4 . Rujuta Teredesai grew up in Pune, a city in India. She saw that girls and boys in her community were not treated equally. Girls were responsible for all the household work.    1    women didn't have the same rights as men. They often suffered from mistreatment and sometimes even physical violence.

2    But she saw that organizations working to end gender discrimination usually paid attention only to the actions and attitudes of girls. "Nobody talked to young boys about equality," she said.    3    The organization, Equal Community Foundation (ECF), now reaches 40,000 people in 20 communities in Pune.

ECF matches small groups of boys, ages 14 to 17, with male mentors for a 15-week period. The mentors talk to the boys about treating girls with respect.    4    They discuss times when the boys experienced unfair treatment. Then they work with the boys to come up with ways the boys can help spread tolerance. Boys have completed projects like making maps of the safest routes for girls to walk at night.

"What we have found is that these boys don't mean to be discriminatory," Teredesai says. "They don't mean to hurt someone.    5    " When boys work to make girls' lives better, everyone in the community wins.

A.They help boys relate to girls' experiences.
B.It's part of the solution to end discrimination.
C.It's just that they don't realize they’re doing it.
D.Many families didn't send their daughters to school.
E.Unfair treatment of girls and women is a problem in India.
F.Teredesai wanted to make a difference for girls and women.
G.So she decided to create a space for boys to learn about girls' rights.

5 . Many a young person tells me he wants to be a writer. I always encourage such people, but I also explain that there's a big difference between “being a writer” and writing. In most situations these people are dreaming of wealth and fame, not the long hours alone at a computer. “You've got to want to write,” I say to them, “not want to be a writer.”                                                                                                                                    The reality is that writing is a lonely, private and poor-paying affair. For every writer kissed by fortune (运气) there are thousands more whose longing (渴望) is never rewarded. When I left a 20-year career in the U.S. Coast Guard to become a freelance writer (自由撰稿人), I had no chance of being successful at all; What I did have was a friend who found me my room in a New York apartment building. It didn't even matter that it was cold and had no bathroom. I immediately bought a used type-writer and felt like a real writer.

After a year or so, however, I still hadn't gotten a break and began to doubt myself. It was so hard to sell a story that barely(几乎不) made enough to eat. But I knew I wanted to write. I had dreamed about it for years. I wasn't going to be one of those people who die wondering (胡思乱想), what if? I would keep putting my dream to the test—even though it meant living with uncertainty and fear of failure. This is the Shadowland of hope, and anyone with dream must learn to live there.

1. The passage is meant to ________.

B.advise young people to give up their idea of becoming a professional (职业的)writer
C.show young people it's unrealistic (不现实的)for a writer to gain wealth and fame
D.encourage young people to make efforts to be a writer
2. What can be concluded(推理) from the passage?
A.Real writers often find their work interesting and rewarding.
B.A writer's success depends on luck rather than on effort.
C.Famous writers usually live in the state of being poor and lonely.
D.The chances for a writer to become successful are small.
3. “Shadowland” in the last sentence refers to ________.
A.the wonderland one often dream about
B.the bright future that one is looking forward to
C.a world that exists only in one's imagination
D.the uncertainty before one's final goal is reached

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了很多人在911袭击发生时在问上帝在哪里,而作者举了很多例子来说明,上帝创造了许多奇迹,避免更多人失去生命。人们要保持信仰,相信上帝。

7 . How many of us have heard that question, “Where was GOD when the World Trade Center (世贸中心) and the Pentagon (五角大楼) were attacked?” Well, I know where my GOD was the morning of September 11, 2001, and He was very busy!

He was trying to discourage anyone from taking these flights. Those four flights together held over 1000 passengers and there were only 266 aboard.

He was on 4 commercial flights giving frightened passengers the ability to stay calm. Not one of the family members who were called by a loved one on one of the hijacked (被劫持的) planes said that passengers were screaming in the background. On one of the flights he was giving strength to passengers to try to overtake the hijackers.

He was busy trying to create obstacles (阻碍) for employees at the World Trade Center. After all, only around 20,000 were at the towers when the first jet hit. Since the buildings held over 50,000 workers, this was a Miracle in itself. How many of the people who were employed at the World Trade Center told the media that they were late for work or they had traffic delays.

He was holding up 2-110 story buildings so that 2/3 of the workers could get out. I was so amazed that the top of the towers didn’t fall when the jets crashed. And when they did fall, GOD made them fall inward, as many more lives would have been lost.

So when anyone asks, “Where was your GOD on September 11,” you can say “everywhere”! And yes, although this is without a doubt the worst thing I have seen in my life, I see God’s miracles in every bit of it. I can’t imagine going through such a difficult time and not believing in GOD — life would be hopeless. So shines a good deed in a weary world!

10 . Most people want to be successful, but never stop to think what it will really take to get there in their chosen field. If it means going back to college for 2 years of night school, could you do it ? If it means reading a book a week for about 6             months in order to really master a new skill ? If you aren’t prepared to do any of those things because they are outside of your comfort zone, then you can forget being successful. I guarantee you will never reach your goals in life, unless your             goals are to be ordinary.
The biggest killer by far is the dreaded “ comfort zone ” where most people live in their entire life. And the funny thing is that people just can’t wrap their heads around the fact that people who have reached some success get tons of time to just             relax, but only because they’ve earned it ! If you haven’t built a successful business, or in some way built a career that allow you so much freee time, then you are stuck in the grinding world of nine-to-five jobs everyone else. So how comfortable             is that ?
So what can you do about it ? Well, find a way to make something happen in your life--- build a business around your favourite hobby, write a book and publish it, or take a course in stock trading and become an expert at that, working on making enough             money to retire. If you don’t take massive action that puts your way of your comfort zone, you will never be successful at much of anything. I promise--- and I don’t make many promises !
Finding real happiness in life can be a mystery for many. That’s why I wrote The Road to Happiness for those who want real success and happiness in life, including spirituality and all the gifts life has to offer.
Don’t wander aimlessly through life. Get focused on your goals, start helping others in need, and live life to the fullest ! Life is too short to be anything but happy.
