Last summer, I took a part in voluntary work, helping elderly people. I delivered meals to some old people live alone. Nervous and exciting, I knocked on the door of a 90-year-old man on the first day. To my surprise, there is no answer. I kept knocking unless one of his neighbors turned up, saying the old man might have gone outside. Soon the man returned but accepted my meal. My experiences have shown that I can bring joy with old people. Everyone will face the fact when their parents grow older and become dependent on their children. Yesterday, when I complained with my mom about too little entertainment, she share the story of her youth with me. In the 1980s, neither iPads nor smartphones were invented. Today, I was walking to work on a busy street. I passed by blind elderly lady sitting in cold wind. Seen her old face and sightless eyes, I stopped immediately. Last summer, I stayed with a British host family. One day, I was real surprised when Jeremy, the son of the family, tells me that we would have toad-in-the-hole for dinner. Today I went to a department store for a quick look. There was a little girl, that was about 6 year old, holding a large colorful toy. It was only five dollars, so her father refused to buy it for her because he couldn’t afford it. She looked so disappointing. I went to the father and asked secret if he would mind my buying the toy and give it to his child. She looked surprised for a minute or two, but at the last he agreed. I bought the toy and gave it the little girl. She keeps thanking me for my kindness. Seeing the delighted expression on her face brightened my day, too!
