文章大意:这是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述作者女儿在自己生日那天主动和一位老人交谈并邀请他合照,从此他们建立的亲密的友谊的故事。

1 . We stopped to choose a cake for our daughter. We’d passed several other elderly customers but our daughter Norah seemed drawn to (被吸引) a man. Her face lit up like the sun and she waved excitedly saying, “Hi, old person! It’s my birthday today!” “Hello, little lady! And how old are you today?” He asked. They chatted for a few seconds.

We said goodbye and carried on shopping. A few minutes later, Norah asked me, “Can I take a picture with the old man for my birthday?” I thought the old man couldn’t have gone very far. So we quickly found him. “Excuse me, sir? She’d like to know if you’d take a photo with her for her birthday,” I asked. He looked surprised and then happy. “A photo? With me?” He asked. “Yes! For my birthday!” Norah cheered. And so they posed together and then they hugged each other like they were long lost friends.

We thanked Mr. Dan for sparing a few minutes of his day with us. He was moved to tears and said, “No, thank you. This is the best day I’ve had in a long time. You’ve made me feel so happy and valuable, Ms. Norah.”

Now, Norah and Mr. Dan often visit each other. While they don’t, Norah makes sure to call him at least once a week. Norah worried about Mr. Dan being alone and brought Mr. Dan a dog on his 82nd birthday. Mr. Dan said that his meeting with Norah helped to heal (治愈) his broken heart as he was having a difficult time before he met Norah that day. Sometimes talking to strangers turns into the most beautiful thing in the world.

1. How did Norah know Mr. Dan?
A.By appointment.B.By meeting in a store accidentally.
C.By telephone.D.By chatting online.
2. What was Mr. Dan’s first response to the authors request?

3. Why was Mr. Dan moved to tears?
A.He found a hope to live on.B.He found a true friend.
C.He no longer felt lonely.D.He felt he was valued.
4. Which of the following can be the best title for the text?

文章大意:本文是一篇记叙文,主要讲的是作者在阿姨辛迪的蛋糕店里学习制作蛋糕的经历。

2 . My aunt Cindy has her own cake shop. She can make nice cakes for special occasions, such as weddings. I spent a week last summer helping her in the shop. Making a nice cake is harder than I thought it would be.

I practised for hours in Aunt Cindy’s shop. I made little colored dots (圆点) on a piece of wax paper (蜡纸). Unluckily, I could not get the dots to be the same shape or size.

I decided to take a break from making the dots, so I helped move cakes. However, that was not easy for me, either. I dropped a cake when trying to take it out of the freezer (冰箱) by myself. Luckily one of Aunt Cindy’s assistants was there. He saved the cake from hitting the floor.

It takes a whole team to make a huge cake. That’s one of the most important things I learned. Each person on the team has to be great at his or her job. Aunt Cindy designs the cakes on paper, Larry does the mixing and baking, and assistants carve and put frosting on the cakes. Aunt Cindy and Larry do most of the decorating while the assistants help make small parts like flowers and figures. Building a big cake is like playing a team sport. If one person doesn’t do his or her job well, the whole team pays for that.

Even though I was not much help to my aunt, I’m glad I spent the week in Aunt Cindy’s shop. Designing cakes takes more than just baking skills. It takes art and painting skills too. Now when I see a really nice cake, I don’t think of eating it first. Instead, I look at it and wonder how many hours it took to make.

1. Why did the writer take a break from putting colored dots on wax paper?
A.Because Aunt Cindy did not want her to make any more dots.
B.Because Aunt Cindy wanted her to help somewhere else.
C.Because she practised for hours and could make one perfectly.
D.Because she could not make the dots good enough for a cake.
2. Who designs the cakes on paper?
A.Aunt Cindy.B.Larry.C.Assistants.D.The writer.
3. Why was the writer glad to have spent a week in her aunt’s shop?
A.She learned how to make a nice cake.
B.She learned how to make good dots on wax paper.
C.She learned the importance of teamwork.
D.She learned art and painting skills.

The most important change in a person’s life is the change of his or her attitude. Right attitudes produce right actions. Have you ever met someone who gave you a different view of life?

On a Sunday morning, I saw something very interesting as I went to the greengrocer’s. To get there, I had to cross a bridge over railway tracks. The bridge was pretty high. A set of steep steps had to be climbed; then the bridge flattened out (变平), followed by coming down another set of steps. On my way back from the greengrocer’s, I saw an elderly gentleman running up the steps. After watching him run up the steps so fast, I thought that he could be in a rush.

Before I knew it, he had crossed the bridge, and then he ran back to where he started. To my surprise, he did not stop. He turned around, and then went up and down the bridge again. He was not struggling, and seemed to enjoy going up and down the bridge. Being a fitness fanatic (热衷于健美的人) myself, I admired his ability to Cross the bridge so quickly. My curiosity got the better of me, and I came up to him to have a chat with him.

“Excuse me, sir. Are you training for an event?” I asked.

He stopped. “No, not training for an event. Well, I am training for life,” he said with a broad smile on his face as sweat rolled down his cheeks.

I told him that I had been looking for a role model of fitness, and that I hoped to be as strong as he is when I get to his age. He said that everyone has a choice about what they do with their life. “I am not different,” he added. With much admiration, I asked, “What drives you to maintain good health?”

Then he told me the accident he met with when he was young.

Dad and Mom had got to go on a four-day business trip. They taught their elder son Daniel and younger daughter Jane how to feed and look after their dog, Spot, how to take good care of themselves—learning to cook if they could, or ordering pizza—with money left on the table—if they were busy, and told them to keep their rooms clean and tidy. They asked Daniel to be in charge.

On the very morning when the parents left, Mom kissed them and said to Daniel gently, “Young man, do take care of Spot and Jane.” Daniel promised, “I will, Mom.”

Too excited to fall asleep again, Daniel and Jane jumped out of bed, calling out each other to get up. Their pet dog, Spot, heard the similar voice and rushed in, with a ball in its mouth. Jane stuck(伸) her head into Daniel’s room,“Spot got up an hour earlier. Let’s walk it.” Daniel said excitedly, “I’m coming, but, Jane, don’t forget to keep your room clean and tidy.” “I will.”

They ran with the dog in the yard and threw the ball away for Spot to bring it back. They had fun playing with Spot the whole morning. Washing Spot was slow and tiring as it was the first time they had done it. Then Daniel settled down to his homework while Jane did her reading with interest.

The following day, Jane begged her brother to order pizza for lunch. Daniel agreed excitedly, “We haven’t tasted that for long and we behave ourselves, right?”After a while, he added, “We should save money, too.” Within half an hour, they treated themselves to a big pizza. However, in the afternoon, Spot looked sick, lying lazily and unwilling to move. Daniel was concerned about the dog and took it to the pet clinic immediately with Jane as their parents had done.
