2 . It is important that you have some sense of what your potential means to you. Is it achieving a certain level of income? Mastering the violin? Most people will have different definitions of potential. It is meaningful to figure out what’s most important for you.

◆ Begin by imagining that you have been given the power to make your deepest hopes and dreams for your future come true. What do you do? Who are you with? How do you feel?     1     For example, if you own your own bakery, think about where it is, how many employees you have, what people think of your business, and how you feel to be your own boss.

2     For example, if you own your own bakery, you have some management knowledge, you are good with people, you have baking skills, etc.

◆ Think about which of these strengths and skills you already have, and which you need to further develop.     3     Decide how you can develop the areas you identified. You could read some books on business, talk to other small business owners.     4

5     Take a step back and ask yourself why you are imagining a particular version of your full potential and whether it is achievable in theory. If you do not consider this, you may lose the chance to redefine your potential and miss all the joy and meaning that may come along with doing so.

A.Imagine this in as much detail as possible.
B.It is OK to change your mind as you learn more about yourself.
C.In addition, you could visit the US Small Business Administration’s website for guidance.
D.Examine the character strengths and skills that in future you have used to get to this place.
E.In order to realize your full potential, you must live according to your values.
F.For example, perhaps you are an excellent baker, but don’t know what it takes to start a small business.
G.Your job demands so much of your time that you aren’t getting the quality time with your loved ones.

7 . We’ve noticed our kids out on some extra weight during this pandemic(疫情). Here are what doctors and specialists say about what to do to get the family back on track.

    1

In the mess of the pandemic, sleep and wakeup times slid later and later for lots of kids, says Dr. Nazrat Mirza, medical director of the pediatric(小儿科) weight management clinic in Washington, D.C. Research has linked regular, adequate sleep to improved mental and physical health in kids. If sleep routines have become a problem in your family, try to move kids’ bedtimes back by 15 minutes every two or three nights.     2

Create more structure around meal times.

3     It was also the case with some trained experts. “It was sort of this buffet-style experience where they were eating throughout the day,” says Stacey Rosenfeld, a specialist in eating disorders, whose kid ended up gaining 20 pounds.     4     While putting kids on a restricted diet can lead to unintended consequences, creating and sticking to set meal and snack times can help kids control their appetites and develop sensible eating habits, experts say.

Have sympathy for yourself, and model it for your kids.

We’ve all been through an incredibly stressful and tiring year and a half, and it’s not over. And some families have been especially hard hit by this pandemic. “We have to show ourselves a little pity and it’s not going to happen with a snap of the fingers,” says Hassink.     5     Even if your kids didn’t gain weight, teach them not to tease others. Eventually, “we want to be building our kids up. We want to be focusing on who they are outside of their bodies,” says Rosenfeld.

A.Get bedtimes back on track.
B.Do the same thing with wake-up times, she says.
C.Have sympathy for your kids and your life will be easy.
D.As things calmed down, she decided it was time for a reset.
E.Bedtimes play a vital role in improving the quality of sleep.
F.That sympathy is something we should also foster in our children.
G.All-day-long, unmonitored eating became a habit in many families of the pandemic.

How TV impacts children

Dr. Heinrich Applebaum recently completed a study on the effects of television on children. In his case, though, he wasn’t concerned     1     violence , but how television gives children a false sense of reality.

Dr. Applebaum told me,“One of       2     (great) dangers of television is that it presents a world to children that doesn’t exist, and raises expectations that can never be fulfilled. ” “ I don’t understand, Doctor, ”I said. “Well, let me cite one example. Have you ever seen a television show       3       a person in an automobile doesn’t immediately find a parking2 place on the very first try?” “Come to think of it, ”I said,“I haven’t. ”

“Not only is there always a parking spot available but the driver doesn’t even have to back into it. There are two parking spaces available       4       someone in a TV show needs one . Children     5     (lead) to believe that when they grow up they will always be able to find a parking place when and where they want it.     6     you discover in real life is that you can drive around a block for three hours and still not find a place to put your car?”

“ I never thought of it but it’s true . What else do they show on television which gives a       7     (distort) picture of the real world?” “Have you noticed that whenever a character walks out of a restaurant or office building or apartment and says to the doorman,‘Get me a taxi, ’the taxi immediately arrives? Millions of children are under the impression5 that all a doorman has to do is blow his whistle and a taxi will be there. I have never seen a show where the doorman has said, ‘ I’m sorry. I can’t get you a taxi. You better take the bus. ’” “Of course , ”I said.“I never knew before what bothered me about those TV action programs, but now I do. There is always a yellow taxi waiting off screen. ” “Now, ”said Applebaum,“ have you ever said to a taxi driver,‘       8     (follow)   that car and don’t lose him’?”

“Not really. ” “Well, if you had, the driver would have told you to blow it out your ear. No taxi driver is in a mood     9     (do) because that means he ’s going to get involved.

But on TV every cabdriver looks as if he ’d like     10     better to do than to drive 90 miles an hour through a rain-swept street trying to keep up with a car full of hoods. And the worst thing is that the kids believe it. ”
