​I wonder if it is because I haven’t been able to be outdoors for so long that I’ve grown so    1    about everything to do with    2    . I can well remember that there was a time    3    a deep blue sky, the song of the birds and flowers could never have kept me spellbound. That’s changed since I came here. For example, one evening, I    4    awake until half past eleven in order to have a good look at the moon. Another time five months ago, I    5    to be upstairs    6    dusk when the window was open. I didn’t go downstairs    7    the window had to be shut. The dark rainy evening, the wind, the thundering clouds held me    8    in their power; it was the first time in a year and a half that I’d seen the night face to face. It’s no pleasure    9    through these curtains    10    before the very dusty windows, because nature is one thing that really must be experienced.
