An anxious 18-year-old Peng Lanxi got his     1     (admit) letter from Hunan University of Science and Technology on July 26, bringing his dream closer—making prosthetic limbs (假肢) more advanced and     2     (access) to people like him.

Peng lost his legs in a car accident in 2005, leaving him     3     (whole) unable to move around.     4     (learn) to walk using just his hands for years, he now enjoys life as much as the teenagers around him. On his wheelchair he plays basketball and badminton. “I believe that obstacles (障碍) are there     5     (conquer). Peng is not alone. According to the China Disabled Persons’ Federation, 14,559 students facing physical challenges entered college last year. From 2016 to 2020, about 57,500 students with special needs enrolled at universities,     10     more than 50 percent increase compared with the 2011—2015 period.

It was at least two months before Christmas when nine-year-old Almie Rose told her father,     1     profession was an artist, and me that she wanted a new bicycle. With Christmas drawing nearer, her desire for a bicycle seemed to die, or we thought so. She didn’t constantly ask for one. The next day we bought some lovely dolls, and a doll house. It was Christmas Eve around 9:00 pm. Almie and her six-year-old brother, Dylan, lay comfortably in their beds. Ten years ago, Melanie and Jeremy Zanni     1     (find) the house they dreamed of: a 300-year-old cottage in a small town. They moved into their new home     2     (short) after and set up a bakery. When I was nine years old, I loved to go fishing with my dad. One day, he told me, "Next Saturday afternoon from two to five o'clock I will be fishing beside the river, which was slightly     1     (distance). Would you like to accompany me?" But the only thing that wasn't very fun about it was that he could catch many fish while I could barely catch anything, which was quite disappointing. When I grew up and entered the business world, it occurred     9     me what my first boss said, "We all need to think like sales people." But it didn't completely make sense. My dad never once said, "If you want to catch a fish, you need to think like a fisherman." What he said was, "You need to think like a fish." Bazette is a good doctor at our local hospital. One day, he got off work as usual. On     1     (he) way back, he came across a horrible scene. Two     2     (truck) stuck together. In the Life Flight ambulance, Dr. Bazette did first aid on the driver for over 20 minutes, and brought him back to life in preparation for the quick journey back to the local hospital,     6     Dr. Bazette had just finished his work earlier in the evening: In     7     next hour, Dr. Bazette assisted the team of doctors in     8     (calm) down the driver, thus saving his life.

In 2001, a young girl in Staffordshire, England, took a balloon, wrote “Please return to Laura Buxton”, along with her address, on it,     3     let it go. The balloon traveled around 1.6 kilometers and ended up on a farm in Wiltshire,     4     a farmer found it – and realized the name on the balloon was familiar     5     him. One of his neighbors had a daughter named Laura Buxton.
