文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,主要讲述了研究表明艺术可以帮助学生更好地记忆科学课上学习的东西。

1 . Art and science may seem like opposite things. One means the creative flow of ideas, and the other means cold, hard data-some people believe. In fact, the two have much in common. Now, a study finds art can help students remember better what they have learned in the science class.

Mariale Hardiman, an education specialist at Johns Hopkins University, noticed that students who used art in the classroom listened more carefully. They might ask more questions. They might volunteer more ideas. What’s more, students seemed to remember more of what they had been taught when their science lessons had involved(涉及) art. To prove that, Hardiman teamed up with some researchers and six local schools.

In the experiment, the researchers worked with teachers in 16 fifth-grade classrooms. They provided traditional science lessons and art-focused ones. In a traditional science class, for example, students might read aloud from a book. In the art-focused one, they might sing the information instead.

The team randomly assigned(随机分配) each of the 350 students to either a traditional science classroom or an art-focused one. Students then learned science using that way for the whole unit-about three weeks. When they changed to a new topic, they also changed to the other type of class. This way, each student had both an art-focused class and a traditional one. Every unit was taught in both ways, to different groups of students. This enabled the researchers to see how students did in both types of classes.

The team found that students who started off in a traditional class performed better after they moved into an art-focused class. But those who started off in an art-focused class did well even when they went back to a traditional science class. These students appeared to use some of the art techniques(技巧) after going back to a traditional class. Classroom teachers reported that many students continued to sing the songs that they learned after finishing the unit. “The more we hear something, the more we retain it,” Hardiman says. “It suggests that the arts may help students apply creative ways of learning on their own.”

1. Why did Mariale Hardiman do the study?
A.To prove the importance of art at school.
B.To see if art might improve science learning
C.To find a way to help her students learn better.
D.To know how to encourage students to ask questions.
2. What were the students required to do in the experiment?
A.Take two types of classes.B.Learn three units in total.
C.Learn two topics for three weeks.D.Choose what they’d like to learn.
3. What does the underlined word “retain” in the last paragraph mean?
A.Finish.B.Express.C.Improve.D.Memorize.
4. What is the text mainly about?
A.Art helps students develop creativity.
B.Art-focused classes interest students a lot.
C.Art can make science easier to remember.
D.Art has something in common with science.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了为了让自己保持清醒,一些值得在课堂上尝试的建议和方法。

2 . If you stayed up or had a bad night of sleep last night, you know it’s difficult to stay awake in class today. Your teacher’s voice might begin to sound like a lullaby (摇篮曲).     1     To keep yourself awake, some tips are worth trying in class.

Sit in the front of the room. Why?     2     Besides, you’ll be more motivated to stay awake if you know that the teacher can see you easily. You’ll also be near the people who are more likely to participate, and the sound of their voices might keep you awake.

3     Ask and answer questions and pay attention to the lecture. This will help if you’re tired or discouraged by the content of the lecture, because you can ask your teacher questions to get to the bottom of the problems. Talking will also keep you engaged and alert. It might be helpful to make a goal for yourself to answer or ask at least 3 questions per class.     4     For example, you might say “I didn’t understand the last part of the proof. Could you explain it again in more detail?”

Listen actively to the lesson. Active listening is a great way to force yourself to stay awake because it requires engagement of your mind as well as your body.     5     To effectively listen to your teacher, you should try to maintain eye contact, face the speaker, pay close attention to what the speaker is saying and ask questions during a pause in the lecture.

A.Develop interest in the subject.
B.Get involved in class activities.
C.If so, classes can be boring because you’re tired,
D.Take notes and try to catch as much information as possible.
E.It’ll be easier to pay attention and participate when you’re in the front.
F.To avoid annoying your teacher you should try to keep your questions specific.
G.Practicing active listening can help you keep your eyes open for the length of the lesson.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章针对似乎永远没有足够的时间的高中生,主要介绍了合理安排时间的一些建议。

3 . For many high school students, it seems that there is never enough time. There are several steps you can take to organize your time better.

Make a to-do list every day. It makes it easy to plan any activities or meetings you may have in addition to homework. Be sure to set priorities (优先事项).    1

Use spare time wisely. Instead of wasting your spare time, read a book or do homework.    2    If a friend asks you to do something and you have homework to do, think about which is more important and see your friend later.

Decide on the time that is good for you to do certain things. If you are more of a morning person, try getting up an hour earlier and do schoolwork before school.

Review your notes every day.    3    . If you spend a few minutes at the end of every day going over what you learned, it will mean less time spent on studying when it is time for the exam.

4    Studies have shown that getting enough rest helps your memory. When     you are tired, everything seems more difficult. It is best to stay on a regular sleeping cycle as much as possible.

Tell your friends and family about your work timetable. Explain that you will be working at certain times and ask them not to disturb you.    5    you can call your friends later.

A.Set goals for yourself.
B.Get a good night’s sleep.
C.Do the most important tasks first.
D.And also, do not be afraid to say “no”.

4 . Do you want to be at the top of your class? Add these tips to your life and you should be on your way to being a top student!

1     I cannot stress (强调) enough how important it is to pay attention to what your teacher is teaching you. Take part in class discussions if you have something worthwhile to add. Pay attention during class, especially during lectures.

Take notes in class. You don’t need to write down every word your teacher says but write down what he writes on the board, or any special fact you think you might need for a test.     2     This way it will help you learn more effectively by actually thinking about what you are writing.

Don’t skip school (逃学). You will be missing out on stuff (东西).     3     However, you will have more work because you have missed lectures. Also, try not to be late for class. It’s most likely that your teacher won’t appreciate it and you will get yourself behind.

4     If you have an “I don’t care about school or this class” attitude, then teachers will be less willing to offer you extra credit (学分). The same goes for lazy attitude. Have a respectful attitude to the teacher and other students. Try not to laugh when other students make a mistake.

Always ask questions.     5     If you don’t understand, ask someone. Read your textbook and notes, and then if that fails, seek help. Ask a teacher, friend, classmate, parent, etc. Get a tutor if you need one.

A.Be prepared.
B.Write in your own words.
C.Staying organised will be helpful.
D.Keep a good attitude toward things.
E.There is no shame in needing some help.
F.It is true that you could make up the work.
G.Pay attention to everything the teacher says.

文章大意:本文是说明文。文章主要介绍了几种进入高中后,可以帮助你好好学习的技巧。

5 . After entering high school, you must wonder how to study well. Here are some good skills for you.

Go to class.

If you want to do well at school, going to class is the first step in studying well. If you miss classes, you will miss what the teacher thinks is important; as a result, you’ll miss what is the most likely to end up on the test.     1

Take good notes.

Try not to write down everything.     2     Write down unfamiliar terms. After class, review your notes as soon as possible. You can fill in details that you missed and review the material while it is still fresh on your mind.

    3

If you are struggling in class, talk to your teacher. He or she may be able to give you more help before or after class. Most teachers have little sympathy(同情) for students who just become worried about failing during the last few weeks of the grading period.

Take part in class discussions.

In order to learn more in class, it is helpful to take part in class discussions. Asking questions and having eye contact with your teachers and classmates can increase your focus during the class discussion.     4     This helps you make your point clear in class.

Form study groups.

Get students together who want to do well in class. Make sure that everyone is familiar with the material because you do not want to spend time re-teaching material to people who do not understand it.     5     Sometimes group sessions(上课时间)can become chatting sessions

A.But be careful!B.Don’t be late for your class.C.Talk to your teacher if you need help.D.You should write down all the new terms.E.So if you want to study well, go to every class.F.All you need is to put down the main points in your own words.G.In order to learn more in classit is helpful to take part in class discussions

6 . How to deal with your homework

Write it down.     1     Always be sure to write down all the homework so you won’t forget anything.

Create a homework station. Find somewhere comfortable and quiet to do your homework.     2     It will take twice as long to get the homework done. Shut off your cell phone, log off (退出) your computer (unless you need it for your homework) and close the door.

Do homework as early as possible. Don’t leave homework to the last minute.     3     The earlier you start your homework, the sooner you will finish! Do all your homework as early as you can, so you don’t have a pile of ( 一 堆 ) homework the next day.

4     Think about how long it will take you to complete homework for each subject. For example: English-ten minutes, science-ten minutes, math-forty minutes, history-twenty minutes.

Treat yourself. You can easily get tired by sitting through an hour or two of homework without stopping. Once you finish homework for a subject, take a small break (no more than 15 minutes). Either taking a walk or finding something to eat will do. But do not turn on the TV, or you’ll never go back to your study.     5

A.Use your time wisely.
B.Start as soon as you get home.
C.Start with your hardest homework.
D.Do not burn the midnight oil, either.
E.Never do your homework in front of the TV.
F.After short breaks, return to finish the rest of your homework.
G.Keep a homework notebook where you record all your homework.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文,文章介绍了一些学习方法。

8 .     1    You probably think you will never be a top student. This is not necessarily so, however. Anyone can become a better student if he or she wants to. Here is how:

Plan your time carefully. When planning your work, you should make a list of things that you have to do. After making this list, you should make a schedule of your time. First your time for eating, sleeping, dressing, etc. Then decide a good, regular time for studying.     2     A weekly schedule may not solve all your problems, but it will force you realize what is happening to your time.

Find a good place to study. Look around the house for a good study area. Keep this space, which may be a desk or simply a corner of your room, free of everything but study materials. No games, radios, or television. When you sit down to study, concentrate on the subject.

Make good use of your time in class.     3     Listening carefully in class means less work later. Taking notes will help you remember what the teacher says.

Study regularly. When you get home from school, go over your notes, review the important points that your teacher is going to discuss the next day, read that material.     4     If you do these things regularly, the material will become more meaningful, and you’ll remember it longer.

Develop a good attitude towards tests. The purpose of a test is to show what you have learned about a subject. They help you remember your new knowledge. The world won’t end if you don’t pass a test, so don’t be over worried.

5     You will probably discover many others after you have tried these.

A.There are other methods that might help you with your studying.
B.Don’t forget to set aside enough time for entertainment.
C.Take advantage of class time to listen to everything the teacher says.
D.No one can become a top student unless he or she works hard.
E.Maybe you are an average student.
F.Make full use of class time to take notes of what the teacher says in class.
G.This will help you understand the next class.

9 . The Feynman Technique(费曼学习法)is a powerful method that you can use to learn anything faster because it forces you to actively think about the problem instead of passively reading or listening to someone else talk about it. You can take the following five simple steps to study better.

·Find out the topic you want to learn.     1     Otherwise, you'll end up jumping between topics without developing a deeper understanding of any of them.

·Explain the topic as if teaching a sixth-grader. This step is the heart of the FeynmanTechnique—    2    .This requires you to meet the child at their level of understanding by using the simplest way.

.Identify areas of improvement in your explanation. You’ll need to critically(批判性地)review the explanation you cane up with in Step Two     3    . Try to find any knowledge gaps, together with any areas where you felt that you couldn't explain the topic simply.

·Improve and optimiez(优化) your explanation. Think about all the knowledge gaps and other areas of improvement you found before.     4

· Repeat the steps until you’ve achieved mastery of the topic. Keep going through each step you're fully satisfied with your explanation.    5    , and that is why going through all the prior steps just once is usually not enough to achieve topic mastery.

A.Use those to improve your explanation
B.To do so, take a critical look at your explanation
C.Make sure that your explanation is interest-based
D.Your explanations need to be short and to the point
E.The Feynman Technique works best with a repeat
