1 . Today, video game consoles (控制器) provide hours of entertainment in homes around the world. However, early in the history of video games the best games were in arcades (游戏机厅). If it wasn't for innovators (创新者) like Nolan Bushnell and his company Atari, video games may have never moved from the video arcade into the home.    1    At that time, computing technology was very expensive and quite limited in its functionality. Still, people were more than willing to deposit a quarter into an arcade console.

Then, developers started to make video game consoles that could be used at home with televisions. The first game systems, like Magnavox Odyssey, were more limited than the systems available in video arcades.    2    Home console games of the early 1970s were often described as board games played on the television.

Hoping to improve on Magnavox's attempt, Atari developed its 2600 home video game console in the late 1970s. After creating some of the biggest video arcade hits, Atari's goal was to bring the feeling of the video arcade into the home.    3    By the early 1980s video games were being played in homes across the world. Atari had changed the entire video game industry.

Sadly, it wouldn't last. Many companies wanted to profit from the home video game trend, so the market was soon flooded with poor quality games.    4    Atari survived for a short time after the crash, but its contribution had come to an end. Japanese companies like SEGA and Nintendo entered the market by introducing new consoles in the late 1980s. These new game consoles offered something not compatible (可共存的) with arcades — longer games that took hours to beat.    5

A.The 2600 was really a huge success.
B.They also lacked creativity in their game design.
C.Simple programs were all that computers could do.
D.It looked like arcades were the future of video games.
E.This new format secured home video games' position.
F.Video games first grew in popularity in the early 1970s.
G.This led to the sales of consoles decreasing in 1983 and 1984.

3 . Go fly a kite

Learning how to fly a kite is simple and flying kites can be a fun form of exercise.

Of course, the first thing you need is a kite and a ball of string (线).     1     Then wait for a windy day.

When the perfect day arrives, find an open space, such as field.     2

Before flying your kite, find out which way the wind is blowing.     3     To begin flying your kite, stand with your back to the wind and hold the kite up so the wind can catch it. If the day is not very windy, you may need to get your kite started by running.

4     At the same time, walk backwards a few steps to keep the string tight. Now that your kite is up in the air, you can decide how long to fly it and how high you want it to go.

5     Slowly wind up (卷起) the string. Try not to pull your kite in too fast or it may crash (坠落).

Flying kite is a great way to spend a windy afternoon. If you follow these steps carefully, you will have something more fun to do than sitting inside and watching TV. So on the next windy day, get up off the sofa. Go fly a kite!

A.You can do this by throwing grass into the air.
B.Finally, you will need to bring your kite down.
C.You can buy your kite and string at a toy shop.
D.Follow the instructions to put your kite together.
E.Nothing beats seeing a kite sail high into the clouds.
F.Don’t fly your kite near trees because it can get caught.
G.Once the wind catches your kite, let out more string so it can climb higher.

9 . Memories of my sophomore (高二学生)dance     1     (be) still vivid in my mind.

It was 5 o'clock in the afternoon, and I had put on my red party dress and my host mother was doing up my hair. My schoolmate Chris     2    (show) up at the front door     3     his suit and tie. He handed me a red corsage (小花束)that     4     (perfect) matched my dress. We headed for school, and started our dance? To be honest, I am not sure     5     I should call what we did “dancing”. We jumped, yelled and laughed with people we knew or had just met for the first time. We twirled in circles, threw our arms in the air and, as my English teacher later put it, ran wild around the place. In those few     6     (hour),nothing seemed to matter     7     than having fun.

With music playing and everybody     8     (have) a good time, Chris asked me a question, "How is the dance different from dances in China?"

“Well, we don’t usually have dances in China.”

“What? How do you express     9     (you) then?”

10     (lose) in thought. I was silent for a while.

Now, I have an idea for everyone: Just dance.
