On a sunny day, a shepherd (牧羊人) walked with his two     1    (hunger) sheep along a winding country path. He managed to have them both     2    (tie) to each other just in case they should get separated. It was quite a long time before they arrived at a place     3    there was merely a small amount of fresh grass on both     4     (side) of the path. Both of the sheep were so eager to eat the grass that they hurried to the grass but     5     the separate directions. Unfortunately, the rope     6    (fasten) them was not long enough. No matter how hard they     7    (struggle), neither was able to reach the grass in front of     8    (they).

The shepherd was about to help them when he was surprised to find that one of them should     9     (voluntary) abandon the struggle, and went along with the other. As     10     result, together the two sheep enjoyed the fresh grass on one side happily, and then the grass on the other.

Kobe Bryant is a famous basketball player. His talent can     1     （see） not only on the court （(球 场））,but also in his writing. His book The Wizenard Series: Training Camp came     2     in March.

The story is about the West Bottom Badgers, a youth basketball team. It's made up of five books, with each     3     （focus） on the story of one character: Rain, Twig, Cash, Peno and Lab. All of the kids on this team come from a poor neighborhood. No one     4     （have） faith（信心）in the kids to succeed,     5     things change after a new coach joins the team. .

After     6     （read） the book, we got to interview Bryant. He said he didn't think he was going to be an author, but that he often tells stories to his daughters. 3 . A toy animal might not matter much to the average person, but for a child, it could mean the world. When 10-year-old Leon Ashworth’s mom couldn’t afford     1    (buy) him a toy panda he badly wanted, he wrote a     2    (pity)note on the toy’s box begging     3    (shopper) not to buy it until his mom could. What happened next     4    (be)so heartwarming, it would melt you.

The boy, Leon Ashworth ,     5     lives in Liverpool, England with his mom, first saw his beloved ‘Panda’ at an Asda supermarket, the British equivalent of Wal-Mart. Though he was willing to wait with     6    (patient) until his mom     7    (pay) on June 15th to take the lovely panda home, the store’s staff decided to do something extremely thoughtful after they noticed Leon’s scribbled letter. They decided to buy it for him.

In search     8     the young author, whom they didn’t know at the time, they posted the note on Facebook and eventually attracted the attention of Debbie Ashworth, who     9     (immediate) recognized her son’s handwriting. The Asda crew invited the mom and her son back to the store, and had a wonderful surprise waiting for them. “This is     10    best day of my life.” Leon remarked to his mom.

4 . The other day my daughter and I ate out to celebrate her birthday at the restaurant. The kind waitress met us at the door but mentioned that without making a    1    (reserve), we would wait over an hour    2    we got our order. We stood outside    3    (wonder) what to do next when the owner came out and insisted that we stay! So we went back in. The waitress was right. We waited an hour before my daughter and I    4    (serve). But it was OK because we had tea and enjoyed some great conversations and a lot of laughs. It was a good dining experience in many ways.

When we were leaving we gave the waitress a small birthday card    5    (mean) for my daughter. She burst into    6    (tear). Then she explained that she was a high school student and had just moved here    7    overseas. She went on to say that she was having a hard time managing school and work and didn’t have many friends.

Shortly after, the cook came out to apologize for    8    delays. We told him that everything went just    9    (perfect). In fact, it couldn’t have been    10    (good) and we were so grateful for everything!

5 . I was living alone in an apartment and knew no one else living there. It was winter and we had a heavy ice storm—2 to 3     1     (inch) of solid ice covered everything. I was on my way     2     (work), when I slipped, bending my left ankle from my toes     3     the back of my calf (小腿). Of course, it     4     (break), but the funny part of this     5     (be) that my dress flew up over my head!

So there I was, sitting on the ice, my ankle broken, my dress up over my face, my body slowly freezing to     6     (dead), and in horrible pain. Just then two young men I didn’t know     7     (come) along, saw me there crying, and rushed right over to me. They were strong and tall and picked up this plus-sized lady like I was     8     feather and brought me back into my apartment.

I was going into shock by then, and they called 911 and waited with me, one holding my hand and speaking     9     (gentle) to me that they would stay     10     help came. I never even got those guys’ names, and I never saw them again, but I will never forget how kind and how strong, yet gentle-they were.
