When I was a freshman I joined Volunteers for Wildlife, a rescue and education     1     (社团) at my college. Trying to help injured or sick creatures can be heartbreaking, for     2     (存活) is never certain. However, when it works, it surely b    3     the creatures and us.

I got a rescue call from a woman in Mutton town. She had found a young owl on the ground by a    4    . When I arrived, I saw a 2-to-3-week-old owl. I soon examined the chick and it seemed fine with only     5     (不严重的) injury on its wing. My next work was to construct a nest and anchor it in a tree. A basket was found. I put some pine branches m    6     with grass into the basket to make this nest comfortable. I placed the chick in the nest, and it quickly calmed down.

Now what the chick needed was     7     (情感的) company. I gave the homeowner a recording of the hunger screams of owl chicks. It was i    8     to attract the chick’s parents and encourage our chick to start calling as well.

Much to my r    9    , the homeowner called next day, saying that the parents had responded to the recordings. I drove over and what i    10     me most was an active chick accompanied by its lunch in the nest. The parents had done their duty and would probably continue to do so.

Tony worked in a lawyer's office years ago, but he is now working at a bank. He gets a good     1    , but he always borrows money from his friends and never pays it     2    . Tony saw me and came and sat at the same table. He has never borrowed money from me. While he was eating, I asked him to lend me twenty pounds.    3    my surprise, he gave me the money immediately.

Last week I went to the theatre. I had a very good seat. The play was very     1    . I did not enjoy it. A young man and a young woman were sitting       2     me. They were talking     3    . I got very angry. I could not hear the actors. I turned round. I looked at the man and the woman angrily. They did not     4     any attention.

Postcards always spoil my holidays. Last summer, I went to Italy. I     5    museums and sat in public gardens. A     6     waiter taught me a few words of Italian. Then he lent me a book. I read a few lines, but I did not     7     a word. Everyday I thought about postcards.

I have just moved to a house in Bridge Street. Yesterday a beggar     8     at my door. He asked me for a meal and a glass of beer. In     9     for this, the beggar stood on his head and sang songs. I gave him a meal. He ate the food and     10     the beer. Then he put a piece of cheese in his pocket and went away.

The three men built a small boat and set sail. All of a sudden, two dinosaurs rose to the surface and began to fight each other. The small boat was almost     1    by the dinosaurs before they were able to get away

They sailed to shore and explored the forest. They came across huge insects and many strange creatures. As they were     2     around, they noticed a man sitting    3    a tree in the distance-he was at least four meters tall. The men became afraid, and ran back to the boat.

They set sail again, and saw what looked like an exit, but it was    4    by rocks which had fallen down from the ceiling. They made a bomb to blow up the rocks. After the bomb exploded, their boat rushed     5    forward into a large hole. The boat floated down with the water. It was too fast for them to escape, They could only hold on to the boat in terror.
