1 . For primary and middle school students, being able to cook will become a must in the near future. They will also need to learn how to plant vegetables, raise poultry and maintain home machines according to the new requirements.

The Ministry of Education (MOE) recently released (发布) a new curriculum standard for labor education (劳动教育). Starting from the coming autumn term, students in primary and middle schools will take courses on labor skills at least once a week.

According to the new standards, there are three types of labor tasks. The first refers to everyday housework, including cleaning, cooking and using and maintaining home machines. Next is productive labor, including agriculture, making traditional handcrafts, and using new technologies such as 3D printing and laser cutting. The third type is service work, including volunteer work.

The new curriculum also calls for a labor week every school year, which will be a week of after-school activities aimed at labor education.

Because of a lot of studying pressure, schools have placed more focus on the school lessons, and many schools have seen housework as a waste of time. But according to the MOE, labor education must be focused on to help students cultivate social values and develop an interest in labor.

Following the release of the curriculum standard, Internet users are heatedly discussing the changes on social media. Many welcome such labor courses and say it is necessary to teach young students basic life skills. Some are happy to learn such skills during their own school days.

2 . The summer vacation is approaching! Is there a camp you have a strong desire to take your children to during the holiday? If not, I strongly recommend the following summer camps.

You will learn many styles of painting and drawing. You should be open and willing to try new techniques. Plan to bring paintbrushes, a pad of paper, a set of pencils, and a pencil sharpener

Enjoy this fun, hands-on way into the works of William Shakespeare. You will learn about the life and times of Shakespeare and rehearse (排练) one of his plays. You will study the play in depth and take a field trip to see a live, professional production of it. You will audition (试演) for parts and learn amazing and direct acting techniques for bringing Shakespeare’s words to life.

4 . In July, I received an e-mail from Richard K. Weems, who directed the creative writing division of the New Jersey Governor’s School of the Arts. He hired me to teach poetry to a group of gifted high school students.

When I met the group, in contrast to what past teachers had done, I proposed that we run a poetry stand, which would be like a country lemonade stand, except that people would be coming for poems. Whatever customers asked for, the students would write.

The group were willing to go with my idea, though they had questions. Would we collect money at the poetry stand? No. What if there were no customers? It’s part of the risk. What if we had nothing to say on the topic they gave us? You will, and I’ll train you.

A few times a day, whenever we had a little extra time in the writing studio, I asked my students to turn to a clean sheet of paper and I gave them an assumed poetry-stand poem request. I tried to get the students into the habit of asking for specifics and authenticity.

On Thursday morning came the big day on Palmer Square. We set up the tables and chairs beside the place. The foot traffic to and fro was a sight that might have pleased Walt Whitman: people of all ages and races. People slowed tentatively (试探性地) at the sign offering free poetry. A woman wheeling a stroller became our first customer to have someone write for her kid on the subject of candy. An Asian woman asked if the poets could do haiku. A man told us that he only spoke Spanish. So we brought Ricky, a Latino kid to take his order and returned with a poem in Spanish. The man couldn’t contain his smile.

By 4:30, when it was time to leave, customers stood in line, wanting to know when we would be returning. I watched and their enthusiasm made me wonder about the place of poetry in the lives of ordinary Americans.

5 . Several activities in Tongren No.1 Middle School

“Every Class has a singing ” Chorus (合唱) Competition

To celebrate The 20th Congress of the CPC, sing patriotic theme and expand campus culture life of teachers and students, Tongren No.1 Middle School hosted the eighth “Every Class has a singing” Chorus Competition. The chorus competition was attended by 73 classes from grade one and two. After a day of fierce competition, 9 first prizes, 17 second prizes and 26 third prizes were selected. The students expressed their loyalty to the party and their great ideal pursuit with the deepest songs.

The first Hard Pen Calligraphy Competition

Tongren No.1 Middle School held the first hard pen calligraphy competition which was jointly organized by the Chinese lesson preparation group (语文备课组) and 350 students participated in it.

The first Hard Pen Calligraphy Competition was a major competition held to encourage teachers and students. This competition not only continued the fine tradition of cooperation of the Chinese group,but also expressed the respect of Chinese characters and culture.

Creative Art Exhibition

Tongren No.1 Middle School held an art exhibition,which works is the teachers and students created in the art teaching,including calligraphy,Chinese paintings and sculptures. These are made of waste glass bottles and waste newspapers,etc. This reflected our students’ unique creative design ability as well improved the students’ aesthetic (审美) and practical ability. Furthermore,it also spread the traditional Chinese culture and the concept of environmental protection.

7 . Summer Programs

The ISSOS summer school program offers high school students the opportunity to combine learning, creative enrichment and action-packed adventure in the historic campus of Yale University. Our three-week program welcomes students from over 60 nationalities, and limits the number of students from one nationality to 10% in order to guarantee a truly international experience.

Students choose from a variety of academic and elective subjects and benefit from full activities, cultural trip and workshop program. In addition, students are supervised(指导)by summer school advisors who make sure the summer school is fun and that all students make friends from around the world.

The Summer Institute for the Gifted(SIC) is a program of the AlFS Foundation, a not-for-profit organization. At Yale, SIG offers a 3-week summer academic program for gifted and academically talented students aged 13- 17. At SIC students take 4 classes from the subject areas of STEAM, arts, and recreation.

Education Unlimited is a privately held California Corporation with the mission of giving every high school student the best possible chance of gaining acceptance into the college of their choice.

The 2023 Summer Debate Camp will be held at Yale University from June 28 to July 9. Students will build public speaking, research, writing, and critical thinking skills, leading to better academic performance. The two-week program will provide students with the proper mindset, skillset, toolset and critical communication skills needed for success in many fields of speech.

9 . Archaeology camp

Each summer, the Public Archaeology Facility ’s Community Archaeology Program offers a week - long program focused on archaeology for kids entering Grades 5 and 6. The program is taught by professional archaeologists from Binghamton University. Students will learn about the science of archaeology through hands - on , interactive classroom projects , laboratory tours, outdoor activities, and a visit to a local archaeological site.

Our 2023 Research Site is the Whitney Point Bridge site. Broome County, New York. Dates : July 13-17, 2023

Time: 8:30 am -4:30 pm

Tickets: $200 per participant ( a 10% discount before May 15,2023) The session is limited to 16 students to ensure the best educational setting.

Participants will spend the first two days of the program learning about ancient cultures, archaeological concepts, and practicing fieldwork techniques, and artifact(人工制品) classification and preservation. Kids will take part in exciting activities in experimental and creative archaeology, including pottery (陶器) construction and a cross - country race.

On the third and fourth days, participants will explore local historic sites long - covered by plants. and learn how archaeologists survey sites ‘ using direct mcasurements, digital cameras, careful notes, and hand - held GPS units. This trip will also provide an opportunity to learn more about the environment in which these sites were created.

On the last day - the program will travel to a local historically significant archaecological site currently being excavated (挖掘) by the Public Archaeology Facility where students will observe professional excavations, Participants will be able to assist in some of the tasks at the site, including screening (筛查;甄别) for artifacts, note - taking, and site interpretation.

10 . Liu Xu was robbed. The 13-year-old was riding home when a man jumped out from the roadside. He pulled Liu off his bike and rode away. Liu was scared, but he didn’t run after the robber. He found a telephone and called the police at 110.

“Safety is the first in such a situation,” Liu said, remembering what his teacher had told him in his first aid class. “It’s not safe to run after an adult who is much stronger than you.”

Liu is a student in Guangdong. His school is one of the first in China to have required first aid education. Grade 1 students must take the class once a week.

Teenage safety has become a serious problem recently. According to a recent survey, about 16,000 teenagers die in accidents in China every year. An average of 40 students die every day from drowning, food poisoning(中毒)and traffic accidents.

The school said that the first aid classes are to “teach students skills so that they can keep themselves safe and save themselves from danger.”

Students at the school often learn by role-playing in first aid classes.

Zhou Min, 12, remembered her favourite lesson. “I performed as a stranger knocking at a door. A classmate stood inside the door and asked several questions before letting me in. Then we changed roles and did it again,” Zhou said. “We learned a lot while having fun at role-playing.”

The topics of the class are regularly changed. The students have learned skills for lifesaving in earthquakes.

“The teacher told us girls that we should try not to go out alone, especially at night. If someone tries to do bad things to us, we may hit their eyes or noses or kick their deadly parts. Then we should quickly run into a crowded place,” said Zhong Hua, a 13-year-old girl.
