Many of our     1     (believe) about the universe are based on inductive reasoning, also known as the scientific model. This means of arriving at the truth requires the observation of concrete events followed by the development of a theory     2     (explain) what has been observed. In other words, it is a way to proceed from the particular to the general, from the specific to the abstract. However, it is in the nature of scientists to inquire     3     every possibility, and this means they often discover things no one has ever seen or noticed before. Our generalized theories therefore never cease     4     (change).

In fact, most of our new knowledge is gained by the observation of things we never     5     (see) before. Before the first black swan was seen, the     6     (assume) was that all swans were white. This is known as the “black swan theory”. How could we have known otherwise? There will always be “unknown unknowns” such as black swans, but some criticize those who dare to suggest their existence. But when the king looked, he saw behind the waterfall a tiny bush growing in a crack in the rock. In the bush a mother bird had built her nest. The king chose     8     second picture, explained the king, “Because peace does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. Peace means to be in the midst of all those things and still be calm in     9     (you) heart. That is     10     peace really means.”

One Sept 17^th, Lang Ping, the head coach of China’s national women’s volleyball team, arrived at my high school. I could taste the excitement in the atmosphere on that quiet Saturday morning. At about 9 o'clock, all the Senior 3 students gathered in the school stadium,     1    (wait) for the arrival of Lang Ping and her team. The moment Lang     2    (step) into the stadium, we clapped     3    (excite). Lang shared her life with us in her speech. She said it was faith and courage that had led her, step by step,     4    success.

As a Senior 3 student, we are likely to come across many difficulties,     5    often makes us think we’ll never get through our hardships. When     4     comes to its serious effects, those who suffer from it may experience low spirits,     5    （angry）as well as loneliness and hopelessness．Along with these, being ignored can put people in physical pain, from headaches     6     stomachaches．Worse still, it can cause them     7    （behave） in abnormal ways．

When you are ignored, what should you do?     8    （chat） with the people directly to solve the problem．Make sure the people who ignore you know you care about them．More     9    （important）, remember that no problem can be settled by ignoring．Therefore, not letting the silent treatment happen is the best way．
