (now Üsküdar in Istanbul) and she was shocked. The hospital left men lying on the floor, and rats were running everywhere.
The doctors wouldn’t listen to Florence because they didn’t like the idea of women in army hospitals—until one day 500 unexpected casualties(伤亡者) arrived.
When she returned home after the war, a fund had been set up in her honor. Many of the soldiers she had nursed had made contributions(捐款).Now she could set up the Nightingale Training School in London.

Li Bai was a great poet in the Tang Dynasty of China. It’s said that in his childhood, he was very fond playing and afraid of difficulties, and made no effort in her studies. One day, in his way home after school, he walked by a creek and saw the old woman grinding a very, very thick iron rod. Being curious, he went to the old woman and ask, “Old grandma, why are you grinding this iron rod?” The old woman replied, “To making a needle.” At this moment, Li Bai felt more curious and asked again, “How can you grind such a thick iron rod that into a needle?” “Yes. I can. certainly can,” the old woman said. “If one works with constantly efforts, one can grind an iron rod into a needle.” Hearing how the old woman said, Li Bai was enlightened. Since then, Li Bai studied hard and made rapid progresses. Eventually he became a famous poet.
4 . The man who walked into Dave Cutlip’s tattoo parlor(纹身店)in Brooklyn Park. Maryland, in January was tough to miss. His face bore a gang(帮派)tattoo. The man sought Cutlip’s help in covering up his violent past. He was determined to turn over a new leaf. “I could see the hurt in his eyes,” Cutlip, 49, told The Washington Post.
Cutlip couldn’t help the man—the tattoo were too close to the eyes. But it got him thinking. Many young people get tattoos that they come to regret. A few can mark them for the rest of their days. Then they’re “always going to be a victim. ” said Cutlip. “If I can help, that’s my ultimate(最终的)goal. ”
Inking over a tattoo costs hundreds of dollars, and getting one removed by laser(激光)is even pricier. So Cutlip decided he would help by hiding racist or gang-related tattoos for free. He put the word out via Facebook: “Sometimes people make bad choices and sometimes people change. We believe there is enough hate in this world, and we want to make a difference. ”
One man, Casey Schaffer, showed up with the word “white” on one forearm and “power” on the other. He’d served a year in prison on drug charges, he told The Washington Post, and had joined a white group there because "they took care of me. I thought of it as paying them back. " But employers would take one look at the tattoos and turn him down. So he had Cutlip obscure(使不分明)one of the words with a heat and roses and tattoo an eagle over the other.
Cutlip has done nine such jobs, each of which took several hours. He told People that a client(顾客)let him know that he quickly found a job once his tattoo was obscured. Such victories inspired Cutlip to found the Random Acts of Tattoo project with three like-minded(志同道合的)tattoo studios from around the country, and now hundreds of clients are on a wait list. As he told National Public Radio. “If we can just erase hate, then we’re doing something. ”

5 . Losing a wallet is one of those careless acts most of us have come across, at some point or the other in our lives. While most of us tend to move on after mourning over the lost necessities, there are a few lucky ones who get them back, with the help of the police or the generosity of the person who finds it.
And then there is Hunter Shamatt, who not only got back his wallet but with some added happiness that was tagged along!
Hunter was on his way to attend his sister’s wedding on a Las Vegas-bound flight when he realized that he has misplaced his wallet, sometime during the journey. Hunter’s family reached out to the Frontier flight to enquire if someone had handed it over to them. Unfortunately, there was no sign of the missing wallet.
But wait. The story was far from over. Just a week after Hunter’s sister’s wedding, he received a package in his mail. And guess what? There was his wallet! Surprisingly, the wallet was not the only thing that was inside the package. It also had a handwritten note for Hunter which turned out to be a bonus! The piece of paper read,
“Hunter, Found this on a Frontier flight from Omaha to Denver — row 12, seat F wedged between the seat and wall. Thought you might want it back. All the best.
P.S. I rounded your cash up to an even $100, so you could celebrate getting your wallet back. HAVE FUN!!!”
Moved by the touching gesture, Hunter’s mom, Jeannie Shamatt, decided to write a post on Facebook giving a detailed description of the incident. She also urged everyone to share the post as she would like to meet and greet the person behind the act of kindness, personally.
Now, thanks to the astonishing power of social media, the post finally reached the man behind the note. The man was identified as Todd Brown and it was one of his co-workers who made sure Jeannie Shamatt’s post reaches his colleague. Jeannie turned to Facebook again to thank Brown and his family for restoring her faith in humanity.
“I try to teach my children to do the right things in life, help people when you can regardless of the outcome. This story is more about restoring faith in people than anything. 6 . During the cold winter months of 2013, Shyam Bihari Prasad, an old retired man, moved to Vasant Kunj in New Delhi to live with his daughter. This elderly gentleman would visit the Hanuman temple near his home every morning, where he would often see several children standing outside, begging the people for food.
"These children have working parents who lock their homes when they go to work. They have to leave their children outside to look after themselves. Classes in the local government school start only at 10:00AM, so these children beg for food outside the temple before going to school", says Prasad.
One morning, Prasad bought biscuits from the shop near the temple gate for a few of them. When talking with them, Prasad learnt more about their school and the different classes the children attended. He also asked them some basic questions and realized they had no grasp of simple concepts in science and math, nor any knowledge of spelling and writing in English and Hindi. He asked them if they would like to study. After receiving a positive response, he promised to meet them on the pavement outside the temple the next day at 8:00AM. Ever since that cold winter morning in November 2013, these street children have had classes on the pavement outside the temple.
Several local residents take a keen interest in the classes as well, offering help when they have time. Madam Manju comes in to teach the children English, Brother Singh helps them with math, and Mandam Kirtika gives lessons in both science and math. There are others who donate books and some who buy snacks for the children.
Despite the noisy vehicles and passers-by, the children here are focused and eager to read and write. They didn't know how to sit or talk properly at first. Now they have changed and helped each other with their studies. Shyam Brihari Prasad has turned the lives of many of these children around. They are doing well in their school exams and are spending happy and fruitful mornings instead of begging on the street.

I thought it was easy, and it turned out to be a hard one by a matter of fact. I spend the whole morning washing dish and setting tables. I didn't have lunch until it was two in the afternoon. After lunch, I immediately began to work again, does the same things until 11 pm. It took myself more than ten hours a day to work there!
