1 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Emma had two exams that day — physics and history. She really hated physics. It was her worst subject. Alice looked at her, and then looked away quickly. Emma thought Alice looked pleased, because she didn’t have a problem with physics, she didn’t have a problem with anything...Miss Perfect!

“I thought we were friends, but she hasn’t spoken to me for two weeks now. she promised to help me go over for the physics exam too, but then she’s forgotten all my calls and texts. And when I rang her house, her mum just told me she was busy.” Emma thought angrily. At that moment, Mr. Read asked all the students into the exam room.

Emma couldn’t answer some physics questions. Suddenly she saw Alice sitting two rows in front of her. Emma couldn’t believe it! Alice was holding her phone on her knee under the table and reading from it. Is that how Alice always got such good grades? She felt really angry at Alice, and thought about telling the teacher, but...“Stop writing,” said Mr. Read and started to collect the exam papers. Oh no, Emma hadn’t answered two of the questions. She was going to fail again!

Emma wanted to talk to Alice at lunchtime, but she couldn’t find her anywhere. Emma went to the library to prepare for the history exam, which was her favorite. But she couldn’t concentrate. “Unfair! Alice was getting good grades by cheating all that time.” She thought about telling a teacher, but everyone would hate her if she did that. Just then, Mr. Read walked past her table. “Mr. Read...”

Emma was sitting behind Alice again in the history exam that afternoon. Mr. Read wanted her to look at Alice and agreed if she saw that Alice was cheating in the exam.

6 . There’s this boy in my band, Spanish and math class. His name was Nathan. I never really liked him since he was a slowpoke (行动迟缓的人). He didn’t have any friends at all. He always sat alone at the lunch table with his phone listening to music. People just walked past him without caring. And in class whenever he was asked a question, he would take a long time to answer it. The whole class would get annoyed and whenever he got an answer wrong, the whole class would laugh. I didn’t know why but I didn’t care enough to know.

On Nov. 17, I walked into band class and was ready to play my flute. Mr. Kohler began the class. We played music for a little while then he asked us to tune our instruments. I saw Nathan. He was just walking around like usual looking for something. There is nothing surprising about that; he does that in every class. He doesn’t just sit the whole class period. He walks around looking for a tissue or anew reed (簧片) for his instrument. He plays clarinet (单簧管) by the way.

So then Mr. Kohler asked the class to tell what note it was just by hearing the pitch (音高). Nobody raised their hand except for Nathan. The moment I saw him, I laughed but not out loud. I thought he couldn’t do anything properly. How could he possibly guess the note when the pitch is played? But he could. He guessed every pitch right, even when Mr. Kohler played 2 and 3 pitches at the same time.

At that moment I got goosebumps (起鸡皮疙瘩). How did he do that? That day I realized that I shouldn’t judge people based on the little things I see. I need to see the great things people can do.

From that day on I had a different opinion on Nathan. I forgot about all the things he was bad at and focused on the things he was good at. Whenever I saw him, I just said to myself, “That’s the guy who impressed me. That’s the guy who is musically talented.”

1. What was the author’s impression of Nathan at first?
A.He was talented in music.B.He was slow in learning.
C.He was a hard-working student.D.He was good at amusing others.
2. What does Nathan usually do in class?
A.He often does what he likes freely.
B.He sits in his place silently.
C.He walks out of the room frequently.
D.He listens to music from his phone.
3. What did the author feel after Nathan told the right note?
A.Satisfied.B.Disappointed.C.Shocked.D.Annoyed.
4. What lesson might the author get from his experience?
A.Everyone has his advantage.B.Lazy folks are lucky to be lazy.
C.Talent is not easy to be found.D.Nothing is impossible to a willing heart.

9 . Aesha Ash is a Ballet (芭蕾舞) dancer who began the Swan Dreams Project in 2011. It is a program designed to bring ballet to girls of color in her community. Aesha Ash is one of the few women of color to ever grace the stages of New York City Ballet School of American Ballet. She wants to expose her community to more positive images of women of color through the use of ballet. She wants to show the world that beauty and grace are not defined by status or race.

Aesha grew up in the inner city of Rochester, New York, where crime, gun violence and poverty were among the biggest threats to the community. For her, that’s normal. That’s just life in the neighborhood, but what she remembers most is the dance studio.

She started dancing all together at the age of five. A teacher mentioned to her mother that she had some promise in ballet, and that it would be difficult for her, as a woman of color, to enter the ballet world. But the adversity (逆境) she faced was the very thing that pushed her to pursue a career in ballet.

And there’s so much negative stereotyping (刻板印象) and misunderstanding of who they are in the media. Through the use of imagery and her career as a ballet dancer, she challenges stereotypes that exist for women of color, particularly those from inner-city communities.

“It’s important that our girls see that side of themselves because for many kids it’s hard to be what you can’t see. I didn’t see a black ballet dancer before I decided that’s what I wanted to be. It was really important for me to be in my environment displaying that because this is where I’m from. It was always beyond ballet.” Aesha Ash stated.

1. Why did Aesha start the Swan Dreams Project?
A.To promote the images of females of color by ballet.
B.To expose her community to a world of women of color.

2. Which of the following best describes the community she grew up in?

B.The hardship she encountered in her life.
C.Stereotypes that exist for women of color.
D.Misunderstanding of who women of color are in the media.
4. What is the main idea of the text?
