2 . Do you know the reason why we feel tired in the middle of a class? Maybe you would say it is because the teacher’s class is boring.     1     Perhaps this is something you have not paid enough attention to or not yet noticed.

Purpose of sleep

2     Sleep helps our body heal (修复), grow, and stay healthy. It also gives us energy, so we can be active all day. Doctors and health scientists say: When you close your eyes and need to rest, sleep is just the very best! This is more than advice.

Sleep time

Enough sleep is important to us. How much sleep do we need? New-born babies sleep most of the time. They can sleep 20-22 hours a day. Children need 10-12 hours of sleep a day. Teenagers need 8-10 hours of sleep a day because they need lots of energy to grow into their adult (成人的) bodies. Grown-ups usually need 6-8 hours of sleep to keep active.     3     That is why old people sleep less than young people.

Interesting facts

Almost everyone has their dreams while they sleep, but not all of them can tell their dreams clearly when they wake up.     4     More surprisingly, some may even get up in their dreams and walk around. This is called “sleepwalking”. Are you a sleepwalker? Or, is there a sleepwalker around you?

    5

It’s not just people that love to snooze (打盹). In fact, many animals have unusual or surprising sleeping habits. Some animals, such as bears and hedgehogs, sleep all through winter. The swift is a very fast bird that can sleep while it flies! Cute koalas sleep around 18 hours a day. Giraffes don’t need much sleep at all. They usually sleep standing up.

A.Sleepy animals
B.Why do we need sleep?
C.Some people talk in their dreams.
D.However, the real reason is probably that we don’t have enough sleep.
E.The older you get, the less sleep you will need.
F.Some people never dream while they sleep.
G.Clever animals

3 . For most people, life has become a burden on their shoulders, and its weight is growing heavier and heavier, until one day they can’t carry it anymore. So how can we design a life that is less complex and more meaningful? With minimalism (极简主义).     1     The following ways will assist you in your journey to living a simper yet fuller life.

2     Most people’s living space is filled with things that are never used and don’t contribute to their well-being. Separate the ones you do need from the ones you don’t, and throw the latter right into the dustin — or better, give them away to people who might actually benefit from them.

Appreciate all the amazing things you already have. We constantly compare ourselves to others who seem happier, more beautiful and more important than us. We try our best to imitate those we envy.     3     We need to stop comparing and accept ourselves for who we are, with all our imperfections. Take a moment to appreciate what you have.

Do one thing at a time. Minimalist living actually means making the most out of each and every moment. We’re usually carrying out different tasks at the same time. So whatever we are doing, our mind is partly wondering somewhere else.     4

Develop mindfulness.     5     Thus you need to develop mindfulness. Mindfulness means fully attending to what’s happening in the present. There are many ways one can do so. Perhaps the most common way is to sit for about 30 minutes somewhere comfortably with your upper back straight and pay full attention to your breath as it’s coming in and out through your nose. In this way, you won’t be distracted by your thoughts.

A.It is about enjoying life more with less.
B.Stop consuming products you don’t need.
C.Yet no matter how much we try, we always fail.
D.Get rid of things that don’t serve your happiness.
E.minimalist living requires a calm and undisturbed mind.
F.Stop multitasking and concentrate on a single thing at a time.
G.Unfortunately, our minds are filled with worries in our busy lives.

9 . How to Practice Nonviolent Communication

Nonviolent Communication(NVC) is an idealized style of communication without the use of guilt, humiliation (耻辱),shame, blame, or threats.     1     Here is how to do it well.

2     NVC uses a type of emotional intimacy (亲密)that not all people are comfortable with all the time, and they have the right to set boundaries. If someone is not open to expressing their feelings, do not push them into doing so.

Listen closely to what the other person says. Don't assume that you know how they feel or what is best for them.     3     Recognize their feelings, slow down to ensure they feel heard, and make it clear that you care. Put the focus on what they are telling you, not on what you have decided they "actually" mean.

Decide upon the solution together, if possible. When you do something together, you want it to be because you both voluntarily agree to it. You hope it is a way of fulfilling your own genuine needs and desires, not out of guilt or pressure. Sometimes you can find an action that meets both your needs.     4

Take a break if one or both parties are too stressed to handle the conversation. If you're getting too upset to speak thoughtfully and clearly, or the other person is unwilling to talk openly, stop.     5     If conversations consistently end badly with someone, take a close look at the situation, because there may be a deeper problem.

A.Instead, let them express their thoughts and feelings.
B.Encourage both sides to express their true feelings freely.
C.Make sure a person is open to nonviolent communication.
D.It is useful for resolving conflicts and connecting with others.
E.If not, just try to find a solution on your own to satisfy your needs.
F.Sometimes you just have to go your separate ways in a friendly way.
G.You can have it at a better time, when both parties are willing and able.
