1 . Returning to a book you’ve read many times can feel like drinks with an old friend. There’s a welcome familiarity - but also sometimes a slight suspicion that time has changed you both, and thus the relationship. But books don’t change, people do. And that’s what makes the act of rereading so rich and transformative.

The beauty of rereading lies in the idea that our bond with the work is based on our present mental register. It’s true, the older I get, the more I feel time has wings. But with reading, it’s all about the present. It’s about the now and what one contributes to the now, because reading is a give and take between author and reader. Each has to pull their own weight.

There are three books I reread annually .The first, which I take to reading every spring is Emest Hemningway’s A Moveable Feast. Published in 1964, it’s his classic memoir of 1920s Paris. The language is almost intoxicating (令人陶醉的)，an aging writer looking back on an ambitious yet simpler time. Another is Annie Dillard’s Holy the Firm, her poetic 1975 ramble (随笔) about everything and nothing. The third book is Julio Cortazar’s Save Twilight: Selected Poems, because poetry. And because Cortazar.

While I tend to buy a lot of books, these three were given to me as gifs, which might add to the meaning I attach to them. But I imagine that, while money is indeed wonderful and necessary, rereading an author’s work is the highest currency a reader can pay them. The best books are the ones that open further as time passes. But remember, it’s you that has to grow and read and reread in order to better understand your friends.

The more books your older kids have access to at home, the more likely they are just to be reading for fun, rather than having to wait for weekly trips to the library.

John Henry, one educated parent, said, "I have been homeschooling my children using the philosophy of A Thomas Jeffer son Education. This philosophy of learning is based on the reading of classic books. ” Clinton Fadiman said, "When you reread a classic, you do not see more in the book than you did before； you see more in you than before. " Classic books also make you smarter and wiser! The wisdom comes in the examples in the lives of the characters.

"It is within your power to guide your youth in their reading and to cultivate in their hearts a desire for good books. It is the most unfortunate if a person is not possessed with the desire for good reading. The reading habit, like charity, should begin at home," said Mrs Child.

3 . Do you want to give your child the best start in life？ Helping him to become a good, confident reader is one of the most valuable things you can do. These simple little things below take up your little time.     1    

● Let your kid "catch" you reading. Buy a mystery novel or a fashion magazine the

next time you're at the grocery store. Maybe you guess it．    2

up in a dictionary when you get home．

●    5    This trick works for kids of almost any age. For the youngest kids, hearing a bedtime story makes them realize that books have words, and those words tell them many things. Older children can sit next to you and read along. Kids who are reading on their own might even want to read a story to you．

    2     Why reading but not watching TV？ It is because reading has been the most educative tool used by us right from childhood.Since it develops other aspects of our life， we have to get help from reading.

Once you read a book， you run your eyes through the lines and your mind tries to explain something to you.     3       Now this seed is unknowingly used by you to develop new ideas.If it is used many times， the same seed can give you great help to relate a lot of things， which you would have never thought of in your wildest dreams！

This is nothing but creativity.     4     Within no time you can start talking with your friends in English or any other language and never run out of the right words.

5 . Why we still need to read Dickens

Walk into any bookstore, and you can hardly avoid “bumping into” Charles Dickens. Many of Dickens’ works still sell well today.    1    

As someone who teaches Dickens, the question of why we still read him is often on my mind.     2     One day nearly 10 years ago, however, when I was giving a lecture, I was telling the students that for Victorian readers, Dickens’s writing was a “tune-in-next-week” type of thing that generated crazes.     3     “But why should we still read this stuff?” the student asked. The answer I gave was only acceptable, “Because he teacher you how to think,” I said.

The question annoyed me for years, for years, and for years I told myself answers, but never with complete satisfaction. We read Dickens because he is not just a man of his own times, but also a man for our times. We read Dickens because we can learn from experiences of his characters almost as easily as we can learn from our own experiences.

    4     But these are not exactly the reason why I read Dickens. My search for an answer continued until one day a text message came from a student of mine. “We still read Dickens’s novels,” she wrote, “because they tell us why we are what we are.” Simple as it was, that’s the explanation I had sought for years.

Dickens shines a light on who we are during the best of times and worst of times.     5     If you have time, go to pick up one of his many novels, read it and enjoy what it has to tell you about yourself.
